When something disgusting won't go away, take a page from GW. Just declare it something else and pretend it worked out just as you planned.
In this case, all the Republicans have to do is declare Larry Craig a brave warrior against terror who took his fight to the front lines in the war on terror, airport bathrooms, where everyone who is aware of the dastardly lengths to which terrorists go knows terrorists lurk. They can say Craig then became the innocent victim of the Democrats' desire to lose that war and turn against our brave troops on the front lines at home and abroad.
Precisely what relevance the Senate has either way. Keep him around to do what? Get rid of him and replace him with another right wing appointee to change what? Sure his former buddies might be embarrassed but that's their problem. Because honestly, the Senate today is less useful than the House of Lords. And at least the HoL now has a noticeable population of Muslims.
What the hell is going on at Salon? You've closed the It depends on what the meaning of the word "I" is post for comments, the first time I've ever seen that happen. What, are you officially the HRC For President site now and have to suppress all dissent?
I recently sent a the Letter To The Editors outlining my discontents with Salon. As someone who has subscribed for around 5 years (hard to be sure, since your new subscription system reset my membership date), I would have thought you might care. But your silence in reply, coupled with this new act of censorship, only makes me more certain that letting my sub lapse at the end of this month is a Good Idea.
Keep up the Hillary boosting and the censorship, Salon. God knows the DNC alone isn't doing enough to alienate true liberals.
You may have noticed that all but the last two postings are now read-only. I find it hard to extropolate that to censorship since it applies to every potential poster for every 'old' topic. Had Salon decided to delete posts from some of the trolls that hang out here that would be censorship - and within Salon's rights.
He certainly has. A closeted, gay neo con who bashes his own ilk. I'm sure Idahoans are really proud and now won't need anything more to flourish as a once, and now, proud State. I also think he will really look cute dinning "out" with that other outstanding GOP stalwart, Mitchy McConnell. He's such a sweatheart don't you think? I mean with all the TLC his office gave to that nasty, lying, liberal 12 year old and all. I bet the devil can't wait to pitch fork them both...
Actually it is better to have a leg spreader who has been outed and practically sidelined, than an appointee who, coming with the blessing of a Repugnican governor, could actually be a lot more damaging than this hypocritical, exposed liar. He is now powerless and whether it is Craig or another Repug does not change the number of votes that Bushit can get in his support in the Senate.
Reader Howard K suggests below that we've engaged in pro-Clinton censorship by closing the comment thread on a post that went up Friday. In fact, Salon now automatically closes all comment threads after two days.
Furiously scribbling hasty motions for appeal. Because if Craig can take a mulligan on withdrawing a guilty plea, every convicted felon in America will cite this precedent as grounds to overturn their convictions.
I bet the people of Idaho are wishing the earth would open up and swallow their Hall of Famer once and for all.
You might want to give Friday posts four days instead of two. A lot of people might not see Friday posts until Monday and think of them as current conversations, especially if there's nothing posted on the weekend. Just a thought.
Regarding Craig, it sounds like he and Lieberman could start a third caucus of exiles from their own party. Except that Lieberman probably wouldn't want to meet with Craig for fear of tarnishing his conservative credentials.
Plus, where could they find a meeting room? Oh, hey, here's an idea....
This is long overdue. Thank you Salon editorial staff.
He's not supposed to put personal interests over those of the Party! What kind of Republican is he? The GOP today is about putting the Party's interests over those of the Country's, but not for individuals to try to one-up the Party. Who does he think he is? The GOP can't hijack this country and make it a proper banana republic if people like Craig try to be opportunistic. C'mon, people, stay on task, here.
Yeah, that's me. Not commentor Howard K, or Salon subscriber and supporter Howard K, but "reader". Barely distinguished from anonymous. Hell, you'd probably prefer me to be anonymous, since anonymous posters are sacrosanct these days.
Thanks to pgroce for updating me on Salon's policy. A shame Salon couldn't have pointed it out on their own. I guess passing on information like that would have broken the flow of Tim taking umbrage and all. Sorry if I struck a nerve over your HRC apologia, Tim. Please continue to microparse HRC's words, I'm sure she'd never think to do it herself.
Oh, and thanks again for another sterling example of how Salon continues to alienate its formerly loyal base. In case you've missed the not-at-all-subtle signs, I'm sick of not being heard, as are apparently a lot of other posters. We're sick of not being heard by our Representatives, by our media, by our justice system. Damned if I'm going to pay for the privilege of not being heard by you as well.
I have no use for the old hypocrite, but I don't blame him for going down swinging. I mean what he did is sleazy, but I don't think its as outrageous as, say, paying a prostitute to change your diaper. The Republicans don't seem very distressed by Vitter's continued presence in the Senate. If Craig wants to make them squirm, well great. I'll enjoy the spectacle.
