  • Bad idea....

What ever you think about Bill Clinton he is a very good politician. They could'nt destroy him with this stuff when he was president. It seems like inviting Bill Clinton more fully into the political ptocess could backfire on them. They have been riding high because they only had to deal with John Kerry and Al Gore, they bseem to have forgotten what it is like to deal with a skilled political opponent.

  • These headlines just in...

Sun will rise in east tomorrow.

    Water reported to be wet.

Sky still blue, except when cloudy.

Really, is anything like this a surprise to anyone who remembers Clinton's Presidency?

  • Never Been Done Before

You mean people are going to try and dig up stuff on Bill Clinton to smear him? Why didn't the GOP think of doing that before?

I'm sorry, but what else could be left? A pack of viscous dogs went after him once with a $70 million budget. Does anybody think there is anything left to find?

  • To paraphrase Ronald Reagan,

    There they go again.

  • Stupidest thing I ever heard

If ever we needed proof that Howie Kurtz is a moron, this is it. I mean for God's sake, we have a freaking description of Bill Clinton's penis thanks to the Monica Lewinsky scandal. There is nothing about the Clintons that hasn't already been picked through, poured over, chewed up, and spat out in the public discourse machine. That right wingers will attack Bill Clinton is a matter of course. Hell they blame him for everything, including Hurricane Katrina.

I'm no HIllary supporter, but the ONE good thing I can say about Candidate Hillary is that every possible piece of dirt on her and her husband has already been unearthed.

  • Holy cow batman!

A smear campaign by G.O.P. operatives against a candidate from the opposition party? Man, what a novel idea. I bet, given the intelligence of the average American, it will work better than butter on biscuits. I even bet that after the past seven or eight years of living through the lying, smearing, fear mongering environment we have just been subjected too, that the latest upgrade by Rovarian Cro-Magnon types will bring new meaning to he word meanspiritness. Let's not be fooled. It'll work. Even if it only works as a means to keep the dumb-assed public's focus off the real issues effecting their dreary lives in this newly formatted banana republic. I think I am going to throw-up....

  • Demonizing the Clintons

While it is true that just about any dirt that could be dug up against the Clintons has already come out, that doesn't mean that the constant repetition by the right wing noise machine couldn't still be effective. I think Hillary has as many of the qualities we would want in a president as anyone out there. (I still haven't made up my mind among her, Obama and Edwards...they all have strengths and weaknesses.) And yet, I actually dread having to endure the kind of campaign that the Republicans would certainly wage against her. Oh, they'll smear the Democratic candidate, whoever it is. That's what they do. But if Hillary is the candidate, it will drive them absolutely apoplectic, and we will see a level of demonizing against both her and Bill that will be ten times worse than anything seen before. I hate the idea of having to close my eyes and cover my ears during every single TV commercial break to keep from being asaulted by images of Hillary with devil's horns growing out of her head (or something just as bad), accompanied by blatant distortions of her record and positions uttered in voices dripping with venom.

If the Democrats do nominate Hillary, they had darn well better be prepared to do a much better job of countering this kind of thing than they've been able to do before.

  • @Litz

Your letter struck me as very naive. Your post only deals with unearthing "the truth"--or things with barely a tenuous connection to the truth--with the Clintons. Stuff that basically happened pre-2001. However, as we saw with John Kerry in '04, there's no end to the lies they will unearth in order to smear the Clintons. Plus, they have six years of catching up to do, let alone what will transpire over the next two. We've yet to see the beginning of it, really.

  • Democrats that fight back?

If the Democrats do nominate Hillary, they had darn well better be prepared to do a much better job of countering this kind of thing than they've been able to do before.

Neither Kerry nor Gore is the sort of person who relishes a political battle; the Clintons, though, are another story entirely. They do know how to fight back. If Senator Clinton is the nominee, I expect that she will have an outstanding oppo team to attack her opponents and defend against criticism; she and President Clinton also have the experience to tough it out against the worst that the Republicans can throw out there.

  • Bring It On

Yes. Let's see how well smearing Hillary with Bill works.

It'll remind the electorate of what it is like to have (1) competent people in the oval office; (2) a balanced budget and record surpluses; (3) real national security; (3) a president who can actually speak English; (4) elected officials who actually understand policy...

Also: what could there possibly be to say? Everything that happened before he left office is well known, and I'm sure the Clintons can hadle it. And what is there to say since he left office? He's had more affairs? Ok. who cares?

Finally -- if there is one thing the Clintons can manage it is a nasty political dogfight. I'm sure that they are already preparing to give better than they get in any fight like that.

Watch out, Rudi. Watch out, Mitt. In the words of another famous New York superhero: It's clobbering time!

  • after "Genifer Flowers" and "Juanita Broderick" what do they think will shock us ??

this will permit Hillary to be brave and strong ... and -- except for the "sleaze factor", which is shared by several republicans -- I don't think it's going to add up to more than a media circus ... whether it "matters", probably depends on when it's unleashed... against Hillary frontrunner versus Hillary candidate ...

It's all theatre ... Obama's day will come next decade... he's served his purpose of providing the DLC with a "serious alternative to Hillary" (and plumped up his resume)... fait accompli almost in sight.
