Dear Salon Readers

Hillary is in the same league as Ann Coulter.

Sincerely,

Tim Grieve

But really, don't you like how Tim conflates the two stories and then throws plausable deniability in there by saying the two stories don't rise to the same level?

It reminds me of a group of people who say we are in Iraq to seek justice against those who attacked us on 9/11, but they aren't saying Iraq had anything to do with 9/11.

In other words, Tim knows 41% of the public will believe the main crux of his implication. Hillary equates to Ann Coulter. If Tony Snow ever needs to spend more time with his family, there will be a job waiting for Tim.

$400 haircut

Hillary's people would be very foolish to attack Edwards on the basis of his $400 haircut. Does anybody remember the Bill Clinton fiasco, keeping a plane waiting, for his over $200 haircut in California a few years ago?

And good for Elizabeth Edwards

Hooray for Elizabeth Edwards. As for the fundraising, what are you fishing for, rueful shakes of the head from all of us? That kind of no-brainer prediction just keeps it about the horse race, doesn't it?

Edwards vs. Coulter, Clinton

Edwards is at some point going to have to address how his personal wealth and lifestyle mesh with his two America message, but there isn't anything wrong with Elizabeth using Coulter's attacks and the Edward's campaign willingness to go up against that type of speech to raise funds. Coulter tried to pre-empt that by suggesting that's exactly what would happen (and thus would be wrong). Good for them for not caring simply how it would look. Edwards does need money, but what's interesting to me, is running this far behind in the money race and polls, he's the one taking the heat. I think he scares the right the most--not only with his message, but in that world I think it's unimaginable for anyone other than a white male to be a serious threat. So maybe he's the decoy, but right now I'm going with him precisely because he's scaring people I don't like.

Glad someone finally stood up to that harpy

Good for Elizabeth Edwards! Maybe this will encourage Coulter's other targets to rip her a new one. And why shouldn't she use it for fundraising? Any other Democratic candidate would have done the same in her place.

Urgh

Edwards should push (poll) back: "Does it make you less likely or more likely to vote for Hillary Clinton, knowing that Vince Foster died mysteriously?"

I'm not giving money until I hear his drug policy

Look, we have to let drunk drivers go to home detention in LA because the county does not have the financial resources to punish drunk driving and babysit the 10,000 drug users they incarcerate every year.

I am not financing this stupidity any more.

I'm in despair

I love Elizabeth Edwards, but the constant linking of any insult to an immediate request for a donation turns me off. What I don't understand is how the Edward's campaign lets all the talk about John being a millionaire with a big house go unanswered. At least he earned his millions--he didn't inherit his money or have the money and opportunlties handed to him. How about all the other million/billionaire candidates?

And how did we get so ugly? Why do we allow schoolyard bully level taunts to pass for political discussion? What kind of person takes Ann Coulter seriously?

And I don't see one genuine candidate in all this mess. They allow themselves to be wrapped in a putrid Darth- Vader-helmet-like cocoon made by their handlers,consultants,spinners,nip-and-tuck-and-wash-and-wax- polishers and marketing experts. I don't think they know or care what they stand for anymore--they just want to be elected. We are electing prostitutes.

What facing mortality does..

Elizabeth Edwards' request of Coulter is prophetic in nature. She is calling for all of us to think better of ourselves and to cease giving our minds and souls to voices that sound clever but diminish our sensitivity to kindness and compassion. The more we give time and energy to the likes of Coulter, the less of a people we become.

Edwards is facing her morality. As a result she may be more concerned about things that really matter in the time she has left. She knows the lives and well-being of her fellow citizens is what should be debated rather than haircuts or succumbing to hateful speech. Coulter knows we gasp when she speaks. She knows that we are incredulous that someone could have an audience when she routinely pines for the death of people who don't agree with her. Whatever malady that afflicts her is what enables her to effortlessly create speech that is dripping with the wholesale disregard of the feelings and needs of others. Elizabeth Edwards has more important things to think about--such as what kind of nation her children will call home once she is no longer with them.

@Anonymous

Please stop with the drug talk. It must be you who continually writes the same shit in every column that brings up a candidate for president. We get it! Your a drug user who wants drug use to be legal. Drug users in prison is not a big topic among the majority of voters in this country.

Go talk to Bill Maher or that group who wants to make pot legal.

It's getting old after the 5th time I've seen it.

And post under a name while your at it.

Good for Mrs E

It almost makes me wish I watched "Hardball"* just so I could hear her call in and tell Coulter what a piece of crap she is. Maybe it's on YouTube?

About the only thing as satisfying would be to see someone beat the snot out of David Spade. Nothing to do with politics, just because he's David Spade.

*I don't get Comedy Central anymore - is "Crossballs" still on?

Are you kidding me?

Look, I'm no fan of push-polls, but there is an ocean separating the alleged Clinton push-poll to Ann Coulter's Tourette's-induced bile spewing.

There is a world of difference between saying "This man wasted money on his hair: vote for me!" and "This man capitalized on his own son's death" or "I wish this man were dead. Please kill him!"
