Will the Democrats ever learn?

  • ::thunk thunk thunk::

That's the sound of me pounding my head against my desk.

  • What else is new?

Repugnicans still dominate, the Dems be damned for having no guts.

  • Time to move on MoveOn

Why should MoveOn.org continue to support Democrats that not only run and hide from them, but join Republicans in denouncing them? I hope MoveOn actively works against any Democrat that voted for that rediculous resolution. If they need to support alternative candidates or third party candidates, so be it.

I am writing ALL of my representatives and telling them if I don't see a big change in their actions and some results before the election then I'm voting third party (who or whatever that might be) across the board...and no more financial support from me until they earn it.

  • Republicans are Scum

They are the filthy detritus dredged up from them bottom of the evolutionary barrel. They have not one iota of real morality, just an endless filthy slick of snake-oil religion and rampant hypocrisy.

Well, I feel a little better now ;-)

  • I don't get it. I just don't get it.

Is it some sort of learned helplessness? Why does the Democratic leadership roll over time and time again? Why do they continue to allow Republicans to frame the debate? Why do they move further and further to the right? Yet still allow Republicans to accuse them of being beholden to the left-wing?

I wish they were beholden to the the "left-wing" at this point, because that's where most of the country is.

There are crazy right-wingers with columns in major newspapers and as commentators on "centrist" news shows. They have their own radio shows. But where are the "crazy left-wingers"???

    Democratic leadership, grow a spine.

  • Nope. They will never learn.

Screaming hate trumps calm intelligence every time. People avoid confrontation. Those who use it as violently as the GOP hate mungers win the meanspirited game everytime. Look no farther than poor Max Cleland and that sorry soul, John Kerry. Even "one of their own" McCain, was blistered by the venom slung by his good friend George Bush in that free thinking state, South Carolina. Intellegent debate will never again flouish in this faied rebublic as long as fear and hate are utilized as a platform for disabling change or for airing opposition thought.

The vehement outrage being spewed by the GOP over the Betrayous ad has nothing to do with patriotism. It's an overt and very successful attempt by the GOP to scare the Dems into a retreat from trying to illuminate truth. Nauseating but effective, eh?

  • Repugnant Republicans

Sure, but Harry Reid HAS GOT TO GO...He's a terrible Majority Leader.

  • Well, duh...

The Dems are either complicit and going along with the Rep scheme deliberately, or they are retarded. They even got on board condemning the MoveOn idiots. What they should have said was "That's free speech for you. Don't like it? Cry me a river, build a bridge on it, and get over it."

Now they have their very own personalized and acknowledged albatross and the Reps will beat on that for everything its worth. They are losing because they really want to or because they really deserve to. I can't decide.

  • Precisely

Over and over the Democrats are the abused wife in this relationship. And they never learn that no amount of fawning, pleading, cowering, or striving-to-please will stop hubby from beating them if he's in the mood.

I'm done being their enabler. Third-party time.

  • Democrats, You've Been Handed a Gift! Take it!

One of the craziest aspects of how spineless the Democrats are is how easy it is to turn these arguments to their advantage.

The country is with MoveOn regarding General Petraeus -- polling has consistently shown Americans do not trust his word and view him as a shill for the Bush Maladministration. All Democrats -- and their allies in the media -- need to do is take to the airwaves and thank the Republicans for handing them a gift -- reminding Americans over and over again about an unpopular war, a General used for political purposes by a highly unpopular administration, and the shrillness with which they attack legitimate political debate -- A DEBATE WHICH AMERICANS WANT TO SEE. Just as Republicans hammer their points home over and over again, the Democrats need to do the same -- when the country is on your side, you can't lose, and the Republican spin machine little by little will begin to lose power.

Alas, who would ever expect the Washington Generals (i.e. the Democratic Party) to do something that actually makes a modicum of sense?

  • Good. We haven't let Dick Durbin out of this conversation yet.

I guess the new position for "progressives" is that Durbin was right to apologize for his comparision of U.S. troops to Nazis and/or Soviet gulag operators and/or the Pol Pot atrocities, and so now should Rush Limbaugh likewise apologize.

    Whatever.

At least Rush Limbaugh wants our guys to win the fight. Durbin & Co. just want our guys to quit, declare victory for Democrats who opposed the fight, and start the '08 campaign.

Compared to the 'ol Cook County thug/pol Durbin, I think Limbaugh is a man of great honor.

  • I am actually shocked sometimes

That no one's put a bullet in Rush's face. You know, as a warning to the others.

  • Maybe they already have

The question -- Will the Democrats ever learn -- presupposes that the party goals are inherently different from those of the Republican Party. The differences, as far as I can tell -- and based on the voting records -- are only subtle and mostly just window-dressing.

  • Elephantman says "At least Rush Limbaugh wants our guys to win the fight"

Here's something you and Bushleague probably heard in kindergarden, but clearly didn't learn the meaning of:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
    and all the kings horses
    and all the kings men
    couldn't put humpty
    together again.

I will explain this clearly and slowly, in simple terms, since you and others of your ilk have no clue as to what it means.

The meaning: some things cannot be undone.

Learned by many a 5 year old, but not you.

You are welcome to keep pushing the egg back into the shell while you accuse others of wanting to lose, but you are the idiot that can't see reality when it stares you in the face. The egg is broken, you and your idiot friends broke it, and all the whining in the world won't make it whole, and won't hide the fact that you broke it.
