Another example of the importance of taking responsibility
I think this guy's troubles do stem from having been abused as a child. It jsut goes to show how serious child molestation is.
This certainly does not excuse him for hurting other people though! As a former victim himself, he knows the pain rape causes and that gives him even less excuse for inflicting it on somebody else.
Oh, and taking hostages isn't cool either.
I think this is a great example of a chain of people not taking responsibility. The church and the priests did not take responsibility for their behavior, and this guy did not take on the responsibility to do something constructive to get help for his problems.
As a survivor of molestation myself, I feel that although some of my problems were caused by someone else, they are my problems now and it's my responsibility to do something about them! It's not fair, but there you have it.

Mental illness
I am no expert on mental illness but it sounds like Eisenberg is awfully representative of mainstream culture.
1.) He has sought out help from institutions we deem respectable- church, politics, & the law.
2.) He attempted to use violence to solve his problems.
3.) He attempted to rape a woman at knifepoint.- There are at least two news stories in the AP right now about women who were (more than likely sexually assaulted) and killed.
This culture is insane and until we start to reexamine the way we live, we will continue to see episodes like this one.
One more thing. I immediately thought this was a right wing terrorist. He still may be but don't expect that to come out in the news. Why is it that right wingers use violence to accomplish things, but it is forbidden for the left or anarcho-primitivists?
The fact is violence does solve problems and if this guy is morally & politically charged like those that blow up abortion clinics, assassinate progressive thinkers, then the left may want to reconsider their stance on pacifism, because it looks like the right (incl. dems & repubs) are winning.
Crazy? I think not.

The Damage They Did To All.
It is sad to think that those who concucted in such illegal, reprehensible behavior damaged the church far more than it was ever done by atheists or the adherents of other faiths.

who are you Tim Grieve? Praise Jesus
Hello Everyone
Whatever comment I might make about this sorry scene...one thing catches my eye here: reading these letters I find the name Tim Grieve, and he seems to be a person who knows what's going on in the journalistic world. Tim, are you a journalist? Then please tell the world that I, old rocker Andy Pratt, am still active and making excellent music.

I'm on lots of other web sites too, like itunes, amazon, aol, yahoo. In addition to writing and recording hundreds of songs during my long and often obscure career, I wrote a memoir (born into privilege, I found music early and grew and learned, until I came to enjoy 3-years of rock stardom with all the percs in the 70s - on the radio, big concerts, tv, lots of love and attention. Avenging Annie was the song that did it first for me. Then after 3 years I was dropped from the majors and lost everything in one day. All of this drove me to Jesus, and then began a long healing and eye-opening journey through Church and World that's still going on. My book is called Shiver in the Night, and you can find the link on www.andy-pratt.com. Buy the hardcover, it's a lot nicer than the paperback...God still does miracles and heaven awaits the believer, whatever we see feel hear know or experience...Praise Jesus forever

Strapping flares to yourself
and taking hostages so you can demand cigarettes and Pepsi is NOT normal. That is evidence of a disordered mind. You don't have to be an expert to see that.
-
Eisenberg Is a Modern Republican
Eisenberg listens to rightwing hate radio, reads Michelle Malkin, then goes into a Clinton campaign office and makes a bomb threat and takes hostages. Sounds like a Republican for our age! Not like those old fuddy-duddies like Ford, Eisenhower, Dole -- you know, rational Republicans!

melthough
Really? Distancing yourself from those afflicted by mental illness is well, normal but don't get caught up in the details. No, it is not everyday in the good ol' US of A that someone straps some road flares to themselves to get their point across.
The crux of my position is this: holding people hostage with a bomb, at gunpoint, knifepoint, (name your weapon) is a pretty regular occurrence, namely in countries that we occupy...by our soldiers.
get it now? good.

Oh-My-Gawd, they arrested Mr. Whipple!
Those BASTARDS!

Dog bites man. Let's move on.
It is not unusual for mentally ill people to be drawn to locations of power/powerful people to act out their own personal dramas. Here in D.C. we have loonies attempting to scale the White House fence on a regular basis. I'm just glad nobody was hurt.
Now let's get back to coverage of the nutjobs vying for the Republican nomination.

Mad man, mad behavior
From what I read, his relatives say that he is seriously psychotic and needs to be hospitalized. I am grateful that nobody was hurt (although many were terrorized) but the man needs to be in a secure psychiatric unit. It might also help if he were given his meds IM rather than by mouth to make sure he takes them.
I just hope that he doesn't give aid and comfort to those who say that priests don't molest people and that the charges against them are false and libelous.

What?
"Filthy faggots in skirts."
What does that have to do with anything?!?!?!?!
For an atheist who claims to know what it's like to be judged and discriminated against you sure are quick to toss around prejudicial and discriminatory epithets. What a jerk.

My questions
Why was this guy running around loose? And who is this Pratt, and why is living up to his name?
If I were I guy, I'd be ashamed of my gender.
