Reading the Tea Leaves
Albert Speer, in "Inside the Third Reich," said the Fuehrer said the same thing about teenage Russian soldiers being sent out against the Wehrmacht. It was "proof" that the Russians were finished.
I'm not saying that it means the Iraqis are going to counterattack all the way to Washington DC, even though some of the apocalyptic Republicans would love to raise that spectre. I'm just saying the finding teenage fighters in the fighting in Iraq means one thing only -- that we're finding teenage fighters in the fighting in Iraq. As little as we actually know about Iraq, anything else is conjecture.

I have a question
Just read in Der Spiegel that Gonzo resigned based on on reoprts from the New York Times. What gives? Is there reason to celebrate? Check it out svp.

Are you sure you don't want to give that "quote of the day"
I know I'm only on my first cup of coffee but I doubt I will hear anything any more stupid today.

First, they are not Al Qaeda
The first fiction, offered with not a hint of guile, is that these fighters are Al Qaeda.
When we killed civilians in Vietnam they instantly became "Viet Cong." One minute, they could be walking down a trail to work their rice, or go into the hills for firewood, the next minute a Pink Team (Two Cobras and a LOACH) spots them and lights them up. Now they are Viet Cong. Add them to the body count in the war of attrition.
Same now in Iraq. One minute they are at a wedding of a friend, dancing, eating milk and dates, laughing and singing. The next minute a 500 lb. JDAM comes in through the roof and turns them into a boiling soup of human tissue.
"Al Qaeda!" says the military. Every last one of 'em. Even the bride.

Child fighters
Could it be that they are taking revenge for the killing of members of their family? Besides that any Iraqi who does not agree with the illegal occupation of their country is AlQaida. Bush says so , therefore it must be true. Where in blazes are the flowers we were told would be greeting out troops as "Liberators" by the Dick of the administration? Whos is goingt to be next? The unborns? Hate must really be deep.

Language
Please stop using the phrase "wait for it" when writing, as if you are drawing the prize curtain on The Price is Right. If I see someone write that again on Salon, I may remove the site from my bookmarks and never return again.

Children's Crusade?
Just so long as they're not giving free health care to those children they have in custody, since we know from the GOP that kind of thing is un-American, something conservatives in America are actively working to deny American children with their opposition to CHIP. I'd hate to think that child fighters in Iraq get better access to health care than American children; if they are, that says everything about why our priorities in this country need to be rethought in a big way.
-
So?
Now it's just like subsaharan Africa and we all know no one gives a crap about them.
-
If I were a child and some invading army killed my father...
...I'd be out by the roadside, you can bet your ass on that.

Younger jihadists.
As the americans round up anyone between 14-50 and lock them up as suspected terrorists apparently they are missing a few of the 14 year olds, leaving a "younger " group of people who hate us enough to kills us even at such a young age. That some big-wig is using that as evidence that the surge is working is nauseating. The surge can't last forever and unless they are willing to jail everyone between the ages of 14 and 50 forever, it's a self-defeating end game. What the hell does this say about winning the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqis ? We need to get the hell out of that arena, get a new government here, and figure out a diplomatic way to mend these asinine fences Bushsit has erected through his hubris and incompetence.
-
Is there anything...
...that isn't "proof" that the surge is working? And is there anyone in the media/press that notices that everything seems to "prove" the surge is working?
-
Did I miss something?
Where is the rest of the quote? Specifically, the part where General Stone says that middle school kids detonating IEDs is evidence that the "surge" is working. Your post cites "the military" with out giving a name. Is the LA Times quoting an "anonymous source?" I want to know exactly who in the military command structure is that stupid? Or, is this more of the same sloppy journalism that got us into this mess in the first place, just on the other side?
