Quote of the Day

Mitt Romney fires his gardener.

The letters thread is now closed.

That was certainly a very short statement

He probably was in a hurry to get the guys going on his bathroom remodeling project.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 02:08 PM

Yeah

He da man!

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 02:14 PM

He can just...

...have his kids cut the lawn as part of their service to the nation. It's what every red-blooded American would do, and they're not that busy.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 02:38 PM

What jokes.

My son worked for awhile with a irrigation company. A high school friend manages a landscape business that has contracts in Washington, Frederick, and Montgomery County etc.,

Also inside the District of Columbia, to tend the exquisitely manicured homes/lawn landscapes of politicians, federal employees etc.,

The immigrant worker takes out there trash, cuts grass, prunes the bush...Yes. They work hard. They are gregarious and real pleasures to know. If/when, rather. the gop bubbles burst no-one in America who is a neocon will know how to start a chain saw, plug in a 220 outlet, or have the strength to pick up the garbage cans.

The same legal WASP irrigation employee manager friend of my son, winterized our vegetable garden (air is pumped toget out water that would winter freeze and burst valves etc.,) last weekend. He said, "When an "illegal" goes back to Mexico to try to abide by Bush's public rhetoric, and go home to do the "Legal" Entry on the up-and-up...The systems fails them."

What do they do? The 'brown espanol bilingual gets back on a Greyhound bus and crosses the border to survive...

Bush is a master sham. Shame on the entire GOPs...

Good for Him!

Romney made the right move, and I suspect that his poll numbers will see a small spike for it. Meanwhile, he will receive criticism from the Mexico First crowd, like bebop-o above. And all I have to say to him is: "Go tell it to the vast numbers of unemployed and underpaid blacks in the District of Columbia." If those landscaping companies paid a fair wage, there would be no shortage of Americans to take the work. And if Illegals were not allowed to take these jobs, the employers would have to pay that fair wage instead of simply pocketing extra profits like they do right now.

Where would the wealthy be without illegal immigrants?

Where would any of us be, for that matter, but let's talk about Romney and his fellow plutucrats:

Who works all day in filthy slaughterhouses and kills and guts the animals whom Romney dines on at fancy steakhouses?

Who spends all day breaking their backs under the hot sun to pick the potatoes and asparagus that Romney dines on as sides to his steak?

Who cleans the toilets and changes the sheets in the fancy hotels that Romney sleeps in?

Who mows the lawn and trims the hedges at the exclusive clubs Romney cuts deals in?

Who works for slave wages for the big businesses that give Romney bribes -- er, campaign contributions?

Illegal immigrants, that's who.

I do not support illegal immigration, since I believe that aspiring immigrants ought to obey our nation's laws, but the fact is that this country would collapse without the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants. Until Romney and his fellow plutocrats own up to that fact, they ought to find another issue to demagogue on.

I Hope...

...Mr. Romney struck a suitably dramatic pose while uttering these words.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 04:15 PM

Like Claude Rains' Captain Renault,

"I'm shocked, shocked to find that illegal aliens are cutting my lawn!" -- Willard Romney

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 05:41 PM

Mitt is full of ....

crap.

Romney Campaign is over

Romney has now ended his campaign. He admitted fault, something no Republican can do and expect support from their party. By firing his gardeners, he now acknowledges that he knew they were illegal immigrants. Every suspicion is now confirmed. He should have continued to obfuscate and spin around the issue. If he had, Republicans would have stood with him, as evidenced by 7 years of Bushco. When the debates continue and the question of who hates brown people more comes up, Romney is dog meat. He should save himself some of his own money and withdraw from the race.

Mitt Romney...

today's Worst Person in the World from Countdown with Keith Olbermann, for that very reason.

@ ajbuckle

You are being sarcastic, right? It's hard to tell...

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 06:35 PM

How can we say goodbye if you won't go away?

And so, I bid you [Salon]farewell. I'm going to spend my mid-morning break reading slate.com from here on out. -- ajbuckle, November 16, 2007 09:44 AM.

Didn't work out for you over at Slate, AJ?

Gary Owen

Tet. And Yep.

Guess who al'buckles you into the Ferris wheel when Gary Owen and Glenn Greenwald eat cotton candy, sitting side-by-side, on the dizzy round-in-round ride? A illegal chess and black and white domino player named, V.C. Charlie.

Who saddles you up when you and Angry Glenn ride off in the sunset together into the Kentucky's Bluegrass region to take

some pony-pony lesson? A conical hat jockey named antonymous.

A magnificent looking creature looks like what? Why There did I see what? There it was seen grazing in grass so thick...ole Gary and Glenn,

Yep...Tet. I remembered a thought. They were chewing green grass, side-by-side that ya's think was green velvet? There always is in the crowd a 'gop' jockey who is so hungry they would devour a donkey.

Call im up to thee sawed off leg Table and remind 'im to unbuckle.

If I ever meet you Owen, you gonna get tossed in either the Saigon, Potomac, or Kentucky River with a brown burlap bag tied up with a brass g.i. unhinged buckle.

They began prayer meetings at UT. Great. We need no Chaney's.

Bless us Nature-- for all these bountiful gifts which we humbly receive, and thank you for G. Owen. He is always seeming-- steaming, that he is about to eat a Water Buffaloed. O, behold, feed G.O.. But chew some other delicious green herb as food. O, what bountiful gifts, Amen. Owen. I hope while on patrol you were not the grunt who spit out a gop of Red Mule Chewing Tobacky? Ewing!

That was oil-slippery.

Disapoined, but not depressed, the fired gardeners all walked over to

Lou Dobb's house to clean the stables.

Thursday, December 6, 2007 05:30 AM

make that, Disappointed.

Sorry. I really should use spell check more often. I guess misspelled words are a step better than hypocritical behavior...

As I read these letters

I see some people decrying that the rich benefit from illegal immigration, and others saying that the poor suffer from illegal immigration. It seems that these two facts are related.
