Mukasey vs. Gonzales

An attorney general nominee actually answers a question.

The letters thread is now closed.

The bar has been set so low...

...that Mukasey could trip over it and still end up AG.

A girl can dream

I'm dreaming that he's going to tell the DEA to stop standing in the way of medical science and allow scientists acquire marijuana for medical research that is the same quality and potency as the marijuana the patients are able to get at the dispensaries that the DEA is shutting down.

I don't need him to end the whole drug war. All I want from this AG is to be the adult in the DOJ and stop this stupid corrupt DEA behavior.

It's corrupt and un-American to stand in the way of scientific research that could prove your agency's policy agenda might be wrong.

I can imagine what kinds of angry fits this behavior by the DEA would provoke in our "founding fathers," especially the one who grew Indian hemp and complained in his journal that he failed to identify and eliminate the males in time.

You know, the one who wore those painful wooden dentures back in the days before aspirin.

The one the federal government's own neighborhood is named after.

Good grief. Another " I looked into his soul" moment.

Oy. Senator Leahy, it appears, had his "I looked into his soul" moment and has decided that Mukasey is a guy to be trusted.

Does Leahy not think about the fact that Mukasey was thoroughly vetted by the White House and Mr. Darth Cheney before he was picked for the nomination?

They picked him because they are convinced he will push their agenda.

Grill 'em 'til he's done, Pat! That's your job, for cripes' sake!

And I want Karen Tandy fired

It is absolutely inappropriate for an official in the DOJ to talk even casually to political donors about using federal law enforcement to shut down a legal political movement dedicated to changing the laws enforced by the DOJ.

I know he's a conservative. I'm hoping he's the kind of conservative who can see Karen Tandy for the un-American wretch that she is.

Put someone in that job who understands the concept of boundaries as they apply to federal law enforcement and its relationship to science and democracy.

Deja vu all over again

Gonzales got confirmed mainly because everyone was so glad to be rid of Ashcroft that they weren't fussy. Now Mukasey will benefit from the same low expectations.

It's about the Election!

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign.

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign!

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign!!

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign!!!

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign!!!!

Mukasey works for the Guiliani campaign!!!!!!!

This is not rocket science people! This is Plan A: Do whatever it takes to get the creepy ex-mayor into the warmonger in chief's office! If that doesn't work then they bring out the really scary stuff.

Mark my words.
