He copped. And told no one, hoping he'd slip past it unnoticed. He should not be holding public office. End of debate.

don't let up
Sure, I kinda feel bad for what Craig's going through too. But then I remember that the right has been eating the left's lunch for nearly a decade now, showing no glimpse of mercy or compassion. If you're wondering why that is, here's your plain and simple answer: it's because the left has no killer instinct.
The amateur buddhist in me sees the nobility in that; the American in me prefers to not live in a police state. I'd rather sacrifice the guy for the country this is supposed to be than pity him in the country we've become.

They have "hoods" in Idaho?
Damn!, I would've thought the only hoods in Idaho would be the one's attached to their parkas.
Who knew?
-
"Did we bump? Yes, I think we did."
This is much better than the Miss Teen contestant and her maps.

@ Jimmycarl
I respect your skepticism, but I have to ask- Would you accept a guilty plea if you were accused of trying to solicit a prostitute for sex, and you in fact we're not?
-
Toilet Paper
I'm just curious as to why a US Senator - or indeed, anyone - would reach underneath his neighbors stall - or even to the floor of his own stall - to pick up some toilet paper left there by a previous occupant.
I mean, litter prevention is one thing, but really...

Is this that important?
Give Craig a break. Putting the audio up on the site, it totallly outragious. We all already know the Republican family values crowd are a bunch of hypocrits, but there are more important things to be worrying about than "almost bathroom sex".
-
Don't dare stop talking about it
If Craig was a Democrat, the corporate media would've kept this matter alive for months. The Right wing would've blabbered endlessly about "liberal decadence" and "sodomite values incompatible with main street America". Every time this matter is discussed and reported on, more people realize how hypocritical, phony and medieval the Right wing is. It would make some voters who would otherwise vote Republican stay at home and that could determine who the next president is.

@pantanal
Completely agree. I think Foley did more damage to the Republicans last election than they are willing to admit.
When barely a week goes by without a Young Republican trying to suck off a sleeping friend or a Senator fishing under a stall for a hard-on, the disgust will continue to grow, and the reputation of the GOP as the party of sexual perversion will carry into the next election.
It plays into the Republican handbook on controlling the message to "put this behind us" in order to "focus on what's important."
What is more important than putting these people out of power?

The "hoods" in Idaho are where the mexicans and black people live.

"I'm disappointed in you" ????
That is a strange and inappropriate thing for a police officer to say, in my opinion. If you want to arrest a guy for committing what you feel is a crime, that's fine. He's innocent until proven guilty, or until he pleads guilty. Is it necessary for a police officer to verbally chastize Craig in that way? He should keep his mouth shut, write up the ticket, and let him go. Let's take a look at the Internet history on that cop's computer at home and see who's disappointed in who, shall we?

How to get a Republican Horny (Photo)
Here's something I've been sharing around the net that is strangely appropriate under the recent circumstances.
How to get a Republican Horny:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/timtimes/1277152453/
It's an original photo of mine, offered for use under Creative Commons, so if you enjoy it, pass it around. I only set the flickr account up today for the express purpose of and there are already almost 500 views.
It's worksafe and spot-on.
Enjoy.

Say it with me: You have the right to remain silent
The audio track is a great lesson for everyone involved, including Salon readers.
Regardless of what did or did not happen in that stall, he should NOT have made a statement to the cop without an attorney present. Basically pleading entrapment, particularly in this instance is admitting guilt. Craig probably hoped on some level to talk his way out of the arrest. He is, after all, a man of importance. Shouldn't that count for something? (Or so would go the logic in his head.)
Anyhow. Whatever. The Republican party has been pleased to scapegoat gays whenever it is convenient for them. So it goes. Screw him.
More importantly, let this be a reminder to us all that once you are arrested you SHOULD NOT TALK TO THE COPS OR MAKE STATEMENTS TO THEM ABOUT YOUR ARREST. EVER. Let your attorney sort it out.

Too painful
Sorry -- I'm militantly gay and way to the left of the Democrats, but I've got to say I'm with the "enough" crowd. This is like turning up the sound on the last Jonestown tapes to make sure you don't miss the screams.
Have a shred of decency, even if the wingnuts won't. Your karma will thank you one day.

Craig hasn't suffered nearly enough
We're all witnessing a slow-motion meltdown of the vast hypocrisy and vicious double standards of an odious right-winger. If anyone ever got his just desserts, it's Mr. Craig. Keep it coming.
Do you think Craig would have one iota of sympathy for a homeless gay teenager? Or, say, a gifted Arabic-speaking linguist kicked out of the U.S. Army because he's gay? No, he wouldn't. He'd just utter some drivel about having to protect our culture from the "gay lifestyle" and let the unfortunates rot. And the idiots who vote for him would think he's a "good Christian".
Well now the lie is out in the open for all to see, and I won't apologize for enjoying it. He deserves it all and more. The fact is, Craig helped create a culture that demonizes gays and lesbians, and also encourages "vice squads" of precisely the kind that ensnared him. He's caught in his own noose, and I hope he hangs.

I'm "disappointed" in the cops
Doesn't anyone else dislike the fact that the cops can arrest you for mundane crap like this?
I would be like, "Whatever I was doing, officer, it was none of your business. Fuck off."
