  • The end times are here...

I have to agree with something Karl Rove said. Oh, the humanity...

  • This is the Genius of Rove...

This is how he got his reputation as the Dark Lord of Lies and Manipulation. The man is Good at what he does. Here is a piece that manages to demonize the Democratic party in the eyes of pretty much everyone aside from a weird rare breed of Ultra-Centrists Yellow Dog Dems.

He drones the same talking points he's been banging on for years about being beholden to the ultra-left wing, the MoveOn.org folks and those creepy pinko swine of the blogosphere, thus confirming all the fears of those 700 club watching, Hannity loving, Dittoheads.

In the same piece he swoops around to the ultra-left wing, the MoveOn.org folks and those creepy pinko swine of the blogosphere and reminds them of the Dem's complete inability to follow through on any of the issues which put them in power; thus making the Dems out to be no better than those 700 club watching, Hannity loving, Dittoheads.

Meanwhile, his overall tone and presentation remind those who are not severe political junkies of just how ugly and futile the entire political process has become, shoving them further away from the entire filthy debacle and leaving the work of electing our future leaders to a pack of rabid degenerates with all the rational capacity of a meth-addicted badger.

    Well played, Turdblossom.

  • Rove is Right (wing)

Of course Rove is right. He's a ruthless politico, a win-at-all-costs political operator. He understands that politics is a bloodsport. He may be on the wrong side of the aisle, but he certainly knows squandered opportunities when he sees them.

About the only Democrat who seems to get that (unfortunately) is Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) -- he swings hard at the GOP whenever he gets the chance. I don't agree with most of Emanuel's stances on issues, but there's no doubt that he's a fighter, and I wish we had more fighters among the Democrats.

I wish they'd boot all of their campaign advisors and DLC quislings from their ranks, and actually fight for working- and middle-class Americans.

The thing I worry most about in 2008, assuming the Democrats win, is they'll try to push for an accommodationist "return to normalcy." (e.g., status quo), while the GOP will continue playing hardball. That can't stand. The Dems (or a real progressive party) need to go on offense, and quit playing defense.

  • He is correct, of course

Americans were hoping the Democrats would come back into Washington and clean house. Instead, they are playing the same dark games as the Republicans, but trying to steer the newly acquired Police State powers towards themselves for their benefit.

Two competing packs of wolves, fooling the sheep.

Of course Rove is right. He is not stupid.

He is fully aware that there is NO HOPE for the people of this nation under the current regimes.

  • err...

Since when do we take seriously seeds of doubt that spawn divisions in our resolve from the enemy?

    Even if he is right?

By making this post, you've expanded his echo chamber.

  • Dems aren't the only ones...

    Karl's moment has passed too.

Of course, his editorial is filled with half truths. Yes, the Dems have squandered the good faith we placed in them. However, it has nothing to do with their being organs of Moveon. It has to do with them being like Karl Rove.

With their first small taste of the majority's power they so enjoyed in the past, they have realized not only do they not want to give it up, but they want more.

This becomes so central to their worldview that the real reasons they were elected sre subverted, leaving us in the end no better off than we were with the Republicans.

Power corrupts, and what we see with the Democrats is the end result: every single decision, every single thought, bent towards the goal of more power.

It's a perversion, and it's making me sick.

  • KR

    We need more, better Democrats.

  • Why do we pay any attention to Karl Rove at all?

    Folks,

Karl Rove is not a disinterested observer of the political scene. Should it come a surprise that Mr. Rove doesn't see much success for the Democrats? His entire job is to criticize and weaken Democrats. I say pay no attention to what this guy says. As Salon has pointed out many times, Mr. Rove has been wrong many times before, and I assume he'll be wrong about this too.

What we should be focused on is building upon the strong foundation that Democrats have built during the last two elections. I am frequently discouraged that people don't seem to understand that it will take time to clean-up the mess Bush and the Republicans have made of the nation. It has been one year since Democrats gained control of the Congress. Our expectations for the immediate change were probably mistaken. Let's not give up hope just because the change we want is not happening overnight.

  • actually, the moment passed long before 2006

It has been one year since Democrats gained control of the Congress. Our expectations for the immediate change were probably mistaken. Let's not give up hope just because the change we want is not happening overnight.

Actually, I started giving up hope about 2 months into the Bush regime, when it became clear even then the democrats weren't going to lift a pinky (except for occasional showbiz, I mean, political posturing) to stand up against these crooks. 2007 has been the capper on an already miserable excuse for a congress. Now, with a few notable exceptions (Mr. Kucinich, Mr. Waxman...) they don't even bother with the posturing.

  • oops. sorry about the bold.

I never could get the hang of those tags...

  • rove is absolutely correct

America is over. Electing Hillary is not going to change anything. She'll blather and whinge fof 4 years while the neocons regroup. Time to leave this country to the uneducated mowroons. They'll get what they deserve.

  • Karl Rove is right...

the same way that a stopped clock is right. Twice a day, for all of two seconds.

I have no use for this guy's editorials, or for Rove himself. He's an order of magnitude worse than Lee Atwater, and Atwater was despicable. If Salon wants a right winger's input on what congressional Democrats are doing wrong, at least find a somewhat reputable right winger. Huckabee's interview is already up on this site. Chuck Hagel also springs to mind. Or Olympia Snowe. Even John Warner!

Not this heinous excuse for a human being, whose alienation to speaking the truth is so great he needed five tries to get his grand jury testimony straight.
