Maybe the "wide stance" was a better argument

A sad day for Democrats

We were hoping to keep Larry Craig "stalled" in Congress until 2008. Incredibly sad.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 12:37 PM

Sad

What's sad is Larry Craig.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 12:42 PM

Craig was a lawyer right?

And if not, he did employ one in this half-hearted attempt to circumvent the legal system. I mean, honestly, the things the judge pointed out, I'm not in law school or anything, but these seem like rookie mistakes.

Justice for all......

I feel somewhat gratified. I've litigated claims such as his for years as a public defender. If poor, minority clients with limited educations can't withdraw their pleas (and they almost often cannot), then rich white senators shouldn't be treated any differently.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 12:50 PM

Senator or not

Justice prevailed. And Larry, we all know you are not gay. Its time to quit while you are still ahead by a nostril.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:00 PM

"Oh, and Senator: You can't have it both ways. "

But he's a Republican. It's in his DNA to want it both ways. I.e., being gay, yet voting against gay rights, or being against big government while drawing a paycheck from that same government.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:02 PM

"You can't have it both ways."

Uhhh....he's married and doing other stuff...yeah, he is having it both ways!

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:15 PM

The dumb-ass

should have pled "no contest" (unless no such plea exists in MN). Then he would at least have a little room to, um, tap-dance.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:17 PM

Honestly

Craig is a jerk and a hypocrite, but is all this schadenfreude really helpful? It doesn't prove anything except that some Republicans are hypocrites, but I don't think that really came as a surprise to anybody. Plenty of Democrats are hypocrites, too.

Especially ones who say that they would really like to see Congress accomplish something but then jump with glee on the downfall of one of their opponents. We just come off looking mean. It's supposed to be Rush Limbaugh's and Bill O'Reilly's job to be mean. If we're not going to be any better than those two, I can hardly expect any Republican to trust us with anything else.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:23 PM

"The dumb-ass should have plead no contest..."

Actually, he should have plead 'no competence'.

I know there are much larger problems this country has to deal with, but repeated republican hypocrisy should still be called out and made clear to the voting public when it occurs. (The same goes for democratic, or any party's hypocrisy, but the republicans seem to have a genetic predisposition towards 'Do as I say, not as I do' behavior.) Giving these people a pass while they interfere with our lives and vote themselves annual raises is not to be tolerated.

I love this judge's wording.

It is a delicious slap-down to Craig's illogical arguments. I have not the slightest sympathy for Craig. Whether they be Democrats or Republicans, I love it when hypocrites get theirs.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:28 PM

As if

A) He's useless and lame now

B) His replacement would be useless and lame AND insane

C) Congress is useless and lame

D) Ya do the Hokey Pokey and Ya turn yaself around that's what it's all a-bout

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:32 PM

One of those days

when I want to hug a judge.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:35 PM

The fact remains, he was entrapped.

And the ACLU should get on it. Why aren't these morality police out trolling for the trolls who make offensive sexual propositions to women in public? And I don't mean bars, I mean to total strangers on the street.

Nancydrew, Craig may be a rich, white Senator, but he's also apparently either gay or bisexual, which means that both the constabulary and his Republican colleagues consider him fair game. So don't get too optimistic about justice for all.

I Don't Really Care i Larry's Taste Runs to Goats ...

The Defendant was given a Miranda warning and agreed to speak with Sgt. Karsnia without having an attorney present ... The Defendant may have felt intimidated by the situation, but he also acted with a degree of confidence when, upon arriving at the POC, he identified himself as a United States Senator and said, 'What do you think about that?'"

I don't really care if Larry was cruising the stalls for a little action and hypocrisy is what I have come to expect from politicians of any party. It's the "What do you think about that?" that really gets up my nose, and I expect Sgt. Karsina's as well. Well Larry got to find out just what Sgt. Karsina and the Minneapolis PD thought about that. Too damn bad.

Thursday, October 4, 2007 01:43 PM

You're wrong, Mr. Grieve...

Oh, and Senator: You can't have it both ways.

We all know now that Larry Craig has been having it "both ways" for years!

Thursday, October 4, 2007 02:29 PM

Susan Wood.....

My comment was only in terms of the rules applied to withdrawal of guilty pleas. The "morality" lynch mob is another matter entirely. That sort of "justice" (or lack thereof) is not what I was addressing.

Without knowing the intricacies of entrapment law as the state of Minnesota defines it, I'll leave that to others.

What the hell kind of a name is

Butch Otter? Butch can't be real is it? Hey Butch, how'd you like to appoint a Democart instead of a Republican when the clown your neocon dorks elected hands in his gay bashed resignation? At very least you'd never have to worry about dealing with the hypocrisy surrounding gay bashing by a closeted gay person. How well did you "know" Larry anyway Butch?

Boy, I am really, really happy not to be living in Odaho. Butch Otter...

phooey

Throw out the misdemeanor and charge him with perjury. He says he's innocent, so therefore he lied under oath when he signed the guilty plea.
