@ Unseen
Just for the record - voters actually did turn out in droves for John Kerry (59,028,111 votes). The only presidential candidate who has had a higher turnout in the general election was ... George W. Bush (62,040,610 votes).
Al Gore got more votes (51,003,926 votes) in 2000 than Clinton did in either of the times he was elected (44,909,806 votes in 1992 and 47,400,125 votes in 1996).

P-U-L-EEEE-Z
*Rolling Eyes*
So really, do y'all *REALLY* want to elect a FEMALE leader who says "THE GUYS ARE GANGING UP ON ME" everytime she gets into a bind????
I got nuthin against female leaders but EVERYTHING against ANYBODY who blames someone else for their problems (or tries to use the Gender/Race card to get themselves ahead).
And, for that matter-- do you REALLY want to elect someone who will SAY or DO ANYTHING to get elected??? What are his/her REAL political objectives? What is his/her REAL agenda??? If he/she will LIE to get elected-- you really think he/she won't lie just as quickly once in office?
C'mon. I REALLY hope nobody's falling for this bunk. Least of all "WOMEN"-- I sincerely hope that as a collective, women have a lot more common sense than that.
Vote for Hillary, I don't care-- but DONT vote for her BECAUSE she's a WOMAN or because "She NEEDS HELP because the GUYS are GANGING UP ON HER".... P-U-L-EEEEEEEE-Z.
How gullible can you be??? (Wait-- thinking back over last four years-- better not answer that!)

She was at WELLESLEY, for cripes sake!
And she talked about gender issues - why is this a suprise or a mistake? Sexism - just like racism - is alive and well in America. And politics IS an old-boys network (a white one, too). Why should she not point that out? If Obama went to Howard University and pointed out that racism plays a role in politics (see successful Republican strategy), would he be so accused of opportunism, of using his "blackness" to get ahead, of playing the race card? I have no idea why Obama is sinking to these levels. It is truly unfortunate.
But, honestly, Tim, this "boys vs. girls" thing (your words by the way, not Clinton's) is a lot of drama for nothing.

The media ...
Tim, in my view, you are attempting to create a gender issue that the Clinton campaign is not. None of the quotes, etc., indicate anything other than the gender of people referenced. The campaign says that the field ganged up on Clinton -- they did. This fact has nothing to do with gender; it relates to the fact that she is the front runner. The fact that the campaign acknowledges the ganging up, again does not have anything to do with gender per se. It is just true that the others are men and she is a woman. Politics is an old boys club. To suggest otherwise defies reality. At an all female university, the fact that Clinton states that the school served her well in preparing her to compete in a male dominated area does nothing more than state the obvious. Its not playing to gender or anything else -- its like saying that growing up in a hard working, middle class family prepared one well for addressing the needs of middle class families. I love War Room and Salon, but manufacturing gender issues where none exist seems unfortunate in the extreme.

The fact that HRC is a woman running for president is significant
To act like sex issues don't exist is not progressive. Undoubtedly, she has and will face obstacles that the men running won't. So, back off and let her acknowledge she is a woman. I think it is a plus. America could use a woman president.

Clinton Team Admits Ploy!
The Clinton team has admitted they had planned all along to use the gender argument if and when things got hot. It is great at distracting from the real issue - that Hillary had a poor debate.
Moreover, the reason she had a poor debate was that she had two positions on illegal aliens getting licenses in two minutes, she refused to say that she would even write a letter to move forward the release of her White House communications on policy matters, and her argument that she doesn't want a rush to war but she wants to do something - even if it hands the Bush administration an excuse to attack Iran. Did anyone even notice that as John Edwards criticized Hillary and said the language of the Kyl/Lieberman bill could have been drafted by neo-cons, she was nodding her head in AGREEMENT?
What was up with that? Was that a ploy too so that if they showed that clip she would seem to be in agreement with Edwards analysis? That way, she'd get the benefit of not agreeing but looking to the less informed that she does agree. It's head spinning.
Finally, although polls show that Joe Biden did very well, he's not been mentioned by most people discussing the debate but he's not considered a real candidate - like Edwards, who also got little attention. The only two people the media are interested in are Hillary and Barack because they have star power and money. Hell with whom is actually qualified to be President.
The truth is that the only person on stage who knew how to answer a difficult question on Iran was Joe Biden. He put in perspective the tiny threat Iran poses as compared to Pakistan (with hundreds or thousands of nuclear weapons) and that we must be careful how we act with Iran as it could have an impact on Pakistan's future.
That was a crucial remark and was telling of who is best prepared to lead on day one but it was never replayed on MSNBC. In fact, the debate coverage itself was immediately overwhelmed by Hillary's controversial victim speech the next day.
When are we going to learn not to be distracted and to focus on what is important? I urge everyone who hasn't done so to ACTUALLY watch the debate so they can judge for themselves who was the toughest and smartest candidate.
Not only did Biden prove he knew more than anyone else, he also had the best line of the night when he said all Rudy knows how to say is a noun, a verb and 9/11. Then, he added that Rudy is simply the most unqualified candidate for President since George Bush. Winners both!
If we want a real candidate, who knows what he is doing, and has the credibility to win, let's vote Biden and hope Obama is willing to serve as VP and gain the experience he needs to ultimately become President.
