Leahy to Rove: It's not over

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman vows to continue the investigation into Rove's role in the prosecutor purge.

The letters thread is now closed.

Another strongly worded letter

Seems to be what Leahy's good at, sending well written letters to members of the White House. I'm sure it'll be followed up by a letter "strongly" requesting compliance with the as-yet-uncomplied with subpoenas of this investigation. Which will be followed by yet another letter. Repeat ad nauseum until pardoned by Bush.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a waste of paper until Leahy gets on the phone with the Sergent at Arms and has Rove brought forcibly before the Senate to answer for his crimes or be held in contempt.

So what?!

There are things called telephones. And, there is a technology called email. An "official" resignation doesn't mean that advice will not be asked or offered. And, it doesn't mean that he can't control things from his home. Until Bush is out of power, there should be no sighs of relief or assumptions that Rove is not in play.

Dark Clouds

Yawn....Call me when the dark clouds over the Whitehouse produce lightning that strikes. Otherwise Leahy's forecast is nothing more than useless hot air.

Monday, August 13, 2007 09:47 AM

Leahy to Rove:

You better watch out!

No more Mr. Nice Guy!

I'm a-tellin' you!

I REALLY mean it THIS time.

The rats are leaving

Now that the leader of the rats is gone, lets hope for good, there is hope that Bushits ship will sink a bit faster.

Monday, August 13, 2007 09:59 AM

Will Bush relocate the White House to a non extradition country?

Oh I hope so. I hope the Winter White House moves to Bahrain. That would be priceless. Real thumb in the eye to all the Libs.

Useless

Leahy should lighten up on the guy. Rove is probably only resigning because he realizes his memory is probably not as good as it once was and that most of his actions are taking place under his authority but not under his ability to remember anything.

Monday, August 13, 2007 10:07 AM

It better not be "over"

As a voter in the 2006 elections, the major issue was corruption. Perhaps it is over simplification, but Rove was the poster child for abuse of power.

I expect Leahy, Waxman and ANY elected official to punish those who broke the law. There has to be consequences for such behavior or we are doomed. Weren't we not too long ago a nation of laws?

Monday, August 13, 2007 10:14 AM

the next journey for George W Bush and his trusty sidekick Karl Rove?

straight into Hell!

Monday, August 13, 2007 10:38 AM

i want to know, don't you?

Karl Rove stepped in his own filth. Pat Leahy should expose him as the criminal he really is.

Monday, August 13, 2007 11:18 AM

My personal opinion is

that a subpoena or two or three may not be enough.

Does Rove have his passport in good order? For that matter, would he even need one to escape to Bush's reportedly new compound in Paraguay?

Monday, August 13, 2007 11:28 AM

If Karl Rove admitted he killed Jesus and Elvis

George Bush would pardon him. The whole train wreck is a charade of process. It doesn't matter why Rove is quitting, if in fact he really is. None of this matters because Congress imagines it has any power which it doesn't. They can march every administration character up the Hill and have them forget to remember to answer anything all day. Absent a jury trial it does not matter if we know they're all lying.

Monday, August 13, 2007 11:41 AM

Make That Jesus, Elvis, Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy

..and he'd still walk away with a pardon.

Dark Shadows:

As the Turd Turns, these are the Days of Our Lives.

Monday, August 13, 2007 11:52 AM

Deathbed confession?

Will Rove follow his mentor Lee Atwater in confessing his sins against America when facing the end?

Let's wait and see.

Monday, August 13, 2007 12:11 PM

Another one bites the dust?

Hardly.

Rove will get his multi-million dollar book deal, become the king of Fox Network, and keep his hand firmly up Bush's behind while George "talks". Distance is no impediment. That's why we have RNC Blackberries.

This has to be a strategy to keep more investigations from spilling into the hallway outside W's office. On the other hand, one wonders what it is that is moving toward "out of control" so fast that it could give Bush's brain travelin' fever. Can't wait for the other shoe to drop. Or maybe, like Rumsfeld, it's just time to slink away and pretend he's a success while the disaster is still in the spin cycle.

Bush can keep citing privilege over anything concerning Rove's dark dealings so there won't be anything ugly in he works there...Leahy's "miffed" stance notwithstanding. And now, gee, the guy doesn't even work for him. So how could anyone claim there is a Rovian stench at the White House.

