His true nature
This isn't John McCain politically hedging. It is John McCain exposing part of his true nature. He has many admirable qualities. He has many many faults. He has given more than most in service to his country, and for that he deserves our thanks. However, let us not forget that when he was shot down in Vietnam, he was not only acting on behalf of our nation, he was a tool of the military/congressional/industrial complex and his job at the time was to drop bombs on both military targets and civilian targets. He is guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, by his own admission. Being in his position, it is his moral responsibility to A. Dismantle the war complex that put him at odds with true American interests. B. Act to end the use of torture by our government and others. He has done neither. For whatever reason, he rarely stand up for what is right.
