  • BLOCK HIM

BLOCK HIM, BLOCK HIM, BLOCK HIM

Its time to draw the line in the sand where this handfull of extemists are concerned. This country has been hijacked my a toxic minority of fanatics.

  • Extortion

They probably showed Mukasey some of the dirt they have on him that is kept in Dick Cheney man-sized safe...

  • Questions for Confirmation Hearing

The questions that Mukasey answered privately for the GOP should be placed front and center during his confirmation hearings and debated extensively. I would imagine his answers will provide additional questions and issues.

  • Wow, some platform...

    A) Pro-Concentration Camps

    B) Pro-Torture

    C) Pro-Corruption

I'm trying to figure out how these issues, in any way, relate to "Conservatism".

My guess is these issues are also very important to christian conservatives. I wonder what form of torture Jesus would prefer?

  • Mukasey's a Conservative.

Mukasey's a Conservative. Big whoop. Who did you expect Bush to nominate--Janet Reno?

I don't see anything wrong with a Liberal president picking people with a Liberal bent or Conservative presidents picking someone with a Conservative bent.

What matters is if someone interprets straight down the party line and allows political affiliation to trump measured judgement.

What matters is competence and choosing people that are the best and brightest in their field.

What matters is choosing people who serve the country and the Constitution first, not a particular president or party.

Bush has a defined track record of not picking people who have what it takes where it matters. So Mukasey deserves heavy scrutiny. And I agree with bdop4 that Mukasey's private GOP meeting is fair game for the confirmation hearings. But I don't think Mukasey should be dismissed out of hand for being a Conservative.

  • Torture

I wonder what form of torture Jesus would prefer?

Fighting the urge to make an inappropriate crucifixation comment. Fight it, fight it...

  • Perfect. A Gonzales clone.

If the dems appoint this arse they derseve ALL of what they get. I'm just wondering why WE are the ones who are going to suffer the consequences, not the clueless Senators. Nauseating...

  • The Steel Camel

...and would be reluctant to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration.

You got to be kidding me, thats the basis for selecting the chief law enforcement officer of the land? That is by getting from him, up front, who he will or won't investigate or prosecute?

How can this yet new corruption not be the proverbial straw that breaks the camels back? This camel must be made of steel.

  • Lest we forget . . .

Mukasey is also a former(?) advisor to the Giuliani Campaign. The entire Attorney General/DOJ scandal (though dropped since Gonzalez's resignation) was about the DOJ firing people who were not partisan enough to apply sufficient undue influence on elections!

This combination of factors make this an utterly grotesque middle finger to the American People and the Democratic Process.

  • No,

Mukasey should not be dismissed out of hand for being a Conservative. He should be dismissed out of hand if he is in favor of torture. He should be dismissed out of hand of he is in favor of keeping Guantanamo open. He should be dismissed out of hand for abusing the material witness law.

  • Even as we post

Pat Leahy is composing a very stern letter...
