I know that there are a lot of people like you who find rocking the boat distasteful regardless of who the captain is. How else could otherwise educated Germans let Nazis take over without a fight?

But I think you are wrong that people would not want see the Democrats exercise leadership. If the Executive Branch can give Congress the finger with a 29 percent approval rating and the Congress does nothing, that hurts Democrats. Look at the polls: the Democrats had something like a 48 percent approval rating after taking office. After months of doing nothing they now have a lower approval rating than Bush. Who do you think stopped supporting them in the polls? The "center" as you define it? Of course not -- it's what should be their base.

You are not the base, magno. And you are not the center for that matter (they are people who don't pay attention -- not Lieberman types like you who exist only in the media and DC). The public appreciates leadership. That's why the GOP wins even when they are leading us off a cliff. The Democrats should give it a whirl.

By the way, thinking for yourself and expecting leadership is not "being shrill."

  • Who abused our civil liberties?!?!

I remember a cartoon from years ago:

First panel--Mom, holding empty cooky jar: "Who ate all the cookies?!?!"

Second panel--Kid, to Mom: "I did not eat one!"

    Third panel--Kid, to buddy: "I ate 10!"

    ----

On April 27, 2005, Gonzales testified that "There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse."

Nothing new, just one more time that the Bush Administration has brought bratty children to mind.

  • Status Quo? - Let's Upset it

Sorry Magno, I'm with RbL on this one. A "threat to the status quo in America" is exactly what we need. Contrary to your statement Rush, et al, are trying to maintain the status quo in keeping Republican/Bush control of the country.

A member of society should take action contributing to and supporting that society instead of protecting one's insular world while the rest of the society rots or is attacked in some manner. If the founding fathers had been so concerned about upsetting the applecart then Mr. Bush probably would actually be King George.

The Democrats are demonstrating timidity and political cowardice when a good dose of statesmanship is needed. Being "in the center" shouldn't mean "do nothing and maybe things will get better".

  • Big difference asshole!

The Republicfreaks are really out of control. If they are "family values" sorts, they are sexual deviants. If they are for law an order... they jump up and down when a sitting president parses the meaning of is, in order to not have to talk about his sex life in front of a shithead like Ken Starr.

But when there is really something serious, like civil rights abuses by the FBI, then the meaning of is becomes ever so relative.... Just slip slidin' away! Really, the Orwellian nature of the Republican's and their oppositespeak is really breath taking. Is it really possible for these people to continue in a non-reality based mind set?

Our constitution has been severely tested by Bush... and the asshole has appointed two ultra-conservative freakaziods to lifetime appointments running one third of our governement. Surely that is enough. Take the stick away from him before he pokes anybody else's eye out. Gonzales, Rove, Miers, Cheney.... remove them all. They are criminals. Leave little Georgie to his own. After all, he is the our last best hope of destroying the Republican party for good.

  • Talking about Dictionaries

In their continuing efforts to obfuscate the truth, Bush Justice officials are now seeking subterfuge in Webster’s dictionary. In browsing through a Merriam-Webster dictionary which recently added 100 new words to its repertoire, those officials will now come across a word with which they should be very familiar. The new word, “ginormous” (a combination of the adjectives “gigantic” and “enormous”) certainly is descriptive of the magnitude of the failures that can be attributed to the Justice department and the rest of the Bush administration during the past six years. And, talking about dictionaries, it should come as no surprise to anyone, that--after six years of scandals--Conservatives will certainly expunge words and phrases such as "family values,“ "morality,“ "ethics,“ "integrity,“ and “compassionate conservative” from their campaign slogans dictionary during the upcoming elections.

  • Gonzales: the gift that keeps on giving --

"On April 27, 2005, Gonzales testified that" --

"There has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse" in the FBI's surveillance program."

He told the truth; there was more than one.
