The politics of hope

Clinton said she wanted to "chat." So why is her campaign trying to shame Edwards and Obama into silence?

The letters thread is now closed.

Politics of hope? More like hope springs eternal....

...Clinton was serious about having a "dialogue" --

She's not serious about having a dialogue--she's serious about looking like she's serious about having a dialogue--that's a couple links removed from actually having a dialogue.

Thank you.

That so much needed to be said.

I only hope Clinton and her campaign listen and take it to heart.

Thanks, Tim

For an excellent post. Now, we can only hope that Hillary's people read it.

But they probably won't. They're too busy sending out more politispam trying to smear their opponents, instead of actually doing something positive...

Amen

Every word of it.

Thank you, Tim

I was beginning to think I could be as happy with a Hillary presidency as an Obama one. She has a lot to offer that I like. But after considering the "politics of hope" stunt and its corollary elements of priming the news cycle, spinning the talking heads, etc., I have awoken from my complacent dream world. Sorry to say, she seems, in regards to the politics of cynicism, a Bush in Sheep's clothing. Damn. I though ALL of our candidates were breaths of fresh air.

So why do campaigns get to send you off-the-record e-mails?

I can understand journalists agreeing for material to be off the record when the reporter is pursuing a story and it's the only way to get the info. But why, when a campaign is sending out information unsolicited, would a reporter accept that such information is off the record? Do they have special off-the-record lists that reporters can subscribe to?

Hillary

In my opinion, there is no level too low for Hillary to sink before the election. We are just starting to see the real Hillary, who will do absolutely anything to get elected. When Bill was president, they tried to convince us it wasn't a "co-presidency". Now, she tells us she is qualified because it was. In any case, haven't we had enough of these two people, who are very smart, but very unprincipled? Politics is a dirty business, but surely we can do better than electing this woman. Let us ensure that the other Dems are not crushed by her.

Thank you

I don't know why it was this one, but your post here prompted me to write the Clinton campaign and complain. As a woman, I would love to vote for a woman. But I can't if her campaign feels like it comes right out of the Rovian playbook. We're all so tired of Orwellian politics. If she believes in her past actions and her policy views that she's stating during her campaign, she should simply defend them and stop denigrating others for challenging her with their own.

I with they all would stop with the characterizations and stick with the facts and visions. We need to find someone that will give us the facts, not the facts they wish were true, and provide us with visionary leadership. Name calling is so 5th grade. I want a president who wiser than a 5th grader.

Political animal - not human

I think Hillary hopes that she is the first woman president and the first to invade Iran and the first one to use nukes this century. She also hopes the guy in the white house doens't beat her to the punch.

With the exception of the two odd men out, the whole crew is the same worthless and shameful bunch who either got us into this mess or just went along because they had no character, ethics or morals which is evidently a requirement to be a member in good standing with either party.

There is a town in Arkansas called Hope, it isn't nearly as important as Mena.

No Silence for John Edwards Supporters

The Clintons will not be able to silence the John Edwards supporters who are happy that John is speaking out on the differences in their positions. John wants out of the war and has specifics on health care and other issues where she remains vague. I support Edwards and Obama for challenging the status quo and the Clinton DLC machine.

Tim...

You are awesome.

Just like Bush ...

When Hillary attacks the attacker she is emulating (and apparently applauding, because it works) the same kind of tactics Bush & Co. have used so successfully to thwart any criticism. Why would we think she would be a different kind of president?

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 11:58 AM

Here go the Democrats...

shooting themselves in the foot again. Will this be another Bradley/Gore fiasco, where those behind unload on the frontrunner, giving the talking heads ammunition that they will fire only when the primaries are over and it is Dem vs Rep? It's looking that way. Please understand, folks, the MSM is all about shooting the Dem down and giving the Rep every benefit, a la Gore and Kerry. The Dems need to stay positive in the primaries to prevent giving the Matthews and the Russerts more mud to sling in the general election.

Hillary's being mean!

Oh, boo hoo! Edwards and Obama have been implying that Hillary is nothing less than Bush in a dress - but now they're really gonna get tough with her - if only she'd just play fair! Oh, please. Grow up. Maybe if Edwards and Obama realized that their ultimate opponent will be a Republican and actually started to demonize the Republicans instead of fellow Democrats then they would get more people behind them. Instead, it's all reactionary.

And is Hillary supposed to just sit back and let the boys take swings at her? I don't think so.

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 12:02 PM

Hillary just lost my vote for sure

I've had it with the Karl Rove playbook. Now it seems that Hillary has picked up where Rove left off. This is intolerable. She ought to be able to face her opponents in the primary ON THE ISSUES, which is what these guys are trying to bring to the forefront, and take her chances with them.

To try to silence opposition by insulting people is just beneath contempt. I am disgusted.

Go Obama and Edwards. Give her hell!

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 12:05 PM

Does it matter?

Its silly on all sides. Democrats bashing one another is lame. I'd like to see all of them go after Bush more, go after Blackwater more, after ConiLIAR Rice more, etc. etc. etc. who cares if they have little squabbles with each other.

"If you want to show the nation what kind of president you would be, it involves winning battles against the other party, not your own." (markos)

"Trying to shame them into silence" -please, what her campaign is doing is no better or worse than what the others are doing.

Where's your story about Clinton coming out against Mukasey let's hear about something that matters.
