Well, it's news to the New York Post, anyway.

  • I didn't think anyone could make me laugh about Rudy Giuliani...

    ...But you did!

  • "trumpeting his leadership in the wake of 9/11 in campaign mailings to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire."

Well he can't very well trumpet the fact that he's a crook in his mailings, can he?

  • Aroo?

Wait, Rudy Giuliani has a connection to 9/11? I thought he was just some wife-swapping, crony-coddling neo-totalitarian wannabe thug.

Next you'll tell me he wants to be president.

  • By his actions...

Giuliani showed us by his actions what "leadership" was to him on 9/11: Find the nearest TV camera, jump in front of it, repeat.

Clearly, the most dangerous place in the world to stand is between Giuliani and a television camera. Even more so than between me and the nearest coffee machine!

  • A coupla things in the story are true:

"his supporters have long boasted about his performance after the attacks." Yes, it was a performance, and yes, it wasn't until AFTER the attacks that he gave any thought whatsoever to terrorism or emergency response systems.

As for the rest of the story, well, it's in the New York Post. And we all know what the Post is worth. That and $9.11 will get you into a Rudy fundraiser.

  • I don't understand how Giuliani can run on 9/11

Standing around shouting into a bullhorn does not qualify as leadership (and would probably have been better left to the professionals who actually know what they're doing). As CWIC (chief weenie in charge), his role was to make sure that the city was in a position to respond to a disaster (natural or man made). So what actually happened in this disaster?

How did the "command center" do? Were they able to communicate with the police and fire groups that were responding to the disaster so that they could limit damage and loss of life? Were they able to open communications with State and Federal agencies to request assistance when New York's resources proved inadequate to the scope of the disaster? Well, no. There was no command center because Mr. Giuliani decided to put the command center, not in a secure location, but in a location that had already been attacked once already - the world trade center which itself was the target again.

How robust was the planning for disaster response? Did it include provisions addressing the (likely) event that some portion of the disaster response couldn't execute their part of the plan? Well, no. The executive hadn't even ensured that the police and fire departments could even talk to each other among other things.

So, overall how would I describe NYs response to this disaster? Disjointed and ineffective. What meager successes occurred to limit damage and save lives came as a result of the personal heroics of individual firemen, policemen, and the citizenry of the City of New York operating on their own initiative and in isolation.

You call that leadership? 'Cause I don't.

  • Performance

Since when is "More New Yorkers died on my watch than on any other" a campaign slogan? Well, maybe in Texas it would work out pretty well. Hey Look! Rudy got six million dollars there!

  • Behind the times?

This late *newsflash* must explain the New York Post's name:

    post = after, subsequent, behind

  • Dear Carl,

    In light of this statement

"While Giuliani's supporters have long boasted about his performance after the attacks, he himself had not, until now, mentioned it as prominently"

I have one question: ARE YOU HIGH???

Is this what passes for political reporting? Rudy 9/11 for 24/7 Giuliani has all but claimed that 9/11 made him stop doing the silly combover thing with his hair. (But there's still time left)

    This is hilarious.

  • hehehehe

hhahahahaahhaha... seriously?! he hadn't mentioned it till now?? Ace reporting, Post!! Ace!! oh man... hilarious. good times!

  • Where was Rudy when the bombs went off?

Gee gosh, it's just a theory, but wasn't Giuliani in league with the plotters? Why else would he have rented an entire floor of the North Tower as his "backup bunker" and then leave it empty, closed off, and available for the controlled demolition crews who actually were responsible for planting the Thermite that "pulverized" the building and its occupants?
