Slip of the Tongue

What's weird is that Romney starts by saying Osama and then "corrects" himself to say Barack Obama. Twice. It appears that the slip of the tongue was him saying Osama not Obama. It sounds like he just got the citation wrong, that he really believed Barack Obama said those words.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 10:44 AM

Just a slip...

Sure officer, and he fell on that knife, ya know, 5 or 6 times.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 10:49 AM

We all know at least one.

Habitual liars. They lie so often that eventually they can't tell if what they are saying is truthful or not. Lying and speaking truth become so interchageable that the two blurr and become unrecognizable, one from the other. It's why no one, no one should trust the likes of him, giuliani, or for that matter Hillary...

Honest Mistake (Or: Leave Mitt Romney Alone!)

Of course we all know that Mit... er... Hit Leromney just isn't that bright. I'm sure Hit Leromney honestly confused those two names. I mean, really- what would be the advantage to him of confusing the name of a potential democratic opponent with a mass murderer. Of course Hit's supporters are smart enough to make the distinction themselves, and immediately made the mental correction to what Hit really meant to say.

Mr. Slick

Romney increasingly reminds me of a slick snake-oil salesman.

I doubt that he got it wrong. He's part of the Republican effort to "stain" Obama because of his name. When all you have is name similarities to argue a political point, it's pretty pathetic. This was a movement started by Ann Coulter, another slick salesperson who just revels in calling Obama "Barack HUSSEIN Obama," as though intelligent people would actually assume that everyone in the world with "Hussein" in their name was exactly like you-know-who.

How about some real candidates talking about real issues?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 10:59 AM

Too Stupid

If he can't manage to get those two names straight, how the hell can he be qualified to be president? Oh no! I vetoed that bill? I meant to sign it! Nooooooo!

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:00 AM

"And just look at what that batshit Joseph Smith-loving flip-flopper robot... I mean, Mitt Romney..."

Yeah, slip of the tongue.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:02 AM

Confused

I've read his statement 3 or 4 times now and I'll be damned if I can figure out what he's trying to say--regardless of the name you put in the blank. He's definitely in the GWB speaking tradition.

If they want to take out Clinton and Obama, fine by me.

Chris Dodd's getting my primary vote and neither Clinton or Obama are getting my vote for President.

And think about it: what do they have on Chris Dodd? He's not a Clinton and they can't make fun of his name. He's not a war hero and he's never been in the White House. Sure, they'd make up something but they'd have to start from scratch and without a ready-made smear campaign. By the time they got up to speed, he'd be elected.

Chris Dodd would run as a pro-Constitutionalist who's actually stood up for America in the Senate and Giuliani or Romney or whoever would run as what?

So, have fun with all the pretend slips of the tongue that you want, Romney and company. If it clears the path for Chris Dodd, I'm all for it.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:13 AM

Well, obviously Romney is a Moron, er ... I mean a Mormon...

If it weren't obvious that this was an intentional mistake, I would worry about what sort of hilarious bloopers Romney will make with foreign-sounding names when he's conducting international diplomacy as president. Fortunately, he'll never be president, so I don't have anything to worry about.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:22 AM

Mitt's just not trying hard enough.

He forgot to remind the voters that Barack Obama's middle name is Hussein!

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:40 AM

Misspoken Mitt

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 03:29 PM

Come On Obama

Ask ole Mitt about his wife, er, wives. After all it is just too easy.

Read the psychological studies. The way to plant a lie is just to say it. The way for Obama to reinforce is to repeat it, then deny it.

Obama needs to change the subject an hit him back with his own slip of the tongue.

Mitt Romney is not stupid. He just plays a crazy Mormon on TV. Or is that the guy on Big Love?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 03:29 PM

Anonymous, has it come to this?

Are the Democrats so miserably cowed by Republican bullying that they will choose candidates based on whether or not Republicans can make fun of their names? Look, they'll do that no matter whom the Democrats nominate. Take a couple of very Anglo-Saxon Christian names like Hillary Clinton and John F. Kerry. "Hitlery." "John F'in Kerry." And on and on. There's no end to the infantile abuse these people can hurl, although admittedly a foreign name gives them extra ammunition with the knuckle-dragging nativist crowd. Remember some country music bimbo saying of Dukakis, "Ah cain't even say his nay-um!"?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 04:31 PM

Mitt Romney and Dick Armey have equally disingenuous slips of the tongue...

Oh, the tangled tongues they weave! Romney's and Armey's slip-ups on politicians' names are just too convenient -- they are meant to conjure up a certain image (a damaging image).

Remember when Dick Armey called Barney Franks "Barney Fag" and claimed he just got confused?

BS!
