The embattled Louisiana Republican denies some of the charges against him and says he's "eager to continue" in the Senate.

  • Wow. We have a different God, Vitter.

My God might have forgiven you for your moral failings--jeez, you're only human--but not for your hypocrisy. He's a little strict with that "Do unto others" stuff, you know.

  • Once again, the Republicans are just like Clinton.

Even though it's never before been true -- from the attorney firings to the Libby commutation -- the argument is always that Clinton did it, too.

And, of course, the worst was that Clinton had extra-marital sex and Hillary forgave him, which is the one thing they endlessly harp on which actually did happen. And now they're doing that, too, even though it was unforgiveable when Clinton did it.

So tell me again, why do Republicans hate Clinton so much when they keep insisting that they're all just like him?

In their minds, Republican sex lives are different from yours and mine: ours are reason to hate and hound us and theirs are private.

  • Don't Martyrs have to DIE first?

Keep that in your to-do list, sir.

  • Lorena didn't keep it...

...She tossed it out the window. And a passerby found it, and returned it to John Wayne B.

Senator Vitter is in big trouble. Run, Senator! And then eat shit and die. As somebody said before, we all need forgiveness, but you need to resign before your forgiveness takes effect.

Maybe some wise random passerby will find your good parts, and help you to get them back. But that probably is years in the future. Now, you need to resign. Then hide. Then do something good.

  • He didn't get forgiveness from the law!

Prosecute! Even if prostitution laws aren't fair, failing to prosecute this guy just because he is a senator erodes our justice system even further. And his rank hypocrisy should not be tolerated. A society can only give a pass to rank hypocrisy for so long before it totally corrodes from the inside out. Ask Rome how that turned out.

  • Clinton didn't pay for it...

It's so interesting that R's are coming out to forgive Vitter for his moral failings.

Vitter didn't have an affair, he hired a prosititute. He probably broke the law.

  • cheaters

lots of people cheat and lots of people are hypocrites.

This guy is sorry for one thing and one thing only: getting caught

he's got to get back to DC and renew his anti-gay, pro-family agenda. we should leave him alone. it's tough work limiting the rights of others, a quickie after a vote is understandable.

  • Vitter is politically a walking dead man and he knows it.

He can pretend it's all behind him now, but the religious right will shuck him faster than Ted Haggard. Nobody in the GOP is going to want this guy at the table.

Among working class male voters, he's finished. A beer-swilling billybob from Loosiana likes to think he's man enough to get a woman into his trailer without having to pay her, even though he might have to offer some, uh, "incentives" from time to time. So Vitter is no working class hero if he's not man enough to get some bar fly into bed without having to pay for sex.

A man ain't supposed to get caught with whores. That's low class! A man with real money and class keeps a "mistress" and keeps quiet about it.

Vitter's politically dead, he just don't know it yet.

  • Flash O' Inspiraton! Expanation For Fundamentalist Hypocrites!

All of a sudden, it hits me:

Guys such as Vitter never did anything much when they were 14 years old through 20 years old (late junior high through late college). Because they were not cool at all. So they learned nothing.

So they do not get in trouble until they get into the US Senate. And then, they have no experience, so that they do not know how to deal with it.

Vitter, you twit! You should have learned about whores and such long ago, and you should been past that part of growing up. The Lord is MUCH more complicated and much more subtle than you assumed, you arrogant dink!

    Now you know.

  • It's Not Just Hypocrisy, Remember....

It's not just Vitter's obscene moralizing in the matter of Bill Clinton's (stupid but) consensual affair with Monica Lowinsky (and the "perjury" charge against Bill doesn't really stick, does it, since the lie concerned an issue that wasn't illegal?).

It's that ol' Davy solicited prostitutes. Even in Louisiana that's ILLEGAL. HE BROKE THE LAW. IN LOUISIANA AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

But it's OK, you know? He went and confessed (he's a "good Catholic", you see), and he said his ten Hail Marys and dropped a little cash in the "Alms" box, and he's "forgiven".

It's all so nauseating. And one of the reasons I thank my lucky stars that I had the good sense to move the hell away from Louisiana while I had the chance. Just cuz I was born there doesn't mean I would be so stupid as to stay.

  • It Is True

God has indeed forgiven Mr. Vitter.

Unfortunately it is only the God of Please Don't Let Public Awareness Of My Hypocrisy And Selfishness Deprive Us Of The Excitin', High-Status, History-Makin' Life That We Love So Very Much, so it isn't clear if his prayers will in fact be answered.

But while that is a very, very low-ranking God, he is capable of some real surprises. So the Vitters may want to keep up on their cocktail party patter just in case. The rest of us can keep praying to the God of Why Are The Wicked So Strong, who ranks even lower and whose helpless shrugging will never get him promoted.

  • Media's fault

I watched the press conference where Mrs. Vitter 1) cried about her loss of privacy from the press 2) said this was a private matter as her husband literally SCOWLED at the room in anger. After a WEEK of waiting to make a comment, THIS is all he's got? This sexual criminal was forging laws to deny civil rights to same sex monogomous couples, forcing the goverment into the bedrooms of millions of Americans, and has the tumerity to whine that the media finds this hypocrite's illegal use of whores NEWS? Amazing that NOW he's found out to be a whoremonger, and his wife is faced with the awful decision that perhaps philandering should not destroy her committed relationship they come to the very tenets that liberals have ALWAYS held -- that sex is private and that perhaps Clinton's (legal) sexual philandering was simply not enough reason for his wife to abandon him.

I wonder if they'll apologize to all the gays the Clintons?
