Um, minor quibble

I forgave you for the adultery and the sex out of wedlock. Hell, I don't really care about such things. But you haven't even asked for forgiveness for your hypocrisy. I'm still waiting . . .

--God

P.S. I'm a figment of your imagination.

I understand completely.

After a long day of repressing societal values, regimenting social mores and just generally telling other folks how best to live their lives, nothing helps a godfearing man relax like a good hooker...

You missed something...

HEY! Didn't you read the honorable Senator's statement? He's already discussed this whole thing with God, and the Big Guy has forgiven him.

PERIOD! END OF SENTENCE! So that's the end of the matter. How DARE you try to smear a good, Godly man like Senator Vitter with these baseless charges?

"Baseless", you ask? Why yes. Forgiveness from God means that the whole thing never happened. And only a godless secular liberal Democrat would think otherwise.

Speaking of which, if any Democrats are on that madam's list, I look forward to hearing all about it in every major media outlet. And the great thing is that the Democrats won't be able to play the "God Forgives Me" card, because everyone knows that God doesn't listen to Democrats.

Quirky AP story on Vitter

You say "Sen David Vitter, R-La", the standard way of presenting a public office holder. The AP news wire story by Douglass Daniel, on the other hand, waits until the 6th paragraph to tell us, um, BTW, he's a Republican. Interesting.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 07:21 AM

So let me get this straight...

If you are a "social values" Christian, like Vitter, and you happend to be caught using the services of a hooker, then it's only a matter between Vitter his family and God, and it's nobody else's business. Nothing to see here, folks, move along...

However, if you are a wayward sinner like Bill Clinton, then something like an extra-marital affair between consenting adults is the business of the entire country, and requires lawsuits, impeachment, and media scrutiny of the highest order for years, and in some ways, for the rest of his life.

Great. I get it.

God issues controversial pardon in Party of God Senator sin case

God said yesterday at his weekly White House press briefing "He is forgiven. I think he has suffered enough already. He used a condom, so there was no venereal disease or need for an abortion This was a one-time transgression by a guy who had never even looked at a woman with lust in his heart before--not even his wife. The escort has donated the fee to charity, so let it go, Salon people, or there will be Hell to pay when your time comes."

Republican style moral relativism

Anything a Republican politician does is fine, no matter how heinous, disgusting, illegal, or illicit. God is on the side of the Republican Party, you see, and they're the party of Good. Whatever a Republican does is therefore done in the service of Good and must be forgiven because Forgiveness is the Lord.

The only unforgivable sin is supporting something that Democrats believe in. The Democrats are Evil, no matter how virtuous, moral and upstanding any of them appear to be. They're just faking it. God is going to Get Them come Judgement Day, with none of this namby-pamby love and forgiveness nonsense.

Vitter is A-OK because he's God's Boy and is standing firm against evil homosexuals who take marriage seriously (unlike him) and just want to be good family men (again, unlike him). It's moral relativism, Republican style. Anything whatsoever that a Republican politician does is moral. Didn't you all realize that?

I accept his apology.

I accept it because when I last spoke to God (at least I think it was God, as there was some static interference) He/She told me to: love thy neighbor (but not too much and if you do use a condom), turn the other cheek (but not the lower ones, at least not if your pants are down), and, to do unto others as you would have them do unto you (unless you're a neo con, in which case, because of their inherent mean spiritedness, never quail hunt with President Cheney or buy into a preemptive war all of which can and will backfire on you. No pun intended).

Hey, come on lemmings, what's a bit of hypocrisy when so many people are looking up to you for moral and ethical guidance. I mean, really. What can those republican-leaning voting bozos know about the real pressures of married life and having kids and a great pension that will be paid by those suckers anyway.

By golly God, in Her/His infinite wisdom, sure knows how to pick a winner...

How about some reporting on this?

Vitter frames his involvement as if it has already been addressed by all involved parties. Him, his wife, a marriage counselor, god...what about the pimp and the prostitute?

Let's not forget that Palfrey has been asking for men to come forward in her defense and this congressman chose to hide. Let us also assume that if he has been lying all along and has not come forward with the truth, then his story about telling his wife and a marriage counselor is also a lie. Who is to say he didn't just admit this yesterday and this is the first his wife has ever heard of this? There is also the matter of the prostitute herself. I think she deserves an apology from Vitter. In the end, isn't she the victim that is exploited in this situation? Doesn't she deserve consideration? Last I heard, prostitution, and the use of such services was against the law. Now that a congressman has admitted to breaking the law, shouldn't he be indicted or impeached?

Mrs. Vitter

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse News reporter: If her husband was as unfaithful as former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”
