  • Hey Tim,

Can you give us a little more context for what seems to be a pretty crass thing for Snow to say. Was Reporter 1 (Bill) white and Reporter 2 black? Then I'd be kind of appalled. Right now, I'm just a wee bit confused.

  • Smoky room

Tony's line sounds like something spoken among friends in smoky parlor ribbing - A far cry from what most people would probably say is the whole purpose of the Press Secretary of Government's Executive Branch. One of truly thousands of small, depressing anecdotes this administration creates...

  • Its an outrage! Not.

I'm sorry. Am I supposed to get outraged or something? I missed the memo.

  • Yeah

What are you trying to say with this post? That Snow is an oaf has been long established. Beyond that, um, what's your point?

  • they all look alike

yeah, sounds like he was making a "all these white guys look alike" kind of joke; is that offensive somehow?

I don't think I see it. I've heard people say that before, it always seemed like self-depricating irony, a recognition of how stupid "all [...] people look alike" is.

There's a lot to pissed off at Tony Snow about, but unless there's more to it...

  • All those white guys

You mean the Republican 2008 presidential candidates? As compared to Democratic Diversityfest 2008?

    Zing!

  • I listened to part of Snow's briefing (his last) and thought that TeamBush is really going to miss him ...

I missed whatever kerfuffle this was ...but damn, he was good at ak-sen-tu-8-ting the positive ...

  • I was confused at first, too

Translation: Snow was using bully tactics to make it look like the reporter thinks that all white guys look alike, and that she gets confused sometimes by her own prejudice. Wow, funny, ha ha. I just LOVE bullies, don't you? I think all the context we need is that Snow is every bit as white as his name. He will not be missed.

  • Was this...

...the cause of the big laughfest at the briefing? I was getting lunch and it was playing across the room, so I could not hear what was going on, but I saw that at one point it looked like Tony was rolling on the floor. I was wondering what was going on.

  • first who cares...

First, who cares. But secondly. The "all us white guys look alike" comment, very clearly came from Snow. It sounded like him, her reaction was clearly directed at him, not to the reporter to her right, "bill", and she even comments that he did something on the first and last day AND defends herself (TO SNOW), "I did not say that!"

So 1) not a big deal. but if it was, Snow said it, and the video clealry shows it.

  • Don't let the door...

Tony Snow is smart and thinks on his feet, but that doesn't mean he doesn't lack any kind of integrity or regard for the truth. Just another Bush-enabling prostitute....are these people so flattered by their association with the rich and powerful that they never look at themselves?

  • How Dare He!

A white man is not allowed to be offended by the things that offend blacks daily. How dare he play the race card that has so often been played by blacks. The gall!

  • I laughed

When the 2nd reported says "I did *NOT* say that," there is a huge grin on her face.

I think it was an innocent and playful moment between colleagues as one of them prepares to move on, professionally.

The humor on both sides (April Ryan and Tony Snow) was evident and nice to see.

Relax. If you want, you can still think Tony Snow is a tool. I know I do :)

  • Relax

    It was a joke, OK?

  • T-t-t-tony Sn-sn-sn-snow

The resemblance to Max Headroom is uncanny.

  • M-m-m-m-max He-he-he-he-headro-ro-ro-room

Damn you, Marquil! You beat me to it!

  • Another...

hard hitting Salon commentary. Good job.
