Letters to the Editor

Who cares.
Just remember congress, your job is to roll over completely and not make waves. You know, just like you've done til now.
We all had such high hopes. Turns out you were just bullshitting us and you must have all had a great laugh when we realised you were all impotent at even the smallest task.
Now go back to crying and wetting the bed and leave us all alone for the remainder of your terms.
-
But...
...Leahy says Congress "will keep asking until we get to the truth." The WH must be terrified!
-
What are the possible next steps?
If, as expected, the White House stalls on this request what are the next possible steps? I can think of two but I don't know if they are able to be implemented:
- Power of impeachment. Not of Bush, necessarily, but of Gonzales or Rove?
- Power of the purse. Can Congress punitively restrict funding of the apparatchiks in the White House? I'd love to see Rove and Mier's salary set to a Congressionally mandated $6.35 and hour.
-
I predict...
they'll testify and it will get liberals all frothy but won't amount to anything that can be prosecuted.
-
Gah...
Does anyone remember Watergate? Do you think it happened overnight? It was the slow, steady drip of supoenas and investigations that finally did the trick. What do you think, the Democrats can manufacture a veto-proof majority overnight?
Frankly I don't know if this group of Dems is up to the challenge. I don't know if we can fix the Republic. I do know that it's not going to be easy, or quick.
-
All right.
Now, let the for real games begin...
-
I Just Can't Understand ...
why Junior feels the need to claim executive privilege. I mean, what's so sensitive about "I'm sorry Senator/Congresman, but I can't recall" anyway?
-
Tiberius
I predict...

Agree. The witnesses will either lie their asses off, Libby style, or suffer form the epidemic of amnesia going through the WH.
-
What about gutless Dems is supposed to worry the WH?
How about....NOTHING?
-
Scarier than you think
A contempt of congress charge would be prosecuted by the.... you guessed it, (in)Justice Department. The administration surely knows this, and that's why they are stonewalling, because they can get away with it, having replaced the DOJ mostly with hacks with "law" degrees ripped directly out of the bible. There are also a whole lot of members of the Federalist Society, a radical "think" tank that believes essentially in a King, and wouldn't mind a King George II one little tiny bit.
But what happens when this administration leaves office? What if the next administration is Democratic, or at the least Republican with some slight sense of ethics?
Suddenly that contempt charge gets resurrected. Suddenly a lot of things start happening differently, and investigations start leading where Bush and acolytes don't want them to go. It's a completely incredible notion that they haven't thought this through. I think they have.
Are you starting to get the drift? I'd make sure your passport is up to date.
