  • The difference

And the next question should be "Why was there a vaccuum to fill"?

This goes back to the whole Sadaam-AK connection, which is fiction. The difference between the two is religion - AK has, Sadaam did not.

  • Al Qaeda

Al Qaeda was not in Iraq when we invaded. Zarqawi was in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq, out of reach of Saddam. President Bush passed on three chances to kill Zarqawi before the invasion because Zarqawi's presence in Iraq was the only thing backing his claim that Iraq harbored terrorists. Zarqawi changed the name of his organization to "Al Qaeda in Iraq" in 2004.

  • Lies, lies, lies

The knowledge that the toppling of Saddam Hussien would stoke sectarian violence and civil war was established in 1991 during the 1st gulf war. To say that "we could never have forseen this" is complete garbage. Bush 1 even said so in his memoirs.

  • Simpler Times

“I was at the Council on Environmental Quality during this episode,” says Perino. Translation: “Don’t blame me. I wasn’t working here then.”

May 2003 "Mission Accomplished" was such a simpler time:

-Back when we’d begun the “search for hidden chemical and biological weapons and already [knew] of hundreds of sites that will be investigated.”

-Back when there was a “coalition” that would “stay until our work is done. Then we will leave, and we will leave behind a free Iraq.”

-Back when Iraq was “an ally of al Qaeda” and “a source of terrorist funding.”

    Ah, yes, such simpler times.

  • Asked and answered...

time after time after time. dems will keep refighting the past because they have no agenda for the future.

    Sad group.

  • asked...

and not answered, time and time again

  • One example

Further to what bignose stated, give one example of anything asked/answered concerning the exchange between Perino and the press or to anything kirkaracha or mizbinkley mentioned.

  • tiberius

If you'd bother to look, you'd see plenty of plans for the future. Dems and liberals fight about the past because that's when your ilk (conservatives) committed the crimes. I'd think that as a member of a group that considered itself about "law and order" (at least until you realized you were committing the bulk of the crimes) that you'd be in favor of "fighting the past." That's where the evidence is.

Of course, that's why you don't want to talk about it now, you're all guilty as can be.

Remember tiberius: Conservative = return to past (one largely imaginary anyway)(also see "regressive"), Liberal = look to future (also see "progressive")

  • He Heard the Call

"...then in the fall of 2006, the president heard the call of the American people who wanted to see a change in Iraq..." and did the opposite of what the people said they wanted done.

  • Newfangled battle tactics

"One of the things that we have learned over the years is how...[al-Qaeda] would set up this battle as, in their own words, the battle to win."

Yes, quite an unusual tactic, since most people fighting a war aren't fighting to win. Look at our President, he's not fighting to win. What a curious enemy we have, with their innovations in war. A battle to win, indeed...

  • With apologies to Keith Olbermann, and for Tim Grieve's benefit...

I wish to observe that today marks the fourth day since Senator Harry Reid declared "mission...accomplished."

Senator Reid's words: "The military mission has long since been accomplished."

  • Samarra Mosque

Why, oh why, do we have to keep hearing about how things were going great in Iraq before the Samarra Mosque bombing? Why does no reporter call them on this? Bush said the same thing during his "interview" with Charlie Rose a couple of days ago.

That bombing was just a marker on the downward spiral that has been Iraq. Things did not change direction then, just accelerated downward.

  • What is your point elephantman?

"military mission accomplished" and "mission accomplished" are too very different phrases.

Reid was right. We had done all we could do militarily- some would argue even more than we should have. Why do you think so many of the generals who served in Iraq said this surge would be counter-productive?

They had no plan other than to blow shit up. The military that Clinton fucked up marched right into Baghdad and overthrew the dictator. Then the circle jerk known as the Bush Administration said, "What the fuck do we do now, this is gonna take some thinkin'?"

  • Hamina Hamina Hamina

makes as much sense as Perino...it would be funny if so many people hadn't been killed needlessly. Anyone who voted for and continues to support these warmongers, blood is on their hands. They will never be able to wash it off, nor explain it away. May they rot in hell...

  • tiberius

You allege that Democrats can only fight about the past, because they have no agenda for the future. Your mention of the "agenda for the future" brings to mind the brilliant and carefully crafted "agenda for the future" of Iraq that the administration created before the invasion of Iraq. Wait, what? There wasn't one? Oh...

    pot, kettle, black, etc.

  • If by 'call"

You the voice of his Scottish terrier in his head, yeah.

  • Dana Perino: Hack, Flack, Shill and 3-Card-Monty Person

Oh, dear God, do I love watching Dana Perino twist, contort and practically turn herself inside-out trying NOT to answer a question truthfully.

The press corps knows she's hedging, we who watch know she's obfuscating and she, herself, knows that we all know. So, WHY, in the name of all that is Holy, do her charades continue?

Please, Dana: Just give me one, straight, non-fudged answer to one, straight, press-corps question; that's all I ask. Is that too much?

    Obviously, it is.

  • Language is Everything

What a curious choice of words - and episode - Ms. Perino called it, when describing the tawdry, staged extravaganza, the “Mission Accomplished” hoax starring the faux warrior-pilot and absentee National-Guard dilettante. Because so many people have since perished, this episode can’t be from a soap opera or old serial western – so what’s in a name anyway and what is an episode?

Breaks from reality in those afflicted with mental disorganization (characterized by faulty ego structures) are referred to as episodes. You Tell Me!!! Was the fictional purchase of nuclear materials in Africa cited in the State of the Union address just another episode in the life of the boy-king? Was the contrived fantasy linking Saddam and Al Quaida another? Was the warning of imminent danger during the summer of 2001 overlooked or disregarded during yet another episode?

Ms. Perino continues to demonstrate brand of loyalty to this President that often proves toxic. I hope it serves her well when President has occasion to publicly declare his complete confidence in her while she meanwhile ponders a likely bevy of subpoenas or spends her days with her attorney(s) trying to “unspin” the spin in the courtroom of history on matters foreign and domestic from possible war crimes to bungling illegal emails.

When this administration speaks, the intellectual mire bubbling up between the lies and the incompetence almost looks inviting! Perhaps we should feel better knowing that prior to her ascendancy from the Council on Environment Quality to the Queen of Spin, Ms. Perino kept herself sufficiently informed about fall of Baghdad – and episode (should we survive it) that will redirect civilization throughout this millennium. It is true indeed, that “Baghdad did fall very quickly”. On the other hand, the President’s statement characterizing the fall of Baghdad – “In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed” was a lie then, it’s a lie now no SPIN can render it truthful. Welcome to the White House!
