Fran Townsend's mash note to the president.
The letters thread is now closed.
  • This makes me throw up.

Really. And we dare to criticize North Korea for their people's embrace of the Dear Leader. Our sheep are just as bad, and I am afraid, dearly afraid, that it'll take more than one shearing before they learn.

  • High comedy

In it, Townsend notes that the playwright Maxwell Anderson wrote of George Washington, "There are some men who lift the age they inhabit, until all men walk on higher ground in their lifetime."

"Mr. President," Townsend says, "you are such a man."

    (rimshot)

Fran, please stop! You're killing us!

  • Here's the link

There is an extra character in the link... you'll need to strip that last quote character to get to the URL.

    i.e.

  • Another day, another failure departs the SS Turdblossom...

Buh-bye Fran. The country is not safer, we are sinking into the mire thanks to your man who is lifting the age.... but unlike George Washington, your man George Bush is lifting the age like a shoplifter. He should have been caught a long time ago. It's all on the security cameras.... oh... wait... you were watching the security cameras... Never mind. Thanks for nothing Fran.

  • Thank you, Anonymous.

I wonder how many of the media writers/talkers who cover her resignation are going to note how devalued her praise is through repeated and disgraceful usage.

  • Another day, another empire...

I wonder if one of Nero's departing advisers wrote a similarly ludicrous paean to THAT Fearless Leader.

  • Ouch. I think I'm going to hurl....

And thanks, anonymous, for the link.

The answer to the question "I wonder how many...." is zero, zip, nada, zilch, etc, etc, etc...

"You are such a man". Too bad the writers are still on strike. Jon Stewart would have had a field day with this one.

  • Jackals one and all..

Under NSPD-51 Francis Townsend would have had tremendous power...

We still have Michael Chertoff to worry about under that Treasonous Document under which he becomes the American Albert Speer...

I really wonder why a willing sycophant fascist like Francis Townsend would leave unless forced out by Cheney perhaps for someone with even less scruples..

    That's got to be it..!

  • More than time between Georges

Though Townsend might be fooled by the similarity of their first names, there is a bigger difference between George and George than 200 years. One was beloved for having the opportunity to seize dictatorial power but choosing not to, while the other has chosen to grab every bit of power he can.

  • Another Fool

Only a fool would write such a note to the moron. Townsend is just one of many in this most corrupt administration. Do you wonder with people like this that America and the world are going down the drain? What a shame. Impeach or vote them all out in 08

  • November_____, 2007

Why didn't Miss Townsend put a specific day on her letter?

  • "There are some men who lift the age they inhabit, until all men walk on higher ground in their lifetime."

And then there are assholes like you, George Bush, who climb atop a pile of bloody dead soldiers and proclaim yourself a savior of mankind.

  • The country IS safer

The country is safer thanks to President George W. Bush.

    BTW, Good News from Iraq:

Iraq says the worst is over in Baghdad

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-iraq20nov20,0,7051749.story?coll=la-home-world

Thank you Mr. President, from one who has been there in the service!

  • They need to get their heads out of their a&*es

Ahh, yes, Bush has certainly lifted us to a better place through: chipping away at Constitutional rights; starting a war of aggression (AND, lying about it!); ignoring international treaties protecting human rights, the environment, etc.; undermining our moral authority in the world and our standing even with allies; pushing our country further and further into debt; leading an administration unequalled in its secrecy and Machiavellism; outing a CIA operative; vetoing a bill to provide health coverage to poor/middle class children; and on and on and on....

Bush and his cronies live in a bubble and are DELUSIONAL!!!!

  • "who climb atop a pile of bloody dead soldiers and proclaim yourself a savior of mankind"

and don't forget the 100,000+ dead Iraqis.

  • Oh, geeze, you should have a Vomit Warning on this article.

I had barely read it when gag reflex kicked in big time. If there is one figure in the history of American politics who can be said to have lowered the discourse at each and every step on his tenure, it is George-fucking-Bush.

He has demeaned the office of presidency, nearly destroyed the Department of Justice with his fawning and corrupt lapdog Alberto Gonzales, struck down the Great Writ, turned our government into a den of thieves and torturers, and disgraced the Republican Party for all time.

Compared to the imbecile Bush, Richard Milhous Nixon is a paragon of virtue.

Just what kind of Kool-Aid swilling moron is this Townsend woman, anyway????

  • Ah yes indeed

Again we have the knashing of the teeth about "chipping away at Constitutional rights; starting a war of aggression (AND, lying about it!); ignoring international treaties protecting human rights, the environment, etc.; undermining our moral authority in the world and our standing even with allies; pushing our country further and further into debt; leading an administration unequalled in its secrecy and Machiavellism; outing a CIA operative; vetoing a bill to provide health coverage to poor/middle class children"

    Let's see:

The chipping away of rights seems to be a problem FDR had as well...guess he was wrong too.

Starting a war of aggression (lying etc) - I recall that all intelligence, world wide for the most part, agreed there was a problem in Iraq...guess President Bush had ALL of them in on his plan to fight a war in Iraq.

Ignoring international treaties protecting human rights, the environment - guess FDR was wrong on this one too...not to mention the UN hasn't done SPIT for human rights either...guess it's Bush's fault.

Undermining our moral authority in the world and our standing even with allies - Like they gave a damn about our moral authority before...not to mention we still have the allies that count, last time I looked.

Pushing our country further and further into debt - CONGRESS controls the purse strings...next.

Leading an administration unequalled in its secrecy and Machiavellism - Oh PLEASE...I could name lots of others that were as bad or worse...Nixon, Kennedy, Truman, FDR...for starters.

Outing a CIA operative - AFTER said CIA operative's husband outed her.

Vetoing a bill to provide health coverage to poor/middle class children - AH yes, the MANDITORY women and children angel - yet he requested a bill to INCREASE the coverage but Congress wanted to increase it FAR beyond that and to put time limits on the war as amendments...something President Bush said BEFOREHAND he would veto...yet Congress sent it ANYWAY.

So much for all of THESE arguments.
