It's Going to Be a Long 612 Days

If these guys hadn't spent the 6+ years screwing us over, I'd feel kind of sorry for them.

Mind Boggling

I can't believe I just read that entire transcript excerpt. Orwell would be impressed.

At last. Reporters doing their jobs well.

There should have been this feet to the fire type of questioning all along.

This gun is smoking. There should be no let up on the President and his Attorney General.

I have been soooo wrong all along

"He's focused on the mission of the Department of Justice, which is to keep Americans safe, protect us from domestic terrorism threats, child predators"

All this time I thought the mission of the Justice Department was to ensure fair application of the law of the land, and ensuring, waddya call it...justice!

I'm glad to discover that in reality they are focused on protecting me from domestic terrorists and child predators, which are, after all, the things most likely to affect my day to day life!

Well...

...that depends on what your definition of "fact" is...

Man, these people are so guilty, their LAWYERS would probably go to jail just for representing them. Whew.

Since I didn't vote for any of 'em (and I DID vote for the members of Congress that are currently wielding subpoena power), so I wash my hands of the whole deal. Anybody in the world who has a problem with Americans, I will refer to the 50.5% of us that voted for these bastards.

Now is the time to start pushing...

My suggestion would be to play politics with the war (boo) in exchange for removing Gonzo and Rove and also give him the immigration bill.

Realistically until the Repubs abandon him on this the debate will go nowhere, but in a few months the Repub WILL abandon him (cuz it's not like things are going to get better in Iraq). Meanwhile we clear the decks of the scum and at least get someone normal as the AG - something which could be considered as EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!.

Identifying the Questioners in the Transcripts

Is there any way to identify the reporters asking the particular questions? I like to contact them when possible and give compliments, so that they know they have viewer support and can use that in the case of intimidation by their bosses (job security).

You're Doing A Heckuva Job, Gonzie!

The attorney general has the full confidence of the president. He's focused on the mission of the Department of Justice, which is to keep Americans safe, protect us from domestic terrorism threats, child predators.
What we are focusing on, what we think the attorney general is focusing on is the mission of the Department of Justice. I haven't heard anyone say that the Department of Justice has been weak in enforcing child predator laws. I haven't heard anyone say that the Department of Justice has been anything short of strong and aggressive in protecting America from domestic terrorism threats.

Hot damn!

Not one child predator has crashed an airliner into Disneyland! I'd say Abu G is ready for the Supreme Court about now.

Stopping child predators from crashing hijacked airliners into Disneyland? Check!

Enforcing the Voting Rights Act? Not so much.

First, Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Amendments? Not so much.

And, on the reporters' side, we've made great strides in actually asking questions that the White House didn't write for you in advance.

Now can we move onto Reporting 101, Session #2: "Asking Followup Questions"?

Friday, May 18, 2007 01:56 PM

When The Going Gets Tough...

... drag the children into it. After all no one wants to see children get hurt. Sure they have absolutely nothing to do with any of the problems currently plaguing Gonzales and Co but they probably think people will drop this and let the DoJ go after the predators.

This "Think of the children" crap that politicians pull out whenever they want to get their way annoys me to no end. It's almost as bad as mentioning 9/11 just to get your way.

To: All Journalists Represented in this transcript

...and any others in the White House Press Corps.

THIS is what needs to be done continuously from this day forth for all administrations. Pin them to the wall, keep asking until their bullshit is so self evident that no one can deny the perversity of the administration.

If future administrations perform their duties admirably, then they should still be subject to this sort of questioning so that they're good works go just as well noticed as the iggregious crimes of this twisted band of lunatics.

Friday, May 18, 2007 02:21 PM

Impossible to get around certain questions

"is there any possibility that Mr. Comey will be charged with divulging classified information"

That is the question which highlights the administration's run-around for, say, the 50% of Americans who don't catch on quickly or try to defend against "liberal" criticisms. You can't BS around it with dignity intact.

The Decency Aspect

These creeps went to the poor guy while he was in the hospital in serious condition!

Newt Gingrich is supposed to have done the same thing with his wife, involving a divorce.

These people have no concept of basic decency. They have risen much further than they should have. All they have is a certain assured tone of voice, a command of resonant cliches, and hootspa-born-of-ignorance.

Let's send them all to Guantanamo!

Friday, May 18, 2007 02:51 PM

The next AG can do a good job on child predators too.

Gonzales must resign. Every thing the Dems do right now should be focused upon getting him to resign. I believe that this is actually more important than the war. I believe Gonzales may be protecting the President from further investigation into impeachable offenses.

Think we should impreach Bush?

Think how much damage he can still do to The Constitution in his remaining time.

volleys de rigeur

honestly, it doesnt seem like even with the balls the white house correspondents seem to have regrown, that it makes much of a difference in the answers to their questions. i havent heard much since 2001 from a white house press secretary that wasnt a reformulation of "no comment". i remember when scott mcclellan said, after finally, finally being put to the coals over a scandal among scandals (was it katrina?), he said "youve really taken a lot out of me these past couple of days". this, a sign that bushs 9/11 card had finally expired.

so the correspondents have had some chutzpah for a bit now, but like the proverbial horse, with the water and the thirst, you can ask the white house press secretary a question, but you cant make him answer. these ridiculous volleys have become de rigeur, and everyone involved knows it.

the solution? aside from electing a dem in '08, id say a press boycott of the daily briefing would send a message. but then the white house would surely stuff the empty chairs in the briefing room with jeff gannons. im afraid there are no easy solutions for an administration thats by its nature opaque. except impeachment.
