The President replaced his Generals. So did another great world leader before him. His name? Adolf Hitler. And he lost his war too.
First of all, our armed forces ARE RUN by the representatives of the people. Our Constitution is set up that way. Obviously, we have to respect the opinions of trained military, but THE PEOPLE - US - are in charge. The president is the commander-in-chief. He is supposed to be the ultimate commander of the military AS THE REPRESENTATIVE of the people. Congress - AS THE REPRESENTATIVES of the people - votes to go to war or not and then votes funds to support it or not. Congress is also charged with the oversight of the Executive Branch to make sure it is doing THE WILL of the people.
Hasn't anyone in this administration read the Constitution lately? A 12-year old understands that the people run the country BY ELECTING the president and the Congress to represent us. We can second guess the military any time we want. We can pull out of a war any time we want. That's our job, to let our representatives know what we want. And we have.
What is George Bush doing according to Dan Bartlett? Giving the power of the executive branch - the commander in chief power - to non-elected military personnel? Why? Why is he hiding behind the military? Why is he dumping responsibility on them? Is he chicken to be in charge since the people have told him what they want and he doesn't want to do it? I mean is that what Bartlett is saying?
Sheeeeessssshhhhh!
Calmer...Clausewitz said "War is a continuation of politics by other means". In the neocon mind, that translates to "soldiers are just diplomats with guns".
Count, on a daily basis, the number of times any official (esp. Cheney and Bartlett) in the Administration uses the expressions "I think the American people want..." or "I don't think the American people want..."
In reality, they not only don't know, they also don't care what "the American people want."
But, as Howard Kurtz said on Bill Moyer's show the other night, "When one of those people wants to speak, our job is to provide a platform for them. I don't mind a bit, it's part of the job."
After all Roi is the Commender and Chef a decorated "W", hero, with Medals given from those who earned them.
After all George was a Member of the National Guard and an Officer "to Boot". He did Two Tours: One in Texas and One in Alabama, recently finishing his Saigon Tour last year.
Roi certainly has a GENERAL KNOWLEDGE.
As George would say in his own behalf "REMEMBER NINE ELEVEN", generally speaking.
just peace institute 7
are the one's who supported and continue to support it...
because it was, is and always will be nothing short of a criminal act, and you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Thank you
A soldier is a diplomat. What we need is a good neocon to English dictionary.
"And I think whatever misgivings the American people have about where we are in the war in Iraq, I don't think they want 535 politicians in Washington to replace the judgment of our top commanders and diplomats on the ground."
OK, I almost fell out of my chair when I read this. Is this White House detached from their own twisted reality that they are actually willing to use the "D" word? I mean they've never actually used THAT "on the ground"...ever...ANYwhere.
What else can Bartlett do? "Yes, the people are against us and we push on."
They have to lie, mislead, bullshit everyday to avoid admitting that they are a fraud. The true outrage is that anyone even shows up at the press conferences. The media, if it were comprised of journalists, would long ago have stopped going to WH press conferences and blocked the White House phone number on their fax machines.
He started out all wrong with "And I think...", but quickly got it right again when he continued "I don't think..."
No, he does NOT think; he parrots, and repeats, and distorts, and obfuscates, but above all, LIES.
BEEN MADE BY THE PRESS/CNN/ANYBODY THAT BUSH DID ANOTHER FLIP FLOP AND FINALLY FOUND A GUNG-HO GENERAL TO DO HIS BIDDING. THE "LIBERAL" PRESS IS NO MORE OF A REALITY THAT THE INFERENCE THAT GEORGE BUSH "LISTENS" TO HIS CRITICS.
Bush did give careful thought to invading Iraq. Unfortunately, he was still Governor of Texas and couldn't do anything about it at the time.
The public needs to be reminded that nothing anyone in this administration says should be considered credible. They'll keep saying these things so we have to keep pointing out how false their statements, and how disastrous their decisions, were in the past. I live in Utah and, boy howdy, people here still mostly believe everything Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and the whole Hee Haw gang have to say.
While I find it kind of hard to believe that the American public will ever forget how we got into Iraq we know for a fact that the Republicans will keep trying. I hope the MSM will avoid uncritically repeating GOP talking points. If they don't then the Big Lie might yet win.
Dan Bartlett announced on NPR that Tenet is lying, Bush gave careful thought to invading Iraq. Or maybe it was that Bush gave careful thought to his policy of lashing out wherever he saw a threat, so he didn't have to think about Iraq carefully, because he saw a threat... Hard to follow some of this.
