Bill O'Reilly's double standard

Democrats should appear on Fox, but the White House shouldn't waste its time elsewhere.

The letters thread is now closed.

If Salon

Is going to start reporting on O'Reilly's double standards you're going to need to hire 3 or 4 more full time writers.

He's not a grown up

He's a spoiled child who alternates between tantrums and passive aggression.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 08:22 AM

That's just great

Bill O is "fair and balanced," but he sees the Democrats as the "enemy."

Makes perfect sense.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 08:25 AM

Unfortunately O'Reilly isn't going anywhere

Bill O'Reilly is Rupert Murdoch's on-air surrogate.

That's why O'Reilly has so much power at Fox and can file that ridiculous lawsuit against Al Franken, get caught harassing female employees, threaten guests, etc. with total impunity.

There is no such animal as balanced news reporting

It no more exists on Fox than it exists here. Get over it and get your agenda from the idiot font of your choosing.

Stroking Periono's ego is no different

than stroking his own ego which is what Billy boy was illuminating. He was basically telling her why he would never appear on a talk show that would viserate his own narrow idealogical vent.

I seem to remember he one treaded onto Colbert's program and was handed his lunch. Not Billy-boy's finest hour...

O'Reilly

I wonder if Bill was amazed when Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell was on his show, and it was like any other show, even though they were black people, there was no "let me make my MF'n point", and they didn't break out into rapping, even though they're black and on tv, it was just amazing, I bet he couldn't get over it.

Tabloid network...

...with a tabloid worthy hack as it's star shouter.

Falafels and loofahs and jingoism. Oh my...

Hate Perino?

Nah. To hate someone, you have to respect them.

Why should I hate a lying, immoral enabler?

@~~~~

Well, if you're happy, then I'm happy. Let's just keep our expectations SO LOW that we are never dissappointed, and we always get what we deserve. Thanks for the pep talk.

In addition..

...to the contention that other news reporters wouldn't give the President a fair shake in an interview, those reporters would also pose questions to the President that didn't ask about his feelings, whether he is getting enough credit, or where the true fault in Iraq and other policy mismanagement lies. Just a sampling of the hard-hitting questions given to Bush by those at Fox News:

"How do you feel?"

"You have got a great economy. You're trying to protect the American people, try to prevent another 9/11. You have succeeded at that in the five-plus years since. You're not getting a lot of thanks for that. Do you ever think about: I can't wait until, I don't know, mid-afternoon, January 20, 2009?"

"You know, your vice president was saying that Laura Bush (search) would be an excellent presidential candidate. Do you think she would?

"Do you think that the focus on Michael Jackson has hurt you?"

O'Reilly is right. Any other news organization would destroy Bush no matter what his reponse to the Micael Jackson question was.

A fair shake?

The news media isn't supposed to give the president a fair shake, at least not in the sense Billy is suggesting. The news media is supposed to hold the presidents feet to the fire, and make him explain himself and his policies.

It's sad that Fox is so obviously an extension of the republican spin machine that they actually make the other news outlets look good by comparison, but really, even CNN and MSNBC are Fox lite, if they had done their job, maybe Americans wouldn't be getting killed everyday trying to referee a civil war right now.

No, Bill...

You don't understand.

It's you we hate.

I've been predicting for awhile an imminent "Morton Downey Jr." moment for O'Reilly. This may be it.

Let's hope, anyway.

Shrewd, manipulative O'Reilly

This morning on WNYC Brian Lehrer's show Tavis Smiley, in response to a question about O'Reilly's comments about his dinner with Sharpton in Harlem, said (I'm paraphrasing) that he believed O'Reilly was one of the shrewdest, smartest, most manipulative talk show personalities. Smiley believes that O'Reilly hadn't been in the news of late, and so he created his black commentary to stir up charges of racism from a readily responsive left wing in order to play to his (O'Reilly's) base audience (pun accidental, but nonetheless apt). Smiley said he was not going to play O'Reilly's game and add to the publicity he's already received on that subject. It seems his conversation with Dana Perino--his blatant double standard--fits the same mold. Maybe we should ignore him. And Coulter, and Limbaugh, who all seem to get more outrageous when their ratings or media attention dip.

Convenient explanation...

I'm sure Bill would be able to pull out a completely rational and plausible explanation as to why he's not a hypocrite about this Perino/Edwards discrepancy. He's so much smarter than us and views the world with a clarity the rest of us lack.

Mr. Grieve, please let us know as soon as Bill explains himself. I'm never comfortable when Bill appears to be misinformed, hypocritical or just plain idiotic. I'm often uncomfortable.

good god...

Jena doesn't serve because she's a rick, spoiled, brat. And if she was slated to go to Iraq, Bush would end the war in five minutes.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 01:08 PM

Will Chelsea serve?

The sissy Tim Grieve suggests that the Bush twins join the military, but I don't recall him demanding that Chelsea serve in Kosovo. Hillary Clinton stated last night that she cannot guarantee that our troops will be out of Iraq by 2013. If Hillary is elected president, with the sissy Tim Grieve demanded that Chelsea enlist the next day?

I won't hold my breath. We all know Tim Grieve is a moonbat hypocrite.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 01:54 PM

Tim Grieve

Congratulations, a staunch rightwinger claiming to be named Groenhagen just promoted you to Sissy. Keep up with your good work, it must be right if those types start to call you names.

Thursday, September 27, 2007 02:56 PM

Why Do I Bother?

...I don't recall him demanding that Chelsea serve in Kosovo.

She wasn't old enough.

Hillary Clinton stated last night that she cannot guarantee that our troops will be out of Iraq by 2013. If Hillary is elected president, with the sissy Tim Grieve demanded that Chelsea enlist the next day?

Quite possibly. Salon is not going to suddenly turn pro-war, pro-hypocrite just because a relatively hawkish Democrat is elected.
