A Snow job on Libby

As the House plans a hearing, the White House press secretary mounts a factually challenged defense.

Snow just not up to the job.

Were Dean Swift or Lewis Carroll alive and available for work, Snow would be in the unemployment line.

Here's your quarter million--okay?

No sweat. Did anyone really believe Bush or Snow? And we know that the last thing Bush will do before he heads out the door will sign that pardon--but he'll remind us that Libby paid his fine.

Clinton's pardons were indeed awful, and whenever power is used just because it's there and just because one can, without any regard for principles, for precedents that might be set, it cheapens our government. Perhaps one day soon we'll elect a president who more conscious and respectful of the intentions of our democracy.

Now it turns out Libby won't even serve probation

And his $250,000 fine has already been paid. Because of the law it turns out there's no clear way to give someone monitored probation if they have never been given a sentence. Even if that sentence was suspended which is common, you can give a defendant probation because technically they have 'seved' a suspended sentence. In Libby's case the sentence was erased in it's entirety yet the conviction stands.

It will interesting to see hundreds of defendants in Federal court clamoring for Libby treatment to a) erase the sentence because of 'hardship' or because the sentence (under the precise guidelines) is excessive and then b) to eliminate all probation because of that exact wrinkle in the law.

Interesting. In some third world countries, like Mobutu's Zaire, friends of the government were given "Orders of the Leopard" which legally prohibited them from being arrested but for the personal say so of the President himself.

I think we in America are inches from that. You can still see daylight between that whore's thighs, but it's getting slim.

"Use and Misuse of Presidential Clemency Power for Executive Branch Officials."

How can anyone not laugh at this. I understand why they're angry about this but what will this committee do that will have any real effect?

Who believed them anyway?

Only those who are unfamiliar with this case believed Snow or the president. Those of us who are compulsive critics & skeptics knew that scooter's friends in high places could easily handle the fine given the millions in his defense fund. We also figured that he would not suffer any sting of the law. We also predict that Scooter's pardon will be signed on Bush's last day--and friends of Bush will rush to the mikes to remind us of mark rich. Their strategy is to make themselves appear lawful now with the appropriate language and handle the other stuff while they are running for the doors.

I hope that all the lesser criminals in this country will begin latching on to these precedents afforded the privileged. Maybe we can get some real injustices taken care of.

libby

I do not care what party you are from, if you are a liar you should be punished. Funny thing when my 14 year old walked up to me and said why the hell are you so strict about lying when it obviously pays off to be loyal? Can any member of the GOP answer me? Bennett? Where are you?

Clinton never convicted

Purgery is hard to prove. Scooter Libby was CONVITED of purgery.

Bill clinton was accused of Pugery in denyng he had sex with Monica L. However Bill Cliton WAS NEVER FOUND GUILTY OR CONVICTED OF PURGERY. In fact he was never found guilty of any crimes. His biggest offense was acting like a typical middle age male, when presented with an opportunity to cheat. The spot on the blue dress was not a national security risk or a manipulaiton of the intelligence community. Libby on the other hand helped out an undercover CIA agent. This is a serious abuse of power.

The right is so used to lying now, they can't distinquish

between truth and lies so they will continue their LIES about the Clintons. Granted it was STUPID for the Cinton's to even weigh in on the subject.

More Method Than Madness?

We have been left to incredulous expressions, no words, for want of some explanation for so many actions coming out of this White House. It occurred to me this alternative scenario:

On the Libby commutation-soon-to-be-a-pardon....

When Libby suddenly let the whole mess roll over him without so much as fire-hot rhetoric, the press seemed stunned. What say he was offered this outcome in advance, just be a good staffer and keep his mouth shut.

Now, with the very real possibility of full pardon, where does that place Scooter?

Scooter would be held immune from any further requirement of testimony (as to guilt/malfeasance of Cheney/Bush), thereby giving them an unobstructed pass on ANY prosecution that would have come from Libby (who holds all the day-to-day secrets of his bosses.)

Will anyone salute what has been run up the flag pole? That this is a check-mate move in the conspiracy?

Tony Snow at press conference while under the influence of truth serum…

“The Vice President understands that allowing the Scooter to spend even one day in a jail cell is too great a risk in terms of a potential “jail house confession” that would surely directly implicate him and his pet monkey. Recognizing this unblemished reality, the Vice President provided a decision menu to the monkey who responded as trained.

Let me also preemptively address the question of the President’s continued support for the Attorney General. He will NOT, under any circumstances, request the resignation of Mr. Gonzales. That position is dictated by the same concern about what Mr. Gonzales may reveal if he begins to doubt that we have his back. It’s also clear that recent developments jeopardizing the complete politicization of the Justice Department are gaining momentum. Therefore, we are hereby advising that, in the event Fredo is somehow subjected to charges and convicted by a jury; the White House will, once again, exercise the discretionary powers of the office to insure that the prescribed sentence is not excessive.

I now respectfully request that you, members of the media, return to the roles this administration has come to expect of you and drop this line of inquiry”.

Guilty as charged. Guilty of cover-up.

Just as Federal fellon No. 28301-016 was convicted in a Court by a Republican judge and his sentence to Scooter-016 was upheld unanimously by a review of judges made up with a Republican majoriy, Republicans in Congress need to follow the lead -016's suppression of evidence clearly points to -- his masters misters cheney and bush.

Is Tony Snow also knowingly misleading the American voter?