I hope the GSA has been putting out huge no-bid contracts on fumigating the White House after they're all gone. Gone, but alas, not forgotten until my great grandchildren are old enough to vote. If then.

Leahy can say anything

but until he actually does something, it's all just hot air. Time is short to bring these guys to justice, what say you, Senator Leahy? Can we get a contempt of congress referral? A resolution of impeachment? A fart in the wind?

Monday, August 13, 2007 01:12 PM

leahy...

is impotent.

Monday, August 13, 2007 02:46 PM

"...desperate..."

Next to "desperate" in the dictionary, there must be a picture of Pat Leahy.

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 04:32 AM

Leahy is a pussy.

If he had any balls he would have arranged the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest Turd Blossom for Contempt of Congress when his helicopter landed at Crawford. Even better, just as he was ready to fill his mouth with ribs at the barby being thrown by his pal Bushit. Yea, I know, but it would have been a glorious sight...

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 07:07 AM

Patty Leahy reminds me of Demi Moore

in the movie,"A Few Good Men", when she rises to object :

Demi : Objection,your Honor !

judge : over ruled

Demi : No, I strenuously object !

judge : noted

CHEW AND CHOMP

Sen. Leahy:

I hope that you will chew and chomp until you get your man. We know that Rove is withholding information and if it is not damaging to him or Budh then why not release it.

On Going Home - Karl Rove Meets Robert Frost

“‘Home is the place where, when you go there, they have to take you in” (Death of the Hired Man). I don’t know if Mr. Rove has ever read Frost. I’m sure Pat Fitzgerald got it from the Jesuits and again while at Amherst. Maybe that explains the Special Prosecutor’s not so special rating on Kyle “the Aggregator”s list. In any case, the quote came to mind when Mr. Rove spoke publicly about going home. He is of course, accompanied by his stunning legacy that many Americans, including former colleagues, already repudiate.

I’m reminded of the Godfather movie when a hitman was testifying before a Senate committee about the “family” and described the layers of hierarchy that protected the bosses. The witness got a kick out of the term “buffer” when used by a Senator. The thug laughed out loud as he tried out (with considerable mischief) the new term, declaring: “Buffers - Yeah, Buffers – the family’s got lotsa Buffers”!

How come Gonzales is still standing? I ask you!!! Does anyone on the planet think Al Gonzales came up with the notion of loading up interim USA’s in Rove’s image and likeness from a sneak paragraph in the “Patriot” Act. And then, with yet additional uncustomary genius, delegated the execution of the plan to the true-believer acolytes Sampson, Goodling, Schlozman, and Taylor (& Jennings – Don’t forget Mickey Barnett). I watched them; clever, not bright; moralistic yet unethical; waxing apologetic for mistakes (never wrongful acts) yet unmoved by the notion of change; and finally proclaiming loyalty to their political idols and benefactors rather than the Constitution that actually pays their salaries. TOGETHER, THEY DON’T ADD UP TO 1 ADULT. They are just layers of insulation (you know – the BUFFERS) to protect the architect of the plan, Karl Rove.

The only real issue is the gutting of the Constitution embodied in the twisted scheme of the US Attorneys' firings. Under THIS rock is hidden a labyrinth of secrets and dark visions – the evisceration of civil rights for women and minorities, voter disenfranchisement, manipulation of the workplace values and conduct, extinction of personal privacy, and likely other agendas yet unidentified.

When I worked for the state of Florida, Jeb Bush during his 1st term had Arthur Andersen create a video (very slick, very expensive and I thought, very compelling and effective) as required training for EVERY state employee. My job was in educaton and training and train we did – around the clock for weeks to meet an absolute, drop-dead, turn-in-your-keys deadline. The training characterized ethical behavior with two brilliant, irreducible truths: 1. It’s simply doing the right thing even when no one is watching; 2. Just because you have the right (power, authority, permission) to do something, doesn’t make it the right thing to do (i.e. the early laws on slavery).

I’ve watched all public testimony by every witness from the White House or DOJ. Their reaction to those two ethical standards might run between dumbstruck and offended, but in NO CASE, at any time during their sworn testimony did these two principles ever seem to apply TO THEM. In the Neo Con fantasy, it’s in for a Penny, in for a Planet.
