  • Bill Maulden on Small Prices

Regarding non-soldier and non-veteran John Boehner's observation that the thousands of U.S. casualties were a "small price" to pay, there's a Bill Maulden cartoon from World War II on this point. Willie and Joe are in foxhole and Joe's got a paper with a headline about a big and presumably more "important" operation somewhere else.

Willie says: "To hell this ain't the most important foxhole in the world -- I'm in it."

Or as many have observed since the Greeks, Lord Byron among them: The boys throw rocks at the frogs in jest, but the frogs do not die in jest, they die in earnest.

  • We could have done it "on the cheap"

if we had nailed bin laden in Tora Bora. For Christ's sake, we even had tacit support from Iran to clean that joint up. Boehner and his ilk have pegged the American electorate for what they are: People more interested in Paris Hilton than what it takes to make us safer in a troubled world. More interested in Brad Pitt's adopton rites than their on civil liberties. More interested in watching Survivor than payng attention to the realities in Iraq. More interested in "catch phrases" than truth.

Our combined attention span doesn't even allow us to remember that the guy behind the whole mess is alive and, possibly well, in Pakastan for crying out loud, not Iraq. That they are buying a nickle of Boehner's and the neocon rethoric displays a total lack of intelligence as to what is going on around them. Oh, and the "free liberal press" is not doing much of a job trying to inform them of their stupidity either.

I think Boehner and his ilk have devised a perfect "formula for success" and have it at a stage where they could patent it and sell it over FOX for all of the faithful to continue to enjoy in the la-la land they dwell within. Nauseating.

  • What a tool

A great example of Mr. Boehner's importance was exhibited in this interview. At one point Blitzer asked who Boehner was meeting with...was he meeting with the Prime Minister and other leading officials, for example, to express how important it is to Americans that the Iraqi Government finds a way to function? Boehner essentially replied...Wolf, Ramadan is just strarting so we will not be meeting with any of the leading Iraqi policiticans because of their schedules...

So, when he was asked again what he was doing there, he told Blitzer that he and his delegation would be meeting with local officials ... In short, he's there for a photo op and even the big bosses there won't meet with him

    What a tool.

  • Small Price?

Thousands of dead and maimed US soldiers, tens of thousands of Iraqis dead, millions Iraqi refugees, billions of Dollars wasted in an illegal war, the US economy threatened by foreign debts, the American people divided as never before? Mr Boehner join the Army and find out what it is really like. THAN COMMENT AND MAKE SILLY STATEMENTS.

  • John "Boner" is just that

By the way - something's wrong with my Salon page. I'm getting pictures or ads for Jamiee Foxx's new movie and Pfizer ads next to the War Room articles.

I hope that this is a "glitch" and will be remedied ASAP....

  • A small price to pay

Well, if you start a war of AGRESSION (which this was), and you do it under FALSE PRETENSES (which also happened), and you CHANGE YOUR REASONS numerous times (ditto), then eventually you're not going to have the hearts and minds of the American people.

My heart and many others' always said no, and there are people who've come around to that position now. So Boehner, no matter how you slice it, the American people are no longer willing to pay the price.

P.S. As previous letter writers have mentioned: What's Boehner's definition of small?? Cause this ain't it.

  • small price to pay

IS REP. BOEHMIER WILLING TO SPEND A SMALL PRICE"EITHER HIS SON, DAUGHTER OR ANY OTHER RELATIVE FOR THE WAR IN IRAQ?.AMAZING THE IRONY OF HOW EASY IT IS TO SPEND OTHER PEOPLE MONEY, NOW HOW EASY TO SHED THE BLOOD OF OTHERS, AS LONG IT ISN'T ONE OF YOURS. A REAL PHONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, of course it's a small price to pay for him...

He won't be paying any of it, in any fashion. If he and his ilk continue their present course of making sure the "haves" in our society continue to privatize returns and socialize costs and risk, none of his friends and contributors will, either. That will be for our kids and grandkids, and their kids and...

    But, not his.

  • WOLF WHO?

I remember the last time Wolf Blitzer wound up being interviewed by John Boehner. It was disgusting. Boehner went on virtually uninterrupted except for a couple of Wolf's fawning, nerf-ball questions and subordinate silences almost longer the war itself. If Blitzer could not claim an "exclusive" or "first" interview by his "team, the best on TV", he would have absolutely nothing to say. Does ANYONE take him or his interviews seriously? He's no more than a clumsy cheerleader wearing any uniform that fits that day.

  • Republican Minority Leader Speaks

Can I be certain that the designated person actually said those words? How many members of his family if any are serving in the armed forces in harm's way in Iraq? May we have their names?

If Iraq is a "small price" what would be a large price?

Don't be too offended or think I am partisan! To my knowledge no one in either party has moved a Bill for Excess Profits Tax. Since I know that for Republicans as a rule "excess profit" is an oxymoron.

If only there were a visible strand of manhood (a euphemism ladies don't get all bothered)in the House one might feel self-righteous in judgment. Now I can only feel shame.

Were it not for the fact that my Congressman is Henry Waxman I would say a pox on the House. I hold my nose as to the Senate where I will suffer any Democrat that can breathe to protect the US Supreme Court and Cabinet Offices, maybe.

"Small price?" huh? Is there another way to spell "whore?"

  • The NeoConspiracy Spins Unending Lies

I am constantly amazed at these NeoCon Apologists as they spin ever new LIES to justify the aims and Globalist Dominion schemes of their Corporate and Zionist Masters, who control the Banking and create the money that makes everyone, especially Politicians, their fawning Slaves. The Zioist goal of stealing all the land from the Nile to the Euphrates River is well known--What is not known is how these Pseudo-Intellectual 'Think Tank' (now THERE'S an Oxymoron) will grovel like Swine to be paid by their Masters to make excuses for their collective immoral behavior! These self-serving ChickenHeart Whores should just admit the Truth--They want the Oil and Water!

And lest you call me 'Anti-Semite'--most of these Zionists are not even half as 'Semite' as the People they are trying to Annihilate. In their Armageddon Dreams, along with the Christian Fundamentalist Right-Wing 'End-Timers', they are willing to sacrafice everything--including American Democracy!

They are indeed the true "TERRORISTS"!
