  • Compare McClatchy and AP on this story

McClatchy came out with a story this morning with a chart detailing, on a state by state basis, the shortages in National Guard heavy equipment. Instead of simply "reporting" the statements of government sources, they clearly did a lot of legwork and poke a few holes in the claims that the little equipment that remains is being repositioned to prepare for hurricane season. The AP story simply quotes Tony Snow's questioning of Sabelius and his attempt to place the blame on her. Much lower in the story, they do allude to Sabelius pointing out deficiencies in December, but the damage intended to be inflicted by the Bushies is accomplished through the misleading statements from Snow receiving top billing and most of the text.

  • Tony's back

Well, it is grand that Tony Snow is feeling well enough to come back to work. Dana Perino simply could not be counted on to lie as reflexively and with the kind of conviction that Tony can muster without breaking a sweat.

  • It's all just a giant game of chicken

Buck, buck, BUUUUUUUCK! Who's got the buck?

The buck stops ANYWHERE but on this President's desk. Harry Truman must be spinning right about now.

His daughter Margaret is still alive and apparently well, according to Wikipedia -- bet she could offer a choice comment or two about the contrast between her father (the original Straight Talker) and the Current Occupant!

  • And didn't Kansas vote pretty overwhelmingly for W?

In both elections? Hmmm. Speaking of chickens, could they be coming home to roost?

  • RE: McClatchy vs. AP versions, thank you Jim White.

Yet another glaring example of lazy stenography by the AP.

  • We're all getting used to the lies, but...

...it's about time that the news covered the fact that this administration just makes shit up about issues they claim to care about.

Saying that Snow or any other Bush official "got the facts wrong," or even that they are "misleading," is not the same as reporting, as fact, that they are "chronic liars."

An administration that would smear a governor about the National Guard just to buy some time in the news cycle is very different than an administration that just fucks up occasionally, or even often.

  • It's your fault

If you, gov, had only known that God's rightous wrath might have laid low the sinners in your midst, maybe you should have requested your National Guard and equipment didn't go to Iraq. I'm sure during our surging had you only asked us and said pretty please we would have gladly misled Congress to let your people and tractors and other equipment stay. We do that all the time. Just ask Lousiana and Mississippi. You didn't and you have no one to blame but yourself.

Oh don't even try to point out that we would have ignored you for the sake of security. Our national interests are at stake, guv, if your Guard and equipment weren't getting blown up over their you would be getting blown up over here! Imagine, your guard attacked by militant Islamofascist tornados! I bet you can't, guv. That's why we have a decider, a commander guy, and you are just a public servant of no longer existent towns.

Next time you even think of complaining about our great works in defense of your now homeless people I hope you seriously consider how useful your government town car would be as it drives me from market to market pointing out how free these Iraqi people are. They are free, guv, because their homes and markets weren't devestated by God the way yours were. I suggest you remember that the next time you complain.

    Love and rightious kisses,

    Tony Snow

  • I just want to remind them

That where they live is called Tornado Alley. Me thinks yall shoulda known what might happen. The Gubmint aint your babysitter fo all the bad decisions you make. And when you rebuild, guess what hayseeds? Yall still be in Tornado Alley.

  • Guess what not your real name

Though I'm sure it begins with "dumbass."

Knowing they live in Tornado Alley, Kansas and the pre Bush Weather service developed all sorts of warning systems. It is why the death toll is so low. They received a 30 minute warning that a tornado was approaching and a 15 minute warning that the tornado was approaching their town. This gave the majority of people time to get to shelter instead of being killed without the slightest sense of what was going on.

It is also because Kansas's notorious tornado alley that it used what state dollars it could to build up the people and equipment necessary to come to their citizen's rescue. What they didn't count on, which had never happened before this, was that the government would seize their men and equipment and hold and destroy and let them be killed over a four year period and an additional number of years to which the government will never commit to any end.

Yeah, they sure are hayseeds, unlike you who sit fat, drunk and lazy rooting on people with the only threat to your stupid lifestyle is if you ever accidently switched from FOX to some other station you might see that destruction Dubya (your God) warned us about.

Wherever you live, unless it is a cave, which is highly possible, you may be subject to the effects of nature. When that happens take comfort that no rescue will come for you because they are working so hard dying to ensure that some terrorist wasn't hiding under your bed.

  • LOL

I rememeber all my better angels lambasting those miserables in N.O. about how they should have known they were living below sea level. Yeah well sucks to be you, hayseeds.

Back in 99 when Hurriflood Floyd innundated the eastern third of NC it was the rich beachfront vacation home owners who got first dibs on aid and access to Federal money to allow them to rebuild exactly where they started. But for all the farms and small businesses inland that were destroyed, the state, the Federal government, and frankly, the media too, were all about how those people should just pick up and move. Well what's good for the goose....and screw the hayseeds.

  • BTW dear heart

I'm waaaaay more leftwing than you. I'm practically Emma Goldman. But thanks for playing. See this is what I love about Salon. It's almost entirely populated by people who are so dull and so hidebound that they automatically hear their own hatred for everyone else bouncing around in their own heads as if those are the actually words other people are speaking.

Salon is a blog, plain and simple. Just call DailyKos and embed this site in that one.
