"nary a peep from the gun crowd"
I seriously tire of this argument that is often repeated stating how the "gun crowd" has not protested the actions of the Current Occupant.
First, the "gun crowd" is us. We are Democrats and we are Republicans and we are every other party. The 50% (or whatever statistic) that own firearms and the 50% that may vote Republican are not the same 50%, as the comments here should teach you.
Second, you're constructing a false argument. Without doing much research of my own, I'm willing to accept that the NRA has not spoken up about wiretapping, DoJ attorneys, etc. However, I'm also unable to locate any indications of (for instance) the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence speaking up either. My admittedly sarcastic question for you is, where were the Brady people? Are they pro-Bush? I'm taken aback that there has been "nary a peep from the anti-gun crowd" regarding these abuses of civil rights.
