Yeah, right, “the two name slips were "just a mix-up."

I disagree with mizbinkley’s speculation that “he just got the citation wrong, that he really believed Barack Obama said those words.”

He knows Obama didn’t say those words.

If you read both sets of quotes, and keep the context in mind, this was just a clumsy attempt to foist more brainwashing onto an audience comprised of many who likely still believe Saddam was responsible for 9/11.

Just read the quotes:

"Actually, just look at what Osam -- Barack Obama -- said just yesterday. Barack Obama, calling on radicals, jihadists of all different types, to come together in Iraq,"

The only slip of the tongue there was Romney starting out by saying “Osam”. He quickly caught that misstep and then said Barack Obama twice, to make sure his target audience heard what he wanted them to hear.

After planting that piece, he then went on to say:

"That is the battlefield ... It's almost as if the Democratic contenders for president are living in fantasyland. Their idea for jihad is to retreat, and their idea for the economy is to also retreat. And in my view, both efforts are wrongheaded."

That is a complete non sequitur if he had correctly quoted Osama bin Laden as the one who actually called on “radicals, jihadists of all different types, to come together in Iraq.” Since when was Osama bin Laden included in the ‘Democratic contenders for president’?

He knows that some of that audience had probably heard about what bin Laden had said yesterday. So, consistent with previous Repug attempts at subliminal linkage of Obama to bin Laden, why not just “slip” Obama’s name in there? Some in this country still lack the capacity to process information, or have the need only to hear what meets their threshold of personal convenience or prejudice. That’s the target audience for the “slip of the tongue” by der Mitt.

It’s clear that these people believe no constituency should escape the reach of pandering, no matter how stupid they are.

Obama v. Osama

I know it's absurd to conflate Barak Obama with Osama bin Laden — but I also think it is no accident. Just yesterday, on a right-wing, nationally broadcast talk radio show, the host chortled about "Barak Osama Obama."

And warned he'd be right back with more.

No doubt he was.
