Taylor will still appear, Senate Judiciary Commitee says

Despite the president's invocation of executive privilege, former White House political director Sara Taylor will still appear before Congress on Wednesday.

The letters thread is now closed.

Let's cut to the chase

The question that now presents itself: Will the White House actually go to court to enforce its claim of executive privilege, literally STOPPING her from testifying?

If this does occur, even more intriguing questions come to mind: What, exactly, are they hiding? Is it something directly related to the U.S. Attorney fiasco, or are they attempting to keep the facade of generic executive privilege intact to prevent the truth about other myriad Bush administration scandals from surfacing? (The answer could be "all of the above," of course!)

Memory Hole-in-One

If her attorney is advising her to testify, it'll probably be more of the "Oh, I can't remember...I really don't recall" kind of bogus testimony these Bush Leaguers excel at. With a reward for her later for her loyalty; odds are the Bushies figure a bogus appearance beats holding a hard line across the board.

They probably figured they'd hold that line from the White House, and then greenlight Taylor to come forward to create the impression that she's somehow not fully in step with the machine.

This Is Gonna Be Interesting

I'll hold off on any comment on Ms Taylor's courage until I hear what she has to say, as she could always be an Administration stalking horse. Do I think that they'd send in a ringer who would lie to Congress? Heaven forfend, goodness golly no!

I do prefer to think though, that she's on the up & up, so I'd advise her to stay out of dark parking garages and not to fly on any small airplanes. It will also be interesting to see how fast Fielding scuttles to the nearest tame judge to get a restraining order.

of subpoenas and signing statements

If Bush can unilaterally nullify an Act of Congress with a signing statement, doesn't it follow that he cannot pardon a person held in contempt of Congress? After all, turnabout is fair play. If Congress can't interfere on his turf, he can't interfere on Congress's turf.

Major Panic In The White House

If Sara Taylor's testimony is honest, open, and frank, it is certain to reveal a cesspool of unethical and illegal activity in the White House. Congress must be ready to move on such information. Yes, the first Republican who calls for impeachment will be a national hero. A boil is best lanced promptly, as to let it fester is to risk septicemic infection in the body politic as well as in the body.

Too much to hope for

"If Sara Taylor's testimony is honest, open, and frank..."

-futhark-

That is the crux of the matter. My first reaction to this story, assuming it is correct, was, "Sure. She'll show up, but she'll either suffer from severe memory problems like so many others in the administration, or she'll just keep invoking the fifth amendment. Sorry to be so cynical, but I'll bet the hearings will be a big non-event as far as honest, open and frank are concerned.

Transcript

"Bush is a wise leader...and I don't remember."

"Bush once healed a blind man just by touching him....and I don't remember."

"Is Bush half man/half god or fully divine? I don't know but in regards to your specific question Senator.....I don't recall."

It'll be the same old game as always. Bush is God and they can't "remember" anything that might prove otherwise.

I hope it's

In black A-Line dress, nice heels and a single strand of pearls. Like the Republicans of yesteryore. Other than that I can't think of anything she'll bring to the table.

She is bucking Bush's directive

Does it bode well for the Preznit that the day after he instructs these underlings not to testify, one of them announces via her attorney she WILL testify. Why would she do this in direct defiance of her Shrub unless she is going to spill the beans? And what does Commander Codpiece have to threaten her with, if she testifies? Leaking secrets? She should TELL ALL, and become a national hero protected by the Congress and people. Bush is the lawless one here, as America is beginning to see clearly now.

I'm Much too Cynical

I'm so cynical at this point that I think this is just another scheme. Tailor is told that after the President invokes executive privilege and asks her not to testify, she will bravely defy him and testify anyway. Everyone will believe her lies since she is testifying against Bushe's wishes which will sever the duel purpose of keeping her from being in Contempt of Congress and possible jail time and will keep Bushes smokescreen intack.

She wants to be stopped?

Could be that she wants to be stopped by an injunction, rather than to take the responsibility for not testifying simply because she was "directed" not to do so.

That way she can say that she personally was willing to comply and avoid any personal legal liability.
