Coincidentally...
Now, according to ABC News, reports that al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri has been killed are "unconfirmed and part of a misinformation campaign."
This is the same Abu Ayyub al-Masri who was reportedly wounded in a firefight the day before Congress held a vote on a resolution opposing Bush's escalation strategy. That report was later found to be false as well.
Al-Masri sure seems to be in the news when Bush needs the whole al-Qaeda-in-Iraq played up doesn't he?

He's been on TV "before the nation" more this year than all previous years combined. Sounds like desperation to me.

One historical truth applies here
There is no better way to unite a divided people than to give them a common enemy. That's been known for centuries, and was certainly at work in Nazi Germany.
No, I'm NOT calling this administration "a bunch of Nazis" -- others can level that charge if they wish. However, it is a tried-and-true principle of political leadership to find (or invent) a common enemy, keeping up a steady drumbeat of danger, increasing danger, COMPLETE DANGER!
Appealing for unity in the face of a perceived threat has always worked in ages when communication couldn't keep up with fake or overblown threats. Sadly, failures by mainstream media allowed us to be snookered into the Iraq war; it did NOT have to happen. Let's hope this is the last time we go into a war without eyes wide open.

Bush's speech will consist of him putting his thumbs in his ears and wiggling his fingers back and forth while making an extended raspberry for 5 to 10 minutes.
Fade out.
If anyone in the media complains about it, they'll just send Cheney out in the following days to make the "up yours" arm/elbow motion for the cameras a few times, and then they'll quickly rush him back to the safety of his undisclosed location, which is apparently made of question-impervious alloys.
That seems to be about where they stand on this at any rate.

I hope the Networks Actually Carry the Speech
Everytime Bush opens his mouth, his numbers go done. I doubt too many Americans were paying attention this veto so I certainly hope Bush is able to interrupt their shows to remind them that he has no interest in bringing this war to a close, especially on the 4th anniverary after he declared major combat operations over.

Bush on the TeeVee
Bush has never been shy about using public resources to further his political aims (see:Department of Justice) so it's not much of a stretch to think he will do the same with his latest television appearance.
What I don't understand is why broadcasters would preempt their schedules for a political speach. Ok, Fox News I understand.
Personally, I'm waiting for the day Bush goes all Cuckoo-Bananas on live television. Maybe he'll issue a call to arms for all good Christians to rise up against the godless Democrat party.
