Quote of the Day

Won't anyone defend Alberto Gonzales?

The letters thread is now closed.

that's ok, I guess

Jon Stewart and Olberman have enough material as it is.

You know you're in the doghouse when...

... even your Republican friends won't go on Fox News to defend you.

Of course, he's not in the only doghouse that seems to matter: that one belongs to Barney.

Seems like...

One by one the public figures in the administration get thrown under the Cheney/Rove bus when they're no longer useful. It should be interesting to see how they treat Bush himself as the next election nears.

wrong defenders

They should've asked colbert.

Monday, July 30, 2007 12:50 PM

They shoulda asked David B. Rivkin, Jr. and Lee A. Casey

Hoo-boy, did anyone else read their Op-Ed (The Real Wiretapping Scandal)in today's WSJ?

Whatta loada crap!!!! I was in the highest of dudgeon from the first sentence on!

Why did they even bother?

I find it interesting that Fox even put themselves in that position without first knowing what he answer would be. It suggests there's been a breakdown of discipline in the Republican party and its subsidiary, Fox News. One a better day, they would have first called the White House, verified that nobody wants to even acknowledge that this guy Alberto Gonzales exists, and then Fox would have smoothly swung into action with "Hey! Look! A Democrat getting an expensive haircut!"

Hatch HEARTS Gonzales

There is a true spirit of bi-partisanship in non-support for Alberto Gonzales. It’s a beautiful thing.

But Gonzales does have a supporter: Orrin Hatch. Hatch was on this past Sunday’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, talking over Chuck Schumer and George Stephanopoulos. Apparently, we the people shouldn’t even be talking about Gonzales because “He was a partner in one of the top law firms in the country!” And this whole U.S. Attorneys General scandal is really “about the Democrats. They’re using him as a punching bag to get to the President.” http://www.observer.com/2007/orrin-hatch-lays-egg

Some interpret Hatch’s support as part of his campaign to succeed Gonzales as Attorney General. After his This Week performance, I see it as the exact opposite. Orrin Hatch is throwing his support behind Gonzales because he really, really does not want the job. Being Attorney General for the lame duck period of this administration would be two giant steps backward and the possible end of Hatch's political career. Hatch’s support smacks of desperation: please, please, please don’t ask me to be Attorney General!

You missed the double blind

This only leaked because the RNC wants to show that Gonzales is out on a limb, and that the party is going to shake him loose. Fox let it leak because it shows that Gonzales really has no support, and that the Republican party is going to hold him accountable.

See, the strategy is going to play the rest of Bush's term out to make it look like he's not REALLY a Republican. That he lost the way. That the party doesnt' support him, and will actually be relieved when he's out of office. It's the democrats' job to make sure that this storyline doesn't play out.

Hot potato politics

I have to say that the quote of this bringing down of Gonzalez is a way to the President is in fact correct. It reminds me of the same way Capone was brought down, one crony at a time. However, the Republicans seem all too eager now to set anyone out for the fox hunt as they seem to feel their time is waning. They are merely trying to save Bush's legacy in a war of crony attrition. Sadly, those seeking justice for the many mistakes and mistruths of this administration have a great sea of of crony to wade through.

We can see the GOP doing this with the Bush Administration at large, trying to save face for 2008.

Say it ain't so, Joe

Even Joe "GOP Kneepads" Leiberman won't step to the plate to stick up for poor, poor 'berto? Man, that's sad when your favorite lapdog won't even give you a lick. Joe must be off waxing Cheney's car or polishing Bush's knob or something else equally obsequious for him to miss a butt-kissing opportunity like this one.

they couldn't be bothered..

In the aftermath of Gonzo's testimony last week the Fox news website couldn't muster an article about the fiasco, but did have 3 different commentator's take on Lohan.
