    Years ago...

    someone asked Cecil Adams (thestraightdope.com) whether we might have done better in Vietnam by taking the money spent on subduing the country, dividing it by the population, and sending them all checks. Imagine the equivalent numbers for Iraq. (Hell, imagine the equivalent numbers HERE.)
