  • The art of the draft

"that's the vast majority of the American people out there, and what they believe, and it's those men and women in uniform and their families who are the ones who bear the ultimate burden and pay the ultimate price."

The Cheney team, of course, has done everything it can to keep down the number of "men and women in uniform." The damage must be contained if it's to be viewed as heroic rather than massively senseless.

  • I guess it depends on how you define the "American people"

I mean, since people from New York, Massachusetts, San Francisco, etc. aren't "real Americans," the polling data that includes citizens from those places really distorts the actual numbers...

  • Cheney's Reality

Remember Ron Suskind and the creation of reality by the Bush administration? Cheney is simply following the pattern established in 2001.

  • What a Low Bar

Cheney can now just lie outright. He's permanently lost the support of most of the nation and no mainstream media will call him criminally mendacious, so why not go all the way? The only people he has to satisfy are people who want to believe him -- die hard team fans. So in this venue, all he has to do is say something, anything. He explained himself to his fans with an answer that creates little cognitive dissidence inside their frames, so mission accomplished.

One note to Picko - anger at Bush and the war goes through all the states (I think he has positive numbers only in Utah). So while I agree that some right-wingers in the middle of the country think anti-Bush sentiment is restricted to the non-American coasts, they are wrong. Though again, Cheney only has to fit their frame, so if for them "American" doesn't include the coasts and they have been led to believe by the radio that their neighbors are all with them, they will believe this Cheney lie too.

Just think, it would be a cold day in hell before Fox and Limbaugh point out to viewers/listeners that Bush is disliked in Montana, Idaho, Oklahoma, Texas, South Dakota, Nebraska, Alaska and Wyoming. It's always "the liberal fringe, who have an irrational hatred for Bush."

With this interview, Cheney is speaking to people who have no idea what's going on in the real world (no global warming, no imminent collapse of the dollar, no powerful corporations picking their pocket, Iraq is great, Latin Americans aren't fully human, and Bill Clinton tied children to railroad tracks back in Arkansas.

  • Clueless

Dick Cheney obviously has no concept of the meaning of the words "conservative" or "republican".

  • Cheny Chanels Nixon

Remember the "silent majority" that Nixon always talked about? Apparently Cheney thinks its back. It was a myth then, and its a myth now.

  • Memo from Dick: To: American People Subject: I don't give a shit about you.

In one sense, Dick Cheney draws his strength directly from George W. Bush, not from the American people.

Cheney's greatest strength in office is his ability to manipulate GWB because of his ignorance of foreign policy, history, and matters relating to national security.

If it weren't for Bush's monumental weaknesses, Cheney would not enjoy the strength that he has amassed.

It matters not whether Cheney is living in a bubble. He's still the boss -- and continuing to get what he wants.

  • Cheney redraws the US

To him the vast majority of the American people means the people of Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, South Carolina, Texas and Alabama. The rest don't live in the US.

  • re: the veep needs to take a nice long vacation

Maybe Darth ought to spend some more time with this "vast majority" and not just go on Fox or give speeches to sympathetic audiences. He might also want to trade his hunting buddies and military men for some folks who don't go ga-ga for guns. They could help burst his little bubble.

  • Of course

When you exclude all the phoney soldiers and phony Americans, in Cheneys head, he does have the support of the American people.

Maybe his head is made out of cement.

  • Draws Strength

When Cheney is drawing strength from people, it is in the sense of a vampire.

  • Political Cancers Need To Be Surgically Excised

Either the Congress gets off its duff and starts impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney or we condemn future generations of Americans to putting up with the same kind of crap we've been fed for the last seven years: the lying, the aggression, the favoritism, the snooping, the runaway deficit spending, the torturing, all by a president who thinks he should be the government in a "unitary executive" state. Other presidents have tried it, but none has pushed so hard for it or had such a pusillanimous Congress of moral marshmallows enabling his career of violations, perversions, and insults against humanity, our heritage as Americans, and the our Constitution.

Every member of the Congress has pledged to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States". Each can now demonstrate how seriously he takes this responsibility by the degree to which he promotes and expedites the removal of these disgraceful cretins from office.

Mr. Cheney, you can count me as a registered Republican who prays daily for your impeachment and removal from office.

  • No Surprise

One must remember that according to Cheney: Iraq is always in a state of "progress," we don't "torture," and al-Qaeda is in its "last throes." On a side note, it is simply extraordinary that we have not one, but two absolutely delusional men in the White House. What are the chances?

  • when my husband was under fire in Iraq, Cheney was doling out unbid contracts

I will never forgive Cheney for being a war profiteer at other people's expense. The arrogance and corruption of this present administration staggers me. I packed my husband's bags with the expectation that he would help find weapons of mass destruction. Instead, I discovered that this whole war was about profiteering and controlling the Middle East oil reserves. Our whole life was upended by the war: job loss, financial setbacks, relocation, etc.

Now Cheney is beating the drum for war with Iran. Unfortunately, my children will be the ones bearing all the costs as a consequence of this armchair warrior.

  • Being a smartass

As a smartass I recognize one at work. Cheney said this just to tweak the left.

  • draw strength from your self Dick Cheney

If you take your strength from others, it's just a matter of time before they take it back

  • Bubble?

I call it a massive vacuum. Cheney is the scariest VP ever in my estimation. And I sadly predict that he's going to get his war with Iran. This is really terrifying stuff! Right out of Dr. Strangelove.
