MSM Treated It Better Than Democrats
It is hard for me to figure out what the democrats are thinking. Or for that matter the GOP. It is clear to anyone thats looked at a front page or two in the last 7 years, that there is at least something to look at in regards to Cheney.
If hanky-panky with an intern is grounds for impeachment, perhaps multiple felonies and crimes against humanity might rise to the standard of judicial inquiry.
Somewhere, sometime congress has to stop political calculations and try to do whats best for the people of the United States.

Sad
What's tragic and ironic about this story is that the conviction that compels Kucinich to pursue a path that is absolutely the right thing to do for the nation also makes him the most worthy candidate to be president. But because his actions are so "marginal," and because he's a funny-looking, quirky, guy, he doesn't have a prayer.
How far America has fallen when our decisions about our leaders are based on who "seems presidential" rather than who takes courageous, principled action to uphold the Constitution against fierce opposition and cowardice in his own party.

I'd rather see him convicted of war crimes after he leaves office
I'd rather see the Democratic majority in congress get their act together and grind the Bush administration to a halt in its final months. That would be far more usefull than a dog and pony show of an impeachment that wouldn't go anywhere...and if it did, do we really VP Rudy leading up to the election?

Isn't it INTERESTING
Isn't it interesting that the Republicans WANT to have the debate but the Democrats DON'T?! Wonder why? Probably because they think Dennis Kucinich doesn't have anything that is an impeachable offense to bring to the table...which means he (and the Democrats) will look like fools.
That's probably why the Republicans voted FOR the debate and the Democrats voted against it. Looks like the Democrats who wanted this out in the open will get what they want.
Should be interesting to see how this turns out.

Um . . .
Did the Washington Post just complain that Kucinich used actual quotes from the VP as part of his arguement for impeaching the man?
Talk about gall, citing factual examples of executive malfeance and deception in an attempt to force Congress into performing its Constitutional duty!

Cold comfort?
If you assume that when the Republicans were willing to vote not to table Kucinich's call for impeachment, there were 251 votes not to table, doesn't that mean there were over 80 solid votes to impeach the VP? That seems a big number to me. I'd love to see where the 80 plus votes to impeach come from geographically.
If things don't go well in Central Asia and the Middle East and/or the credit problems get worse and not better, sending this motion to committee may not mean it is dead at all. If I were Cheney or Bush I do not believe I would be taking a great deal of comfort from this.
I think the beltway media is misreading this. I hope they are not because I think there is marginally less risk in allowing the LSOS in the Oval Office and Cheney to finish their terms than it is to kick them out. However, if things continue to deteriorate the voters may feel differently about the balance of that equation (See poll reference from July in article). As we get closer to the election that feeling of the voters may begin to be felt by the Congress and Senate.
I see Pelosi's problem. If Bush and Cheney go she theoretically benefits. I can see why she has to publicly disavow any impeachment movement. However, she and the rest of the leadership could loss control of this.

Too bad.
Pelosi and her cronies should be impeaching them both for the crimes and resulting death related to the Iraq fiasco. Instead we have clump of weak-kneed "liberals" cow-towing to neocon driven fear and war mongering. More than ethics and morality were lost in the 2000 coup. We lost a two party political system that sometimes worked, sometimes didn't but at least drew a line between differing political philosophies. The line has not only blurred, but been erased. Erased by fear, apathy, and lies. We have become a third world country with leaders that prey on their own population to amass wealth. It's become painfully obvious that these leaders are disinterested in the "rants" of the electorate. It's also obvious that the "free liberal press' has become a willing accomplice. This dreadful and deadly combo has doomed this Republic to the world-wide status of a country with a soon to be worthless dollar, has bi-partisian support for torture and wiretapping, non-believable pitched battles with its "leader-in chief" to fund health care for poor children, infrastructure, and appointments for an Attorney General who is disinterested in a functioning Constitution and the rule of law and pretends not to know what friggin wareter boarding is. And lets not forget the openly fear-laced campaign to route-out illegal aliens from their cushy spots as maids, crop pickers and bus boys. Oh, and did I mention the un-inhibited sale and profusion of hand guns to anyone, anywhere. Mocking an impeachment is only the latest sign of this degeneration . Nauseating.

re: Cold comfort?
mcopeland,
"If you assume that when the Republicans were willing to vote not to table Kucinich's call for impeachment, there were 251 votes not to table, doesn't that mean there were over 80 solid votes to impeach the VP? That seems a big number to me. I'd love to see where the 80 plus votes to impeach come from geographically."
HARDLY. The Republicans changed their votes per directions by their leadership to have this put up for debate. Apparently the Republicans wanted Kucinich (and the Democrats) to put up or shut up...they don't think Kucinich had anything impeachable to nail the VP with.
"If things don't go well in Central Asia and the Middle East and/or the credit problems get worse and not better, sending this motion to committee may not mean it is dead at all. If I were Cheney or Bush I do not believe I would be taking a great deal of comfort from this."
Then you do not understand politics. The call for impeachment was going to die due to the Republican votes until the leadership decided to let it go so the public could see what really was being used for impeachment evidence.
"I see Pelosi's problem. If Bush and Cheney go she theoretically benefits. I can see why she has to publicly disavow any impeachment movement. However, she and the rest of the leadership could loss control of this."
Oh PLEASE. If there was sufficient evidence to warrant an impeachment, Pelosi would dive right in. At any rate, there would be insufficient time to get both the President and the Vice President on an impeachment, even if it could go thru so there would be no benefit for her.
Frankly, I think they don't have evidence of an impeachable offense to justify this...AND I think Pelosi KNOWS this.
