a harsh letter. Isn't that from the Spanish Inquisition? no wait... it is nothing, and they might even just send you a youtube video of cheney saying Go Fuck Yourself. That would be more appropriate response to this.
Excuse me, but didn't she break the law? In fact, didn't she show extreme contempt for the very government of the United States of America? And isn't this woman an attorney?
Gee, with -- gasp -- harshly worded letters being sent out, it's amazing Republicans think they can get away with anything. What's next? A sharp rebuke?
Conyers,
Don't make me laugh you impotent little weasel. Harriet won't show and you won't do JACK!!!!!!! Hell, she's probably with Cheney in the 'undisclosed location' by now. Under the protection of the secret service. The WH will probably deny she ever existed. Harriet who? Never heard of her. All you Dems in congress are nothing more than baby lambs being led to the slaughter by Rove & Co. What you gonna do when Bush nukes Iran??? Cry???? Ha!!
The House of Representatives has the power to have the Sergeant at Arms arrest Harriet Miers, and try her for contempt of Congress on the spot. If a simple majority finds her guilty, she can be imprisoned for the remainder of the term of the current House (until January 2009) if she chooses not to testify.
This has been done before, albeit rarely. However, since the Gonzalez Justice Department cannot be counted on to enforce a criminal contempt charge against Miers, then this is what the House must do.
It's time to stop fooling around and come down like the Fist of God on these people.
"In the letter, Conyers gives Miers and her lawyer until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to respond in writing as to whether Miers will comply."
And if Miers doesn't respond by Tuesday at 5:00, she'll get an even more strongly worded warning letter. That one might even include scary phrases like "we're very concerned" or "your behavior is rather untoward."
If she doesn't respond to THAT warning letter, we'll send her one on totally inappropriate stationary, and there might even be an impolite word or two, like "severely" or "extremely" (as in "Pardon me, Ms. Miers, but we find your behavior extremely untoward.") We might even get really impolite and throw in a word like "distasteful"!
If Miers doesn't respond to our third warning letter, well, we'll all just cross our arms and pout. And if we see her on the street, we'll just turn up our nose and walk in the other direction, and maybe utter the word "shameless" under our breath. Why, the nerve of that woman!
(((Jeez Louise, Miers should have been slapped hard with contempt the second she didn't appear. A Warning letter?!! Are they running a Congress or Aunt Pittypat's Third Grade School for Tea Party Etiquette?)))
but you have to cover all your procedural bases and give them a last, public chance to clear their names before you start frog-marching them into Congress to tesitfy. That's the way it's done in a democracy. That's why we aren't allowed to spy on people without warrants, put people in prison without charging them with anything, or torture them once they are there. There are certain rules you have to keep playing by if you're going to oust this authoritarian regime with the moral highground and without a bloody coup. I was impatient until now, but I think the hearings are gaining traction, and I am starting to feel the tiniest little glimmers of hope. Trying very hard not to let myself hope, of course. But it's getting harder.
That ever-popular threat: you'll hold your breath until you turn blue.
Bush & Cheney know the administration is overreaching in its claims of Executive Privilege anyway so they'll just claim the privilege for any information they don't want to release.
Even if it's obvious that a claim is invalid the administration will just hold everything up until a court order decides what is actually covered. This will probably take a good long time. Until then, why not withhold everything?
After all, since the Democrats have stated that they won't impeach under any circumstances so where's the down side for the Republicans if they simply don't cooperate while making bogus Executive Privilege claims?
Yes, Congress must know this: our patience is not endless. If they don't get something done and soonish, we will... we will... we will post nasty angry messages on Salon.com blogs! That's what we'll do! Be afraid, Congress. Be very afraid.
(C'mon people. It takes a long time to bring down a Presidency, no matter how fucked up. Give the Congress some time, they're at least doing something. What are you doing? Sitting at your computer and mouthing off? Go found an organization, get petitions out, march on Washington D.C. and demand change. Freaking out on the pages of Salon.com won't do shit and you know it. But it's the path of the least resistance and it makes you feel good about yourself, doesn't it? I mean. That's why I do it.)
It is repugnant that an active member of the Texas State Bar who was once considered for nomination on the U.S. Supreme Court, would snub her nose at a congressional subpoena. Ms. Miers should be held in contempt and then disbarred. Mr.Gonzales should also be disbarred for lying to Congress and failure to uphold the U.S. Constitution. Even we lawyers have some ethics.
contempt? at the behest of the king.
IT DOSENT MATTER, NO ONE CAN PUNISH HER BECAUSE BUSH IS ON HER SIDE...
*** f*k$ng bu$$$hit ***
Good thing shes not a Supream court Jutice now.
Even if Miers doesn't show and is placed in contempt doesn't she and her lawyer realize that Bushit won't be the one sent to jail once this mess finally reaches the courts and I assume ends in her being charged with obstruction? Bushit doesn't give a rats ass about his former lovers. I'm sure hope she realizes that he'll be out of office and unable to pardon her once she is yanked back to reality...
