No comment - well, just a little
Are we really going to all gang up on the candidate's wife?
-
If Mike's the Light..
Janet is most assuredly the heat. She doesn't sound as "nice and folksy" as her husband. She sounds, frankly, a little paranoid.
I drove across the whole country in an SUV with a very large corporate brand on the side for four months. I drove in some pretty bad areas, with enough equipment inside to keep a "fence" in the green for months. never had a problem, and I was a pretty big target.
Sorry Janet, you come off as having an overdeveloped trigger finger, in my opinion.
-
Good for her
and I hope Mike's got one too!
-
Janet should be careful where she has that gun
Ms. huckabee implies htat she has traveled outside Arkansas with a concealed handgun. Her Arkansas license is valid only in Arkansas which means she is liable to arrest in other states for possession of a concealed weapon.
-
meh
I'm not a big NRA fan, and I'm mildly alarmed by people who make a whole lifestyle out of guns and gun ownership, but I don't see any problem with a woman taking a gun on a long roadtrip for her own protection.
Isn't there any middle ground left on any issues any more?
-
As such proclamations go,
Mrs. Huckabee came off as fairly articulate and to the point. She didn't talk about the Godless heathens besieging her and the righteous virgins she was road-tripping with. She didn't let slip and weird racist screeds. She made a reasonable point about following the laws (a form of gun-control no less) with regard to the posession and transport of firearms.
Even her pseudo-evasion of the Mormon question had a pinache that her batshit crazy candidate husband lacks.

Janet's Military Experience...
Sounds like Janet Huckabee has more military experience than President Bush.
I'm no gun lover, but she has a legal firearm and carries a permit; I'm not sure this is exactly damning news. On the other hand, Huckabee's populist demeanor does worry me a bit; he's a lot more extreme than he comes across in the popular press.
-
uh
So what? A woman, and of all things a woman married to a potential presidential candidate, carries a legal concealed firearm! Egad!
What's your point? My mom hates guns and just the other day she was talking about how she really, really hopes our local judges (she's the president of the local county bar association) carry concealed weapons.
Isn't this a little sensationalist?
-
P.S.
I own a 20 guage shotgun and a .22 revolver!
And I keep them hidden away in a locked closet in my basement!
I MUST BE A VIOLENCE-LOVING PSYCHO! BEWARE!
-
Alternatives to concealed weaponry
Why doesn't she take karate and street-fighting lessons at the local YWCA like other safety-concerned women?
-
Who's footing the bill..
for Janet's top-gun escapdes? My Dad was a WWII carrier bomber pilot. In the time he was in the Navy, HE was not allowed to take people on joyrides. She rode in an F-16, and jumped out of a - what -a C130(?), and got slung off a carrier in a jet??? So she's used her position( as a gov's spouse?)to acquire goodies that the rest of us may not, though we PAY FOR THEM! I'd like to hear the justification,...ANYBODY?
-
Just what this country needs.
A pistol-packing first lady who doesn't know anything about religions. I guess it could workout for us long suffering tax payers though. She won't need the secret service to protect her. Perhaps we could offer that protection to the unsuspecting citizens she'd likely drill if she felt threatened. Nonetheless, armed first ladies would only attract nastier villains. Maybe we could protect her secret service people with Blackwater nasties. Nauseating...

Everybody Run
The Candidate's Wife Has A Gun! I had to get that out. Thanks Julie Brown for the Prom Queen song!
She is a public person, she has a right to carry a firearm and protect herself. Tell your Ma, Tell your Pa, tell eveyone down in Arkansas.....
-
Zandru...
You can't be serious about your first comment. I wonder if you can remember back to the 90's....Hillary Clinton was practically vilified on the campaign trail.
Please.
-
I've got a gun too
Every liberal in this country better have one if the Fundamentalist Christian nut-jobs try to take over this country.
-
By the way
I know it's so icky to bring it up, but today is December 7th. It doesn't mean much I guess. Just another day. But every August 6th, you can bet Salon will do a story on dropping the big one on Hiroshima. Can't we have just a brief story by Salon on a day in American history when the world changed?
Is that so hard?
-
I'll clarify..
I don't really care about gun ownership.
I don't really like "carry conceal" permits, but hey, I'm not in Congress.
But what she's obviously doing is more political posturing. If her husband's a "tough guy", she's gonna be "tough" too. And it's "tough" to carry a gun around under your seat for "protection". Its why she sat there for 5 minutes talking about how much "military-ing" she did while her husband was Governor. It's more pandering to the Pearl Handled Pistol cowboys in the Republican Party whose motto for the last 6 years has been "shoot first, shoot again, shoot some more and when everyone's dead ask a question or two."
I can appreciate the work our folks in the military do without using them for photo-ops and campaign propaganda. I can appreciate the right of gun owners to own firearms without strutting around like an extra in Deadwood, ready to gun down Bill O'Reilly's "Big Bad Enemy of The Month".

You mean 9/11? Cause I thought that was the day that changed everything.

Mrs. Huckabee's "Heat"
Why is she simply not being congratulated on being sensible? When Eleanor Roosevelt packed a pistol, those who knew, thought it was courageous and smart of her not to be deterred from her considerable perambulations, just because she didn't want to be followed around by a gang of Secret Service men. As for taking Karate Lessons instead, that suggestion (if not a sick joke) is criminally irresponsible. disigny
