Radio station refuses anti-Limbaugh ads because ... they're anti-Limbaugh.

  • I hate home depot.

Can I get my radio stations to stop airing Home Depot ads because I listen to those radio stations?

Really, can we just say right now that clearchannel is an arm of the Republican Party?

  • Dittoheads

I KNEW there was a reason they're called "Dittoheads."

God forbid they might ever have their tiny brains exposed to an alternate point of view. But, they're in the same group that keeps protesters far, far away from Republican rallies and labels anyone with a mind of his/her own a terrorist.

I guess we all forgot the Star-Bellied Sneetches lesson we learned at the feet of Dr. Seuss.

  • It is not the publics airwaves, its RNCs airwaves

"...can we just say right now that clearchannel is an arm of the Republican Party?"

Yes, but we didn't have to wait this long to say so. They have a history. It is interesting to note though how clear channels arrogance has blossommed to such a degree that they feel they can do something this blatant. It seems, according to clearchannel, it is not the publics airwaves, its the RNCs airwaves.

  • Don't accuse them of being "fair and balanced"

"I KNEW there was a reason they're called "Dittoheads."

Actually, the correct term would be "Didiots".

  • It's business.

Can we just say right now that clearchannel is an arm of the Republican Party?

I don't think this incident shows they're an arm of the Republican Party. They are, just not for this particular reason.

Why would any company want to run an advertisement that's just going to piss off their core demographic? Lose the core and you lose repeat advertisers.

  • Air America Radio is syndicated and aired on some Clear Channel-owned stations. How do you square that?

In my radio market area, which is a major market city, Air America Radio is broadcast by a Clear Channel-owned station.

I listened to a caller get on the Ed Shultz afternoon show on Air America (Ed's show is produced by the Jones Radio Network) and begin to ask the VERY INCONVENIENT QUESTION: "Ed, how can you in good conscience let your show be broadcast on an obviously right wing-owned radio station, Clear Channel.

I thought old Ed was going to either explode, or shit his pants, he was so mad that this caller would have the audacity to ask him such a rude question.

He dropped the caller instantly, and then went into one of his famous rampages where the studio engineer has to pot-down his mic to keep from blowing the circuits.

"How dare you, blah blah blah... "This is radio... blah blah blah"

And he danced all around the question and then dropped it in a huff.

What he should have said is, "Listen caller. I'm here, like everyone else, to make a living. You may think that I am some crusader for your Left wing causes as you define them, but I am simply doing a radio show that caters to what our advertisers think you want to hear. I could just as easily been a right-wing radio talker, but that market is saturated and hard to squeeze another dime out of advertisers. So I'm here to fill a niche."

Clear Channel goes where the money is, folks. It's simply supply and demand.

  • Exactly

They have no obligation to run an ad that attacks one of their bread and butter shows. No one would expect NBC to run an ad that basically said "Heroes sucks, Earl's a moron and Al Roker is the devil!" It's a business decision. It's actually somewhat nice to see the corporate machine lining up to protect their employee, even if it an odious, bile-spewing hypocrite.

  • To paraphrase the sage, Forest Gump:

    "Nazi is as Nazis does..."

  • Clear Channel

Mark Mays, CEO of Clear Channel has long been a major activist in the far right of the Texas Republican Party, and a major contributor to the Southern Baptists, making him a major activist in the Christian Right. Remember how right after 9/11 Clear Channel stopped broadcasting "unpatriotic" music for a week? That was him.

And now guess who owns Clear Channel? Why, it's the company that's controlled by Mitt Romney!! America's own Silvio Berlusconi.

  • As long as our state and federal government funds, tax breaks and public universities are serving as the backbone for the NPR network, I am not going to worry about Clear Channel.

What is the conservative equivalent to "Democracy Now" on NPR? Who is the conservative counterpart to Tavis Smiley on NPR? What are the political leanings of NPR program hosts Garrison Keillor, Terry Gross and Ira Glass?

At NPR News, the Senior News Analysts are Dan Schorr, Juan Williams and Cokie Roberts. All Democrats.

To those of you who hate Rush Limbaugh and everything he stands for: How would you feel if he was receiving government funding for his network? As does NPR for its programming?

And for anyone dumb enough to try to argue that Rush is carried on Armed Forces Radio (despite Democrat efforts to have him taken off), remember that Armed Forces Radio carries TWO channels of NPR's left-wing newstalk.

  • Elephantman

Your comment seems to imply that Rush Limbaugh's show is simply a point of view, when actually he's a lying, hateful, hypocrite. By the way, our government does indeed fund lying, hateful hypocrites - just take a look who's on the White House staff.

  • Okay, I'm feeling ornery...

Most everyone is affiliated with a political party. Should anyone registered with a political party be banned from the airwaves and banned from federal funding? That basically leaves a few crazy mountain men eligible for public radio and television.

Is it NPR's fault that so many fair-minded journalists are registered Democrats?

NPR is left-wing in the same way the country as a whole is left-wing. Deal with it.

  • WE MUST NOT CONFUSE OUR LISTENERS ??????

The ones who listen to Rush are already confused otherwise why would they listen to this buffon.

The best thing the democrats can do is to ignore him and his slurred remarks. You will never change the mind's of his listeners who obviously suck in every word coming from his mouth.

Instead the democrats should keep trying to end this war in Iraq and return the civil rights to the people in this country. In the scale of things Rush is no more than a pin head in a hay stack.

  • Elephantman

There are no "equivilents" on NPR because they have MINIMUM standards of LOGICAL THOUGHT PROCESSES, and your guys just don't cut it.

That's why you people are so damned unhappy. You want to blame everyone but yourselves for the mess you've gotten us into. What we see now is the result of BANKRUPT PHILOSOPHY and BAD IDEAS poorly executed by STUPID PEOPLE.

    Plain and simple.

You've had six years of control of the administration and congress and you tried to hijack Justice.

You had six years and a terrorist attack and carte blanc to do whatever and YOU BLEW IT.
