When did the Secret Service become a branch of the RNC?

When I was a kid I remember reading one of those young-readers books about the duties and the adventures of the Secret Service in battling counterfeiting and in protecting the president from various whackos. There was no indication in the book that they varied the intensity of their work according to who was in the White House.

In the Clinton years the Secret Service seems to have had no problem with letting people at pubic appearances heckle Clinton, or in having agents shoot off their mouths about Clinton supposedly going out to hotels for sexual adventures. Fast forward to the Bush years and the Secret Service shreds records of who visited the Veep, or arrests senior citizens who dare to hold a hand-lettered cardboard placard that has the P-word (peace) on it while the president's armored SUV rumbles by.

Nice use of our tax dollars.

perp walk

I'm having real trouble imagining a greater pleasure in life than watching Richard Cheney do a perp walk in an orange jump-suit.

There are greater pleasures, of course, but that one would be right at the top of the list.

He won't, but if there were any justice in this world, he would. As one of the world's single most contemptible human beings, it is a bit of a wonder why Congress hasn't at least started impeachment hearings against Cheney. Who would want to protect him? And with approval ratings in single digits, where's the political danger in so doing?

I don't get that one, and I never will.

When you run the joint

you do what you want. We serve , like lap dogs, to darth Cheney's "pleasure". He is king. He is emperor, he is a minor demigod. He is an ass hole...

Typical Cheney

Remember the summit on energy policy that Cheney held? We were not allowed to know who atended and what the energy policy of our own country is, although I guess that Iraq was often mentioned. Now we are not allowed to know who visits "the decider for the decider." This administration is shot through with paranoia.

Cheneys visitors

What is he worried about? Could it have been visits by Ambassador Wilson? Or may be those who blew the cover of the ambassadors wife? And they call that democracy?

I forgot

I wonder if the Enron gang was on those lists? Or may be others like them?

My bet?

My money is on Jeff Gannon figuring prominently, probably in a full dress Marine uniform and carrying a sack of new born babies for Cheney to feast on.

Dictatin Away

This will all be unnecessary after George Whore Bush becomes king and Chancellor Cheney becomes his richest and most powerful overlord. We will have no rights and will be punished for speaking out against them.

Enjoy what few freedoms we have before the dems completely sell out........

PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS ACT?

I didn't know the VP was protected by the Presidential Records Act? Well, I guess this pretty much tells us what we've know all the time: Cheney considers himself the president. And....worse.....he is!

One word.

One word. Jeff Gannon. OK two words. It's Jeff Gannon. Um, Among the words...

Okay, I Admit I Visited Cheney...

Last year, I went to his office, and showed him how to tie a proper hangman's noose. He thanked me, and gave me a buck and a quarter tip.

All you other Salon Posters who have visited Cheney, please tell us about it, and we can dispense with these pesky subpoenas and official records.
