Dana Perino on Dick Cheney's secrets.

  • With a straight face

"I think the president thinks that the vice president is a great representer of the United States, and that he complies with all the laws regarding secret documents, classified documents, and that he's someone who truly believes in the institution of the presidency and in keeping that intact."

After saying this, Dana Perrino excused herself because she had to go to the bathroom and vomit. Seriously, how do these people make it through the day? I mean, the sheer volume of bullshit is enough to drown a small third-world country. The strain of having to say these kind of things with a straight face must be overwhelming.

... on the other hand, I think the biggest problem is that much of the world thinks that Dick Cheney is a "great representer of the United States" and they hate us accordingly. If Dick Cheney ran, say, Great Britain (Booji forbid!) we'd be hating Great Britain with equal passion. Wouldn't we?

  • Trust who?

The White House expects us to trust them on keeping sensitive material secret, by not allowing oversight of the material?

In other words, stonewall the oversight people until the little problem of Dick Cheney's obsessive mania for secrecy goes underground a little more.

The Executive Branch happens to be one of the three branches of this government. It is not the sole branch to decide what is right and wrong, even though the president and vice-president seem to think otherwise.

Why can't we just impeach the both of them for subverting the Constitution? It's obvious they have repeatedly, without any great bother about legalities; this is just another instance of "we're the deciders, and you're not".

  • That's true

Not only does Cheney believe in protecting the presidency, he believes in giving a president king-like powers. You'll find no stronger proponent of the presidency.

It's just that his plans basically destroy our Constitution, but, you know. He's a great representer.

  • Let me boil this down for you:

The White House spokesperson tells the press the president never intended special treatment for the VP's office.

The VP's office tells the President: "Fuck you, we don't need no stinkin' badges."

The President is too afraid of Dick's errant 12 gauge to do jackshit about it.

    Move along . . . nothing to see here . . .

  • It's called "lying", Dana...

They are held in the archives as part of the Presidential Records Act. And all of those rules and regulation are followed.

Sure they are. Unless those records are emails, logs of visitors to Cheney's office, or records of the Energy task force.

  • We are so doomed

    Doomed.

  • Who Knew the VP Was So Powerful?

The guy who lamented that the office wasn't worth a bucket of warm spit obviously wasn't trying hard enough.

  • Charley McCarthy had better dummies than Bush, Snow and Peraino ... but then he was a ventriloquist ...

How do we get Cheney out of safety of his darkened lair?

  • Smoke alarm

*koff koff koff* So much smoke. Can't breathe. Can't see.

I'm still trying to parse this one...

I don't think that there's any -- think there's been any complaint about compliance except for, in this regard, to the vice president's office

That whole "except for, in this regard, to the" is clunky and confusing. Is "Super-Tricky Dick" Cheney upholding the law by breaking it?

    *koff koff*

  • Scooter Is Our Best Hope

If we can figure out what Scooter was up to, what he was trying to hide... If Scooter lets a few hints slip, we may be able to nail Cheney.

Cursed are the bullshitters, for they shall eat shit and die.

  • What's Worse?

Honestly, I can't decide which is worse: that Bush knows that his Vice President is behaving this way, and supports it, or that he doesn't know, and is ignorant of Cheney's actions. Either way, frankly, is pretty scary.

  • How can there be anybody left in this country...

... who hasn't figured out just who is and who isn't running the White House? I still read posts of "But we'd have to impeach Cheney first or else he'd be President!" How can anybody not know that Bush has always been a mindless puppet? Cheney was the head of the Vice Presidential Search Committee and chose himself, for crying out loud! How could you miss what that meant???

The Republicans always tell you exactly what they're doing even before they start to do it. What they're doing and how they're doing it is almost never in question. Why they're allowed to get away with it, however, is the question of the century.

  • What we should EXPECT?!?!

Reporter: Why? [Cheney]'s a public servant, paid by us. He's accountable.

Perino: And all the laws and regulations regarding classified materials are being complied with. And that's what you as a taxpayer should expect.

How dare they. How dare they tell US what we should expect from THEM. But do we expect anything less from these narcissistic, secretive, band of thieves? These charlatans that prance about patriotism and then piss on our constitution. "That's what you as a taxpayer should accept."? Lady, check your facts. You're paid by me, and you're accountable to me. And the way that you're accountable to me is by being accountable to Congress. Congress wants records. Provide them, or go to jail. It's simple. I say send the snarling, dark beast to prison for the rest of its unnatural life.

  • To quote that great conservative and Republican saint, Ronnie Reagan...

..."Trust, but verify." No elected officials in this democratic republic get a free pass. NONE.

There has got to be a frickin' smoking CANNON being hidden somewhere in the bowels of the Vice President's office, not just your garden variety smoking gun. Would anyone go to such extremes to protect himself if he didn't have something highly illegal and/or immoral that dare not be revealed?

  • I think I'm gonna puke

If not from the whole notion that we are supposed to simply trust these people, then because I'm a little dizzy from all the spinning this chick was doing.

It's been a while since we had anyone in the White House who thought of themselves as a public servant, but up until now they at least felt accountable, to greater or lesser degrees.

How could anything that can't be seen by people with the highest possible security clearance possibly be good? What knowledge of security does Bush have that would make me feel better that he has "decidered" that he is in complete charge of document security for the government?

What the fuck is wrong with these people?
