@Art

I presume you were referring to the reader responses to Doolittle's op-ed in the Auburn Journal - not one is favorable in the least. I particularly like the guy who, referring to the daily reporting of untoward events, challenged the Congressman to name a date in recent memory that wouldn't be coincidental with some other Administration scandal.

Thanks rustyaustin and skyeman!

That helped!

Doolittle's constituents reply

Be sure to read the reader comments.

That was a better wrap than the ones I have looking at . The little associations percolating around this distinguished lady and gentlman provide some small view of what was the holy ground of the one thousand year reich . This of course was not free from DOJ involvement as the Marianas was the the first thrust of the coercive criminal control of events . Good bye and good luck Mr Mrs Doolittle .

He has been worthy of scrutiny for quite awhile

Excerpt from AP's report of Doolittle stepping down from his spot on the Appropriations Committee:'That would be the same appropriations seat which he used to help steer $37 million to Brent Wilkes (who's accused of bribing Duke Cunningham), and another $400,000 to Jack Abramoff's client, the government of the Marianas Islands.'

Excerpt from TPMmuckraker article:

Former Doolittle Aide Resigns from Lobby Firm

By Paul Kiel

'Ring, who worked as a lobbyist with Abramoff from 2000 until Abramoff was forced to close up shop in 2004, has come up again and again over the course of the Abramoff investigation. But he had a singular and important role in Abramoff's organization -- he was Abramoff's access to Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA), for whom Ring had been a senior staffer. Whenever Abramoff wanted Doolittle's help with anything -- and that happened often --, Ring was the man.

But Abramoff, being Abramoff, didn't expect help for nothing. And so it was Ring who served as the intermediary when Abramoff hired Doolittle's wife for consulting work, an arrangement that lasted for approximately two years. The payments suspiciously align with actions Doolittle took on behalf of Abramoff's clients.

Doolittle has been in investigators' sights since 2005. But it looks like they're finally closing in -- because if anyone could deliver Doolittle, it would be Ring.'

The Sacramento Bee recently published a multi-part expose of the activities that both Doolittle and his wife have been involved in over the past several years. Most striking to my eye were reports of the tremendous support he gave to legislative efforts to secure gaming rights for a tribe that was an Abramoff client, and asistance to the Marianas Is. government.

Striking in that, his constituency lives in El Dorado Co. CA.

His wife has worked at lobbying firms soliicting the Congressman's support, she until recently was paid a nice salary by his campaign, which is a legally questionable use of campaign contributions.

I haven't cared for him for years due to the fact that he has insisted that the only flood control project he'll back for our area is a massive dam located on an active seismic fault; a project that voters have rejected numerous times. Because his pet project did not get the green light, he has used his committee standing to block any flood control funding for the Sacramento Valley, which is currently ringed with badly decaying levees constructed 150 years ago.

The investigation into his activities predates the Nov. 2006 elections by two years. I was really hoping an indictment would have been nailed to his door prior to his narrow reelection.

To Jill S

Doolittle has a history of compromised ethics, corruption, campaign violation fines, and just plain biliousness stretching back over 3 decades...why people have continued to vote for him all these years says a lot your average California republican voter IQ.

Poor poor Julie

I believe this is about Julie directly, not John. She's the one who collects 15% of every contribution. Nice pay for doing nothing but signing your name!

As for the timing, heck, there is so much slime being uncovered daily that ANY day would been coincident with one of them. Take your pick, John, you'll always have a timing excuse as long as your party remains in power.

But Doolittle...

...If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about. There's no way that an innocent man could get sent to jail on trumped-up charges with a Republican in power. Certainly you will be vindicated in full if you didn't do anything wrong.

Monday, May 7, 2007 11:43 AM

don't attack, I'm on your side

But I was just wondering about this guy, I don't know anything about him. I need some more context other than that he's a Republican. Besides this search and leak, do we have a sense as to whether this guy is guilty? (I mean, like with the Duke-Stir journalists and pundits had been talking about what a crook he was even before he was investigated. Anything like that?)

Because I'm a true progressive, but I can't necessarily assume a guy is guilty of corruption just because he's a Republican. Guilty of intolerance, hypocrisy, and lack of judgement, maybe, but...

Monday, May 7, 2007 10:09 AM

Of course Republicans are innocent until proven guilty, Mr. Doolittle

Too bad, the same isn't true for nonUS citizens rendered off airplanes and street corners, US citizens who like like terrorists, and Democratic officials being investigated by DOJ, whose names are somehow leaked to the press.

Jack Abramoff

needs a cell mate. Maybe they can make it a triptych and throw in Gonzo for laughs. What intelligent conversation would ensue, especially during those long lonley nights staring out of the bars...

Monday, May 7, 2007 09:36 AM

There's an opportunity here

If the Republicans will trample each other in an attempt to survive, let's encourage them. If Doolittle thnks he's being used by Gonzales, let's urge him to support Gonzales' impeachment. If Gonzales will push the delayed investigations of other Republicans, let's give him a day of not being the center of attention. If they turn on each other, we can get rid of a bunch of crooks.

Though Torture Boy Gonzales is the one above all I want gone.

Awwwww ... poor John

He feels violtated. They wouldn't let his wife go to the bathroom without an escort. Welcome to the world you created for everybody else Mr. Dolittle. I'd love to know where came down on the illegal wire taps. Many of his Constitution shredding Republican cronies were babling something about not having anything to worry about if you didn't do anything wrong. Now you're reaping what you sowed.
