Conyers should

drag all this out, and not give Bush a chance to pardon these people. I wonder how many administration officals will be investigated abter Bush is gone.

Did anyone ask Mukasey about this issue?

Not that he would have answered anyway...

Conyers and his cohorts should

pronounce a decree soundly denouncing the whole sordid mess. My guess is that not one repugnant would sign it. Leave the soon to be unsigned letter on a podium somewhere in thehalls of Congress where the cockroaches can deposit eggs for future generations of cockroaches to lay their eggs before any GOP lemming would sign on to any legislation to bring truth to the surface. In many regards the whole democratic process has been "water-boarded", only instead of allowing us to eventually breath and just have psychotic flashbacks we have been finished-off. What a crock. My high school civics teacher is rolling over in his grave. He used to preach to us about the duty of America to be as the "beacon of responsibility" for moral and ethic matters world-wide. Man, would he be disappointed...

Will Pelosi Let this Go Forward?

That’s the real question. She’s already squashed any talk of impeachment. Will she let this clear attack on Bush’s supposed the “Executive Privilege” make it to the house floor or will she squash this one as well?

While she’s been willing to hit Bush at the periphery (the Armenian genocide vote and even there she backed down) she’s been loath to actually take Bush head on in foreign policy or Presidential authority in any meaningful way.

I’m worried that she’ll smack Conyers down yet again because she’s worried about being labeled as ‘soft on terror’ or some other meaningless attack by the 30% of the country that will never vote Democratic anyway. She hasn’t seemed to figure out that playing it safe is what’s driving down Congress’s approval ratings. All the poles show the public wants Congress to challenge Bush and is frustrated that always seem to back down before the fight even gets started.

Self destructive

I'm on a self-destructive bent and almost wish that nothing will happen with any of these.

Perhaps only after several years of this will the American voters be jolted back from their complacency and laziness to get their ass to the voting booths to do their job.

So let the Congress continue to be stagnant. And have the Republican minority, working with the White House and Supreme Court the block all attempts for justice. Let these voters pay for their mistake so dearly that they will never ever make the same mistake again (at least not until the next generation).

The law does not apply

to Republicans any more. Bush could eat a live baby on TV and congress would 'send him a letter'. There is no dealing with these people any more. It's either impeachment or armed revolt. You choose, congress.

U.S.Law: Its either Guilty or Not Guilty in a Public Courtroom not in a Political Backroom!

Who exactly is Conyers trying to kid with this statement of "paving the way for a vote on whether they're guilty or not"?

Isn't the American judicial process one where a criminal charge is laid for suspected wrong doing and then a judge and jury decides,by way of examining the evidence,if the defendants are innocent or guilty!

What Conyers is saying in "code" is: "we'll leave it all up to the good ol'boys who run America's 2 political parties, and let them decide what kind of horse trading they'll do with each other to have this criminal indictment against Miers and Bilten killed dead!

WHAT ?????????????

no stern letter making empty threats about a nebulous action that may or may not be taken at some unspecified date in the near or distant future ?

Tuesday, November 6, 2007 09:09 AM

I doubt it will happen

Conyers does not have sufficient votes to impeach anyone. Further, given that we are in a wartime situation, it would be extremely difficult to institute an impeachment on those principles as well.

However, that being said, he could go ahead and try for one...but I think his odds of success are dismal to say the least.
