The good news about George W. Bush

Tony Snow on the bad things the president hasn't done.

The letters thread is now closed.

That's So Messed Up

But what else can one expect from this administration?

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 12:56 PM

Since Snow actively denied it...

...I presume that very shortly we will discover video of Bush binding people's hands behind their backs and throwing them from rooftops. And of course the MSM will ignore the story when it breaks, though Sean Hannity et. al. will declare breathlessly, "If the president DIDN'T bind their hands and throw them from the roof, the terrorists would have already won."

Why the hell not?

I mean, with an idea like that being right on the tip of his tongue like that, it must've been considered as an option. Maybe even discussed and debated by the powers that be--to the extent that there's ever any disagreement with that crowd. Maybe by "deciding" not to, Bush overruled Cheney, who certainly would've thought it was a swell idea. I wonder what stopped the president? Just so Tony Snow could brag about his restraint in front of the press gaggle?

Thanks Tony

...for that clear definition of how far the bar has been lowered. I think it's actually an underground cable now.

Whatever happened to the Democracy Agenda?

In all seriousness, though, what became of the president's belief that democracy is the cure for whatever it is that ails the Ay-rabs. Bush conspicuously and willfully failed to support or work with Hamas, the democratically-elected governing party in the Palestinian territories. Now, he is openly supporting a governing entity selected by Mahmoud Abbas, but elected by no one. What message about democracy are the Palestinian people in particular, and the Arab states in general supposed to take from this turn of events?

So, literally speaking, the Snowjob is correct: Bush did not physically throw anybody off of a roof; but he did throw the Palestinians' democratically-elected government under the bus.

Heckuva job.

Read between the lines

Snow says: "The president of the United States did not masquerade around with masks pulled over the face and slay people who disagreed with Hamas."

He's not saying the President never masqueraded around with a mask on, slaying people. He's just saying that the President never did it to people who disagreed with Hamas.

I love...

our high standards for presidential behavior.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:25 PM

Guilty conscience

The specificity about not having done this to Hamas does make it sound like he's admitting to having done it to someone else -- perhaps it's a Skull-and-Bones thing...

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:26 PM

What else did Bush not do today?

The curious thing would seem to be that Tony Snow believes that someone might actually think the president is capable of wearing a mask and throwing someone off a building and so he feels obliged to deny that. However, I would note that Tony Snow did not say that no one was thrown off a building for disagreeing with Bush or Cheney, only not for disagreeing with Hamas. It certainly would have made for an interesting follow-up.

He's right, you know

Tony Snow is on to something. We should be glad that the President of the United States isn't doing any of those things.

Seriously, we SHOULD be glad. In a more innocent time, we took it for granted that presidents or their agents wouldn't do those sorts of things. Heck, in those days we didn't even think about the possibility that our Presidents would personally resort to terroristic violence. But of course the world changed after 9/11/2001. Or was that 1/20/2001?

Maybe the current President of the United States just hasn't had the time to slash throats and drop victims from buildings. I mean, he's President and all. I'm sure he's got a busy schedule.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:34 PM

How do we know for SURE he didn't do any of those awful things?

After all - he lied about WMD's and an Iraqi/al-Qaeda link in order to get us into a in elective war. 650,000 Iraqis have died. 3,500 American troops, with 30,000 wounded.

And a professionally paid liar - Tony Snow - is telling us the bad things Bush hasn't done. What with Snow's credibility - this may actually be an indictment.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:35 PM

How the fuck...

is this Bush's responsibility? hamas takes this hook line and sinker.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:36 PM

That's mighty big of him....

It's good to know that "Otis Potus" isn't murdering people with his bare hands. Talk about the "soft bigotry of lowered expectations...."

As opposed to my moral betters at Salondotcom

Who will object a little to things like that, but not too too much. Hey Bush is a evil moron. But most of you are evil smarties. Some fucking beauty contest.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 01:48 PM

Twisted logic

I guess that Snow's explanation can be seen as stating that Bush's stance is that his foreign policies have no consequences in the world so long as he himself is not a part of the manifestation of those consequences. Think of little boy who throws rocks at a hornet nest. If kids nearby get stung, then, by Bush's position as articulated by Mr. Snow, the little boy can declare that their pain was not his fault so long as he was not stinging them himself.

That makes no sense, and is not morally justifiable, and neither is Mr. Snow's answer to the question.

And While We're Making Lists

Here are some other bad things the President hasn't done:

-- Shot up a Wal-Mart

-- Made his daughters put on their panties and GET REAL JOBS and stop IMing him during "meetings" with Condie in the Lincoln Bedroom (oops, I've said too much)

-- Given away the top-secret ending to the last Harry Potter blockbuster novel

-- Substituted the fine coffee served at Le Bernardin for Folger's Crystals (tm) (or was that kitty litter? It all tastes the same to Bush when he's hammered.... Oops, I've said too much again)

-- Beaten Laura, no matter how much the Zombie Cow has it coming to her (but WAIT TILL TONIGHT, MISSIE!!)

-- Broken up the Beatles (Hey Yoko, ever wonder what summer at Gitmo was like?!)

-- Revealed Victoria's Secret

-- Deflowered either of the Olsen Twins (cuz let's face it, isn't sex with a Bush ALWAYS a bad thing?!)

-- Assassinated the Kaiser Wilhelm

-- Brought down the Hindenburg

-- Poured poison into Hamlet's father's ears

-- Shot the Sheriff or the Deputy

Thank the gods Tony Snow is on the job clearing these things up.

at the risk of being too bloody obvious...

...it strikes me that this is a road Tony Snow definitely does not want to go down, ya know?
