Fried Twinkies?
Seriously?

Seriously
Fried Twinkies, fried Oreo cookies, fried ice cream, pickled dawgs, corn dogs, foot long dogs, hot beef sundaes, cheese on a stick, hardboiled egg on stick, chicken on a stick, nut rolls on a stick, funnel cakes, smoked turkey legs, blooming onions, shaved ice, etc. etc. etc.

You can't shame Field Marshal Romney and his Deseret Rats
His Holy Undergarment will protect him from criticism.
-
Jeez Michael
Put your tongue back in your mouth - most fairs have junk food - you don't have to eat it!
-
Romney is Disgraceful
I find this story to be tragic. I cannot believe that Romney would act that way. The poor kid served over in Iraq and he can't ask a few questions. What happened to the "Thank you for your service." It is a typical politican. I hope Romney loses....
-
@anonymous...no point otherwise..
I can't blame Scherer. Truth be told, there is very little reason to GO to a state fair, esp. one in the midwest, unless yer gonna eat some 'o' that great food.
Otherwise, the only real entertainment is watching all the fat people, and watching the animals take a crap.
-
I don't know
why that kid didn't just volunteer for Mitt's campaign, 'stead of going all the way to Iraq.
-
Say it ain't so!
"I tried to ask him questions. You know I am an Iraq vet who served my country and he can't give me a few minutes of his time, and he wants to walk off. I think that's really disrespectful," he said.
You mean to say that, after a soldier has made his great contribution, and has nothing left to contribute to Candidate Mitt (including a good photo op), that the candidate isn't really interested in the soldier or his contribution? Wow! Who knew??
Seriously, if the troops could really understand exactly how they're being taken for a ride, how their contribution is only valued inasmuch as it can advance a callous politician's personal agenda, I think we could even achieve world peace by emptying the US military of its cannon fodder.
-
When Will They Ever Learn...
If Devoll is not willing to push his agenda directly at Mitt and others, then nothing will happen. Was he physically threatened by Mitt's handlers? What if he just kept in his face? With all the press around, according to Scherer, what would he do? I'd love to see that on the MSM...or FAUX NEWS. Hannity? O'Reilly? Would you welcome this guest to your shows?
As a Peace Activist, I might just look the other way if some Iraq vets had an episode of PTSD and forgot where they were...you know what I mean?
Peace,
st john

It's about giving orders, not asking questions
Why else do you think the Republican YouTube debate has only attracted McCain and Paul (and probably only McCain because he's desperate)? The last thing these guys want to do is answered unfiltered questions from voters. At least the Democratic candidates give a damn, or pretend like they do.

Foolish soldier!
Foolish soldier! He thinks service to his country earned him a hearing, assured him some status, an impeccable cred.
But it does not. None will be heard.

Mitt Romney: "I cannot justify this war or it's result."
This might as well have been what he said. At leaast it is how it should be interpreted.
If starting this war- or even prolonging it's disasterous consequences- is even remotely justifiable, this would have been a PERFECT opportunity for Mitt to promote himself and the Iraq policy.
Instead he stuttered out a few lame ass talking points and ran away like a fucking little coward.
That should tell you all you need to know....

Romney
Hypocrite par excellence. Does he know what he is talking about? All those experts on wars and warfare missed out on really serving their country. Romney is not any different from Bush, Cheney and kots of other neo-cons, and a Smith BS believer at that.
-
is there a law?
Is there a law saying that the same person can't be both a republican candidate and a democrat one? With shit sacks like romney being a top contender, i'd vote for obama or richardson in the repug primary.
It is a kinda good idea. Most republicans currently prefer "none of the above". A democrat really has a chance to win a few republican primaries.

Yes, politics at a state fair
I don't know about state fairs in other parts of the country, but in Midwestern states, candidates always work the state fair, as do incumbents and state parties. The only difference apparent between Iowa and Minnesota is it sounds like the candidates in Iowa didn't set up booths, but I'd bet somewhere on the fairgrounds the parties and candidates for other offices were set up.
Regarding Romney's answers, he hasn't a clue, and hasn't even thought about it. I can't believe he's even taken seriously until I consider his opponents.

The true face of the Republican party ...
... is a leading Republican candidate for the Presidential nomination turning his back on a wounded veteran asking hard questions.
So here's my question for the MSM: where's the outrage? I guarantee you that if Clinton or Obama or Edwards or, hell, Kucinich did something like that, we'd be treated to weeks of droning pundits telling us about how Democrats don't support the troops, don't believe in America, and want al-Qaeda to win. Not just the individual candidate who did it, you understand, but all Democrats. But when a Republican does it? Wow, listen to those crickets chirping ...

Mitt Rmoney's Faith and his war.
Mormonism is a fine religion- clean, sturdy people searching and dreaming and fantasy-stoking.
They should have respect in this world and in this presidential campaign as well.
The believe that Proto-Chritian tribes visited the Americas hundreds of years before Erickson and those adventurous Asians.
Perhaps Romney believes in the victorious US warriors of Viet Nam and Iraq and The Bay of Pigs (not no mention Reagan's Beruit). Victorious in their example of counter-productive, US foreign policy.
Giuliani wants to attack Iran. Clinton would defend the Israeli Settlements, Tancredo and others would militarilly seal our borders just like North Korea does.
Is Romney's endless Iraq any worse?
Mormons produce a lot of offspring- mostly Republican-voting. Maybe he can get them all to enlist for 100 tours of duty in the US 52nd State's (endless) civil War.
Peace and Justice seems to be off the table with all of the major Iowa bids-electors and candidates alike.
Maybe he just wants to deploy some Fried Twinkies.
Don't "Fried Twinkie" and " Republican Candidate '07" have
similar images?
