They do support the troops.
Now excuse me while I go bang my head against a wall for an hour or two.
a little.
I now fully agree with other posters here who have claimed that Democrats aren't just weak -- they are part of the enemy's strategy. Because they exist, giving the impression of an opposition party, there will never be an opposition party ("let's all elect more Dems, and then things will be okay!").
Clearly they act on behalf of the Right. How? By establishing how far the acceptable Left can go. Because the Democrats never want to UNDO anything the GOP does (they only say "no more"), the Dems keep the political center wherever the GOP leaves it. In this way, the GOP and Democrats operate as a single tool for the oligarchy: they work together to form a ratchet. The GOP pushes us to the right, and the Democrats, by establishing how "liberal" it's okay to be, provides a barrier to any backsliding -- and then the GOP pushes forward again.
If you were part of the billionaire class, wouldn't you be smart enough to just buy both the parties and be done with it?
I am assuming that in their spoken debate the Republicans voting for this were very clear that they were retroactively condemning the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth for their much worse attacks on decorated veteran (and, admittedly, douchebag) John Kerry?
No?
To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.
It's like "Freedom Fries," but instead of mocking the French, it's mocking the First Amendment.
Sigh. These people suck. "Sense of the Senate" my a$$.
When you cover your butt with both hands, you don't have any hands left to do anything else.
With all the important things they are supposed to be doing (like bringing the troops HOME NOW) they vote on this nonsense? Every Democrat who signed on to this crap should hear from her/his constituents that this sort of thing is not what they were elected to do. What toal garbage. If your senator is on this list let them know you don't approve of this vote. Petraus..the Colin Powell of his generation.
This has to be a first for me concerning this Senate!
I'm actually PROUD of them! OUTSTANDING!!!
What else is there to say?
today's senators want a resolution saying that war is bad. But no unpleasant specifics, like say, references to specific wars, whether current or pending.
And, of course with numerous caveats about when it's regrettable but necessary, etc.
Then they could just pass that and go home, secure in their knowledge that they did what they could.
I fail to see where any "personal attacks" were made. What I did see was Gen. P. carrying out the wishes of GW.
I'm staying home for the next election. There must be reruns of Barnaby Jones on somewhere that night. I can't take any more of this. As one poster remarked, I want my country back the way it was in 1999. Even though it was staggering from Clinton's blow job it was still sort-of standing as a republic. Got change for a Euro?
It's about time...should have been done earlier!
No defamation?! They called a US Army General a liar and a traitor (ie lying to Congress and betraying the American people) with no evidence and even before the man spoke.
BTW, those who want the country like it was in 1999? Don't think that's going to happen. Of course you could always go to France for that...oops...can't do THAT anymore. Sorry.
...you saw Republicans, while in charge of Congress, allowing a vote to condemn Pat Robertson, or the American Enterprise Institute for making a strong statement?
I voted for Gore and Kerry, but I am now hoping Nader runs just so I can tell Democrats that I voted for him.
Tim,
When will the blogosphere awake to the fact that the Democrats have failed us since November and that they are cut from the very same cloth as the Republicans administration we have been tortured with for the past 7 years?
I have been a dedicated reader of yours for quite some time.
When will you come to terms with the fact that the grass roots push has moved in the direction of Ron Paul?
Writers, such as yourself, have been a huge consolation to me over the years. Now, I'm starting to get irritated. When will you guys wake up and see that none of the "top tier" candidates are going to do anything to get us out of Iraq, restore our civil liberties and return America to becoming an example of a free and prosperous nation.
We are on the verge of a financial melt down, people are getting tasered for speaking out, a national ID is on the way and people are playing games in the Senate.
We need to all rally around the only candidate that is speaking the truth. Democrats tell us they want out of Iraq. Bull shit. It's crap. They want to shuffle the deck. That's all.
Republicans tell us they want small government and "values". Rubbish.
The left wing needs to unite around the one candidate that is radical enough to make a difference. Ron Paul.
So, what if people have guns. They have them now! So what if beauracracies are undermained? They are now! I'd rather be left alone without a safety net than have one that I can't trust.
Let's go everyone... hop on the bus.
And then I thought about the President's comments to the Press Corps as shown in the previous War Room entry:
Bush: I thought that the ad was disgusting. I felt like the ad was an attack, not only on Gen. Petraeus, but on the U.S. military. And I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democrat Party spoke out strongly against that kind of ad.
Is this a shrewd Democratic move that will oust the "Petraeus/Betray Us" coverage from the papers?
Although the Democratic Party making a "shrewd move" would be pretty shocking at this point.
Never mind, I take it all back. This is the Democrats trying to be shrewd, once again, by trying to out-Republican the Republicans.
There's a reason we voted the Repubs out of power, you jacka$$es.
