Fred Thompson

As soon as I saw HBO's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", I realized why Fred Thompson was waiting to make a decision about the presidency. He was in the production and obviously HBO wasn't going to risk not being able to air the film. I would imagine that was part of his contract.

Arthur Branch as President?

"Formidable candidate"? Because he is an actor with name and face recognition? Hopefully, this time, Americans will el;ect someone with the credentials and experience to be the head of the U.S., instead of another empty suit such as Thompson.

His resume is wafer-thin: one term in the Senate and zero foreign policy experience. His ethics are problematic: he was a lobbyist for 17 years. He is a war-monger, and the public is tired of endless wars.

Another actor as president?

So now a person who makes a living pretending to be someone he's not, is running for President.

What is it about modern politics, that people prefer shadow to substance? Are they that jaded by politics that they will vote for someone who merely looks competent?

Reagan II ?

Was the first one not enough to kill the taste for Hollywood in Washington? I would prefer the West Wing gang. On second thought, anyone would be better then Rudy.

Fred Thompson is an idiot, but...

Don't discount the ability of actors to hold public office, even the presidency. alot of actors are intelligent, well spoken people who aren't afraid to voice their opinions in a cogent, thought out manner. Ironically enough, because our training teaches us to be emotionally open, actors, (offstage of course) can be some of the most genuine people you'll meet. Overdramatic at times, sure. And we drink like fish. But, on the whole, we can't discount someone simply because their career is considered "unsavory" by some. There's no rule that a president has to be a lawyer or a doctor, and if someone can be a force for positive change in the world, then we shouldn't discount their ability to hold public office. (Full disclaimer, I'm an actor, duh, who's always had a yearning to hold public office). and you'd be surprised how many lawyers have theatre as their bachelor's degree.

Granted, Thompson's an idiot who's going to use his, "Tough guy" persona to out-hard ass the hard asses Giuliani and McCain. And he's a crappy Reagan wannabe. And he's...well...not so bright. And we shouldn't vote for him. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I mean, certain exterminators from Sugarland were terrible politicians, but we're not talking about eliminating exterminators from public office, right?

I don't think we'll have to wait too long

to see Rudy in drag. Those photos will be circulating right after the primaries begin and the Brownbacks of the world wanting an "edge". Personally I think he looks better in a tight fitting dress than in those lie infested power suits. Nonetheless it's hard to cover-up a liar no matter what he/she is wearing. I also think the lipstick is a nice touch Rudy. I bet if your your parents are alive that they are really proud...

Thompson's 15 minutes...

...will be up when the country at large gets a look at that wife of his.

She's 25 years younger than he is and looks like a stripper. An unattractive stripper.

Unless Thompson can win without any female votes, he's toast. The women whose votes he would hope to win as a Republican candidate are going to be appalled when they get a load of her. Since he only has style in his favor, anything that disrupts that style is a big liability, and boy howdy, does she interrupt his style.
